Steeping refers to the process of a liquid's flavors changing with time after initial mixing. With commercially available juice that is made in larger batches, it has already had some time for that process to occur, while the "mix to order" juice makers' liquids may change significantly in the first week or two after mixing. The more complex the flavor, the more necessary steeping is to get the end result. A simple menthol may be fine immediately, while a caramel vanilla nutty tobacco mix like an RY4 may be nothing special initially but great a week later.

What that means for a new vaper is two things. First, ask the vendor about recommended steep times for the juices you are interested in, and second, don't give up on a juice immediately when you first get it. If you put away the flavors you don't like for a week or two, shake them occasionally and leave the cap off for a couple days, you will have made sure they are steeped and worth revisiting. Steeping can give you a pleasant surprise in many cases. Good luck!

Some flavors taste fine right after they are made. I never quite understood about the steeping part before until I made my own juice. At first I didn't like this one flavor I made alot and it was a light clear color. Within 4 days it turned to an orange color and tasted yummy! So now I know I have to wait about 4 days for that flavor before it's good :) Definitely wait about a week to see if the flavor/color changes on your juice.

I think of it like cooking.

Some things I make are amazing and at their peak immediately of the heat. Shrimp, steamed, broccoli, so many others.

Then there are things I cook that are good right off the heat but are always better the next day (or three days later!). Chili, soup, spaghetti sauce, candied jalapenos. These all need to "steep". Basically, the flavors need to meld and marry with one another before they will taste their best. Don't get me wrong, I still eat chili fresh out of the pot but I always try to make enough so some can go in the fridge to get better.

Great replies there everyone. Thanks for clearing this up. I'm pretty new to this vaping lark but am definitely in it for the long haul. I dont want to come accross as a bit thick so thanx for your patience and some nice analogies too. Makes me want some chilli................

This how I quick steep...everyone has their own process.
Place bottle in hot tap water for 45 mins. Shake and place in dark cupboard.
Next a.m. shake and open bottle to allow fresh air in. Shake recap and back in cupboard.
Next a.m. shake, open bottle and place back in cupboard with cap off.
Next a.m. shake and vape.
Air and heat will degrade juice long term but can also be used to speed up the steeping process.

Is there any way to speed the steeping process? I'm an impatient person ;)

Also if you have large bottles, shake them and transfer to smaller clean bottles. Smaller bottles need less steep time since there is less liquid. Say you have a 30ml bottle, shake it and transfer some into a 6 or 10ml bottle. Continue to steep the larger one. Hopefully by the time you get through several small bottles the larger ones will be ready to vape.

Try to stay ahead of the steeping game by reordering the juices that you try and like as soon as you find you like them. I always keep on hand 2 30ml bottles of my favorites. As soon as I tap into one bottle, I make sure another is on my next order.

Steeping for me is
Mix
Hot water bath
leave open for 24ish hours
close and shake
Into a cardboard box for at least a week

some flavours are great after a week, other such as tobacco flavours i just leave them until i can be bothered to try them.

Just a a side note if like me you test loads of new flavours use an excel spreadsheet to record all kinds of info including getting it to automatically tell you how long its been steeping for. That way you can make notes next to it and you dont have to get the calendar out to work it out.

In my vape station there are sections. In those sections, I have a post it note on the back wall of the section that tells me the date of when the juice bottles from an order are ready to vape. As I use up the oldest juices, I move them over to the right. That frees up space for my next order  When I get the new order in, I take off the caps and dripper tips, let them sit 48 hours (shaking frequently). As soon as I cap them, I write on a post-it-note the date of 3 weeks in the future. Place bottles in the Vape Station and stick the note to the back of the section. At a glance I can tell when they are ready.

If a 20ml bottle of juice lasts you 2wks does that count as being steeped for 2 weeks( towards the end of the juice)?
If that is the case then buying in bulk(20+mls) would save any steeping process would it not?
The juice i,m vaping just now has lasted me nearly 2 weeks and i cant tell the difference from when i 1st tried it. It is tobacco flavoured though.
