Starter REO Mini under $100?? a.k.a. Talk me out of buying an iStick 30 or an IPV Mini instead!

Subtank on an iStick? Well, that would be... less... than a reo. Less reliable, less durable, less fiddle free, less performance.

It's also less investment... initially. It will be followed by subsequent purchases as you chase the inevitable "upgrade" mods and toppers, all of it in the service of trying to get to the vaping nirvana that a reo could get you to today.

Trust me. I know. Many, many of us in here know. We've taken the red pill and been released from all that.

would you like to see vaping as it really is?

I'm so proud. Couldn't have said it better.

I've been through the ringer on mods some more then $300, never completely satisfied... Enter the Reo one month and nothing else has been touched... Save the $ you won't regret it. And if you don't like it they hold value. Imagine a land of dense flavored vapor, with equipment that will stand the test. I wish I would have saved the $1000 + on mods and atomizers from the get go. Many will also say the same as I have. I was a hard sceptic at first but fell into it reluctantly. Best device I have is my Reo.

in a nutshell, the difference is auto feed VS manual feed...

tanks rely on auto feeding, this can easily wind up feeding too much and flooding and or leaking, or feeding too little giving dry or even burnt hits... IF you can get an auto feed setup to work ideally for you then you're good, but many struggle with getting a perfect balance

a reo doesn't depend on any of that, you squonk and your wick is fed, not just fed but saturated then evacuated for the perfect saturation each and every time... simple, foolproof and much more consistent. this is why many will say that a BF mod will give you the best vape possible, it's not impossible to get a great tank setup but it is no where near as consistent and foolproof and easy or almost guaranteed as manually feeding your wick is in many cases...

I don't want to perpetually struggle with tanks for my ideal vape. Something easy, no-fuss and low maintenance is what I'm looking for. After reading all the responses from everyone, I'm gonna hold out for an REO Mini and get myself verified so I can stalk the Classifieds here to get one one way or another. (cue the song :p) My impression of "shinyitis" is that it's contagious, trendy and expensive. One day the "hot combo" is the istick 20 & Naut Mini; now it's the IPV Mini or iStick 30 & a Kanger Subtank that's In. I don't want to fork over my limited funds for something that may very well be "obsolete" in 6 months to a year and quite possibly not fit my max VG vaping style. Ignorance is expensive!!

ECF is awesome and I am very pleased to be able to have this critical resource in making informed vaping decisions. Thank you, kindly to everyone who replied!!

Exactly the way I felt. I was always chasing and upgrading but I could not get the flavor that I knew was out there somewhere. The wife and I started with V2, Provari's and misc. for a few months then I found REOville. My wife was still on her P2 and wanted to 'see' my REO first before she made any decisions. My exact first words were WOW! My wife tried it and almost immediately said she wanted one so that night we ordered her a mini.

A year later, I don't care about the new stuff out there, unless it's from Rob! The Provari's were sold a long time ago. We now have 8 REOs and I want more! It's fun to go into the General forum and read all the complaints about leaking this and the new and improved that. Come back to REOville and you know you're home. Excellent choice.

A very wise choice.... Surprised that it hasn't been said yet, but have no fear...we will have masterfully building coils in no time! One of the best coiling tools around is the artistic wire coiling gizmo...lots of us use it. I paid about $6 for mine (incl tax) plus about $7-8 in wire and you'll be set for a year. Any cotton will do for a wick from a lowly grocery store cotton ball (organic is better) to CVS rolled cotton to rayon to Koh Gen Do Japanese pads.

We,as a group, are happy to help someone succeed with their Reo...mini or grand.

Check out videos on you tube by sxmxdrifter. He just posted a new one to help you decide what style Reo to order, batteries, etc.etc.etc.

Looking forward to having you in Reoville!

It sure is!!!! :thumb:

You might wanna just go for a Reo Grand instead of the Reo Mini. Grands hold the 18650 batteries that put off more power. And the Grand is not much bigger than the Mini.

Oh, don't know if anyone has mentioned it (probably have), but Reo Grands; Woodvils, and Mini's... HOLD RESELL VALUE. IF by chance you're not happy with it (that's a joke. You will be!), list it in the Classifieds. You'll be stunned at how fast it sells. Folks usually get anywhere between 70-80% of their money back.

The BEST thing about a Reo Grand... is RIGHT HERE --- Reoville!
Save this link. Look at it. Notice how busy it is here. It's mad busy all the time.

You want an LP, probably - the "deck" where the atomizer goes is lower, which allows you to use any of the new atomizers which are mostly 22 mm in diameter. Without an LP, you have a more limited selection of atomizers - the smaller diameter ones. Your Carts or Ciscos will work fine on either kind...

On the site, a door is just a door - they're like $12?
Those are blemished doors FOR metal mods.

But there are some Blemished MODS, too - for like $120 instead of $146...

I have a question regarding the reosmods website--the "Doors/Blemished Metal Mods" specifically. Are they just alternative doors you can switch out on an existing complete mod or are these complete mods? Big price difference there between the "Doors" and the "Mods".

get verified for the ECF classifieds and you might find a nice used REO.

Also, if you are not *ready* to rebuild yet, you can use 306 or 510 atties (I use ciscos) over the counter to start off, or even a shorty cartomizers. Believe it or not, some people still use those. :)

That's exactly what I'm going to do! Waiting for my Cisco attys from Avid Vaper.:mail:
In the meantime, I'm going to use them with my Evod2 for dripping.

Listen to Papa, but be aware that I've called him Papa Pimp for good reason. :p

Have known about Reos since March '13, but procrastinated until Aug '14 before buying my first Reo. Didn't want some silly box that you had to "squonk". A bottom feeder? That's what I've always called trolls. Besides, I had over 2 dozen mostly high end mechs and regulated APV's, none that I had to squonk or siphon joose up to. Some of the very best tube mods made, some unicorns as well and they served me well. But they are all retired. That first Mini/RM2 bought off the classies hit home so solidly when I first tried it that I ordered a new Grand within about 4-5 hours of it's arrival here. Enter Papa Pimp, and well, I had 9 Reos in just over 2 months (have 10 now and have another 4-5 in my sights for this year). Not since I started vaping near 2 years ago has it been so easy, so enjoyable, so tasty. As for Rob, he is on my short list of the two very best vape gear builders I've had the pleasure of doing business with. All the folks here are really great people too, even the pimps. ;)
