I think ecigs are great, but i'm very careful about drawing to much attention. We can say what we like about the social animal called "human beings", but in alot of cases we jump first and ask questions later. If it looks like a cigarette it must be a cigarette and will step on you first and sort it out later. One thing I've noticed is how easy it is to through people off with just the addition of a blue LED in my black battery over the red LED in my white one's If the light is red it's a dirty look if it's blue it's a curious look and there is a big difference. I'll be phasing out my red LED for blue in the future. I've also gone as far as selecting juices that don't produce as much vapor for public use. I'd much rather change a persons perception to what's going on then to have the confrontation. People don't mind their own business anymore and i don't feel like going to jail if some fool decided to put his hands on me if he thought i was smoking in public.

You could get a battery mod that looks absolutely nothing like a cigarette, and really confuse them.

This one of the reasons I use my Janty Stick, SD and Prodigy. No question whatsoever that it is not a cigarette... SD & Prod have both been mistaken for a pipe though, go figure.

I really do not like my personal stuff on view in public. I find if you vape in a discrete manner no one even notices what you are doing! In public you can use your hand to cover the led, in over 7 months I have really not had a lot of notice, which is fine by me. My family and co-workers of course let me vape....remember that in public there is NO second hand smoke and virtually no smell so no one really cares what you are doing. In our office we have a firm anti-smoking enforcer, she has breathing problems etc. I vaped in front of her to ask if it was OK with her and she said it was. Remember to be courteous, we used to say "do you mind if I smoke?", now you can say "do you mind if I don't smoke?"

I bought some extra 510 batteries without an LED for stealth vaping at work and in other places. I even used it today in a meeting in the conference room with about 20 other folks, and no one suspected a thing. I thought I was busted for a moment when a wisp of vapor escaped me before an inhale, but I lucked out and nobody noticed. :D

I think the opposite is better.... I'm blatant about it.

I've had two people do the jump-down-your-throat silliness, and I disarmed them quickly. As they started ranting, I disassembled my 510 (again, blatantly), and the ranting stopped. Confusion followed, and in the moment of silence, I started explaining it.

"So theres no smoke?" "Its like a fog machine?" "So it doesn't smell!" "Then theres no tar?"

And a slew of other questions. I haven't had a single fully negative reaction (as in, a bad reaction after explaining). I think this is better. It lets you continue to do it, and it spreads the word. It gains the support not just of people who see it who might quit smoking and pick up a PV, but the anti-smoker group as well. They aren't all as bat-s crazy as Banzhaf.

This thought process is why ecigs will be banned. If those who use them are afraid to be seen with them, then they definitely will be banned and it makes sense they should be banned if the actual users are afraid to be seen with them. No disrespect intended.

And then there is the opposite end of the spectrum, where vapers flaunt it everywhere and anywhere, and irritate the same people we are trying to win over.

Moderation is key.

I don't vape openly at work, because I know it would be banned. So I stealth vape. I do vape openly in other areas.

Your approach seems to make sense. If you know it will not be allowed at your employment, then I agree you would not want to do that. I always ask in a resturant or sports bar and show the manager or server what it is and that it produces water vapor. Usually they have no problem. But I automatically go to a smoking area since I am not a smoker and am not breaking a law. But being afraid to be seen with an ecig will send the message that even the users know they are a bad thing.

Sorry but i agree with AngusATAT. Flaunt at your own risk. I'm not banned at work yet and I don't intend to be. The more you put it in peoples faces the greater the chance of people acting just like the FDA.
