SS Mesh wick question on ZAP

Trying Genesis Z Atty-U and building my first SS Mesh coil using a sheet of SS Mesh #500.

How big of a piece of the mesh do I need to cut for a ZAU? In inches?

Is it better to have a small hole like a straw or rolled tight as it can?

I'm going to wind the coil on a 3/32 drill bit then put it on the mesh as I found this method to be easiest for rebuilding RBAs.
