I want to steep recipes without the caps on. will it make a difference what the box is made from as far as affecting the flavor?

You'd better ask your question in DIY subforum. And what is a box? A bottle, or some enclosure for bottles?

A box to place the open bottles for a time for steeping purposes. I believe I need one more post to get out of new member forum. thank you for your reply Traveler.

You'll hear different input depending on who you're asking, but I don't recommend long-term steeping with the caps off. I've found that leaving the caps off tends to result in muted/lessened flavors. Leaving the caps off for a short period of time can get rid of the perfumey smell, but (for example) my 'Bacco B by Bombies sat with its cap off for about 2 months (accidental), and now it tastes like nothing. Like literally, there's hardly any flavor there, and previously it was a bold, punch-you-in-the-face kind of juice.

I don't think it would really matter what the box was made from as long as it was clean, dry and have no strong odour that could contaminate your liquid.

So maybe leave the cap off for 2 days out of a 2 week steep shaking every day. I was concerned with say the smell of a cedar or oak box imparting their smell into the juice
