standard coil discussion/questions

Hi folks... BKB here again with more noob questions(i gotta learn somehow right?) ok. so i have i question or two as well as a comment... i have been the proud and for the most part happy owner of a ptII for a couple weeks now. i love the tank itself and have bought an areo base to add to the joy. but im having a problem with the coils i put in it. i used purchased coils (getting supplies for self builds within a week) and i try to stay within the 2.0-2.2 range on them as any lower and they burn my juice(cherry limeade) and give it a bad taste. but the coils by themselves always seem to spit at me. so i have found a solution(sorta) to fix that. i take apart a new coil, take the center wick out of that new coil and use it to replace the small flavor wick from the coil im trying to use. this works great (more flavor, larger clouds, less burned taste) but only for about an hour when it starts choking up a bit. not completely, but enough that i can tell... now, this is not a major issue, but i do like my pull to be very airy as i am starting the habit of straight to lung hits. am i doing something wrong?

ok,next question... could i safely drill out the holes on this areo base to add more airflow without damaging the base? (i know how to properly drill straight)

thanks in advance to any replies i get. i know yall are swamped with new threads and an ever growing number of new members daily.

If you have aero base try 1.8 ohm coil. I think the aero base has more resistance so it shouldnt taste as burnt. I have had to move on to lower ohm heads since the aero base and start great and then start spitting (flooded) . Also, I just sometimes take the bottom base off and blow through the top of the coil base and release the juice that is in the vent chambers and keeps things good for a bit. But every atomizer has some level of maintenance to keep it performing at best. For some reason my pt2 mini performs well and never floods.

ive tried 1.8 and 1.5 coils as well and those are what burns my juice... 2.2 is the only thing that will last an hour or two without scorching the flavor... and im getting good clouds from it as well... its just after about an hour of heavy use,it seems like the coil is getting stopped up somehow, and then, even with the 2.2 in it,it starts to burn and has that bad taste. my base nor battery ever gets hot with the 2.2 though,so im not sure what could be causing it. i thought i might have been overdoing the flavor wick by a bit so i went back in and removed a couple small strands and it seems to be a bit better but its still choking up a tad even with areo wide open. im gonna try drilling the holes out tomorrow and see what happens. if i mess it up,i can always buy another. its not like they are expensive. i will post a thread with pics afterward to show positive or negative results to show what happens for anyone curious about it.

I think you are moving in the wrong direction with the air flow here. When you are taking a draw off the protank the vacuum created is what draws the juice out of the tank to the wicks. As you open up the airflow on the aero base you are making this vacuum weaker and drawing less juice to the coil as you allow more air in. You should try a tighter airflow for a while and see how that wicks.

Buzz,

If you're willing to do a little fiddling with the coils of the PT, I'd suggest removing both the flavour wicks and the main wick, and replacing the main wick with cotton. Cotton does a much better job wicking juice (although you didn't state your VG/PG ratio, and it varies a bit), and you should have a much more hassle-free experience.

Do a search on ECF - there are tons of threads with more information.
