Love SteelJan. Her videos are always well worth a watch, whether you're planning to build that mod/buy that product, or not. Her chainsaw Volt video was hysterical!

I am no troll.

I love the mod and I'll provably give it a go, but I am questioning the use of super-glue in a direct contact e-juice environment.

I kind of questioned that too, but I'm thinking that super glue may not be a huge deal. It's considered a irritate if inhaled, but cyanoacrylate was originally invented as a liquid bandage to field-dress open wounds so it must have a relatively low toxicity, at least in small quantities. I'm far from any kind of expert on the subject though.

It might be one of those "well, as long as you don't vape cinnamon e-juice" types of things.

I love the mod though. Always wanted to mess around with a rebuildable atomizer.

Guess that means Dusty and I are out from trying this

After seeing the video I did say "that's do simple why hasn't this been done before.

Simple and easy. Gotta love that SteelJan!

Thanks folks, it's good to be back again.

Yes, like I said in the video, on that genesis mod, you might want to use a different adhesive (no-lead solder or braising might be more ideal) or none at all and a different heat shrink as well like the clear heat shrink BlueprintDK uses in his video. If you compare his original genesis mod video with mine, you'll see I fiddled with this mod for awhile, trying to figure out how someone could make it without cutting and drilling the metal tubes, etc, as easy as I could figure it out. And when I tried it without the ceramic cup he adds, I found no difference, so took that out as well.

The genius of his mod is using two sewing needles and the bent metal center post to hold one of them crimped in. He uses a second piece of smalll metal center tube from an old clearomizer to hold the negative needle, whereas I figured out if I used a long enough needle, supported at the top and bottom, that was plenty enough support to hold it in place.

Anyhoo, howdy Canada!! One of these days, I want to get up there and see your great country. It looks so beautiful from images I've seen, documentaries & such.

P.S. Striker, again let me congratulate you on making your Elmo mod!!

Hey, SJ! Welcome to Canada! Or at least our little forum in it. :) I imagine this mod could be done with any sort of large clearo -- Vision Extreme or the like. I have a couple of those and am going to try this with one of them, just have to pick up some stainless steel needles. I'm thinking an alternative to a piece of seal and superglue might be some non-toxic silicone sealant, like aquarium silicone sealant from a pet store. That could either be used in place of superglue, or replace the entire superglue/half-a-cup-seal assembly. It does need to cure for at least half an hour before even attempting to do anything with it though.

And yes, Canada does have some pretty breathtaking scenery in many areas, but if you ever find yourself in southern Ontario let me know and we'll get a meet going. :)

I think that it would be very difficult to find anyone here that would not welcome you to Canada. :toast:

The CA glue thing is interesting.
Some formulations of CA is used in direct contact with open wounds as a bandage but in small quantities and not in contact with additional heat.
CA is often used under water as it has excellent water resistance properties.
I have found that CA is slow to cure if used in large quantities. It is often best to use a filler such as baking soda. Simply fill the void with baking soda and then drip CA in to bind it all. Actually, CA is normally very thin. The thick variety is actually mixed with silica to get that thick consistency.
Silicone also has a downside. Be careful what kind you use. Most of the stuff you can get easily has that acid, vinegar odour that takes a very, very long time dissipate.
How about using 2 part epoxy?

How about using 2 part epoxy?

Epoxy resin contains Bisphenol A (BPA), and though it is debated, it may mess with your endocrine system. However, BPA is not very soluble in liquid so, under the assumption that you probably still shouldn't use any caustic juices in contact with epoxy, it's probably okay in a system with non-caustic juices. It's used in the manufacture of polycarbonate plastics (you know, like many of the tanks we use) so we're already using it in that sort of system.

Woohoo! SteelJan's returned to the fold.

steeljan - YouTube

New video and everything. Great to see her back! I just hope the trolls have buggered off back to their holes.

I actually saw a video she did on the Darwin way back. And I never even knew that SHE was steeljan.

Subbed, great videos steeljan!! I myself am wanting to try this genesis type mod once canvape gets the 3ml firebirds in stock but was also wondering what brand clearomizer rubber piece was used in your video since I don't use them? Justwant to be sure I have all the parts at hand when I attempt this. Also wondering if anyone knows if clear rtv sealant would work in place of the silicone clearomizer bottom holder since I have that?? Thanks
