I try to steep all of my juices. Sometimes that's very hard, so usually what I'll do it buy say a 30ml bottle of juice and also a 120ml bottle or more. This way I'll use the smaller bottle
While the large amount steeps. I just put it in a dark place for a few weeks and everyday I give the bottle a good shake and leave it open for a few hours

Well, give 'em a try when you get them (or finish mixing them). To use strawberries and cream as an example; at first the strawberry flavor is most forward, the cream is there, but it's not smooth. After a couple of weeks, the juice starts to take on a darker hue, and the cream flavor becomes more present.

I usually try them right away, then you will know if steeping is actually doing anything. Try the juice once a week to see what effect time is having. I keep the bottles in a dark place, and shake them every few days or so. Really give them a good shake.

BTW, if the juice tastes horrible right off the bat, it is unlikely that letting it sit will help much...

Hi everybody, do you steep all the juice you get? If you don't steep all your juices, how u know when they need steeped? Lastly, how do u steep your juice?
    Ty

Yes, I do steep all my juice.
Remove the top and the dripper and allow to air for 24 hours, then re-cap and put it away for a week or so.
Kind of depends on what kind of juice it is ... tobacco's generally require a longer steep.

Some folks will use warm water bath's to hurry things along but I just order my favorite's ahead of time :)

    And welcome to ECF!

Steeping helps bring out flavors in most juices and I have never found a juice that is worse off after a week on the shelf. Eventually, you will settle on one or a handful of favorites and learn to order ahead. I speed steep (hot water bath) a lot of my juices even if I am going to give them a week or two. I think it really helps to blend flavors especially in a batch I just mixed.

Welcome and stay off those stinkies!

Wow, I've heard of ppl steeping but didn't realize it's with almost every juice! Very hard as I'm just starting out & wanna try EVERY juice! Do you all tend to stay away from local vape shops that mix there own on site, & you steep them? Or order from bigger online vendors? I'm waiting to order a new set up. I should get some more juices ASAP! Ty

I definitely try to avoid back room mixed juices and only stick to reputable ones that I have seen reviews for on YouTube or Istagram/Facebook, not to mention many of those places are what the FDA is trying to shut down so don't get too accustomed to a local shops home brew as it will probably not be around for very long!

If I had a local shop I would buy there as often as possible (if I didn't DIY). I don't have a local shop so I learned to mix my own so I could experiment but if I did, it is a great way to try different flavors. Most shops have a tasting bar especially if they are mixing their own. Mixing is not rocket science and as long as they seem to be clean and organized I would not hesitate for a moment to buy local. Go down there and taste a bunch of juices to see what you might like and then throw a couple of bucks at the local economy. You will also get to check out some other gear in the shop and you could build a report with a knowledgeable vapor.

No one would suggest going to an non-reputable shop but because they are local or smaller does not make them in any way less than the bigger companies. People liking it on facebook doesn't make it any safer or tastier. Quite frankly, it is your kind of attitude that is giving the FDA fuel to try to shut down our local shops. You should seriously consider supporting your local shop and local economy.

I support my local vape shops here in Central FL all the time and many local Southern Cali vape shops also, I just prefer not to buy any of their home brew juices. I stick to the Liquids that are at least distributed on some sort of nationwide level like Gemini, Cosmic Fog, Five Pawns, Space Jam, Halo, Virgin, Nicquid, Suicide Bunnies, Cuttwood and many that I receive from my Zamplebox subscription plus a whole lot more. I just prefer that E-Liquid manufacturing is their primary business, not "Mixing Up a Batch in Between Customers" type of places.

Just because it's a local company doesn't mean they are doing anything for the vaping community either. I've been to a few local shops and some are awesome, I try to shop at them often. A couple though, have down right scary, unclean conditions and some of their practices have led me to believe they are trying to take advantage of newbies and/or have no clue what they are doing. I'm not sure every new vaper can weed out the good shops from the bad. It's ignorance that adds to the FDA fuel not this posters opinions on buying ejuice from a local shop. I think he was just trying to be helpful.

When you get your eliquid, smell it. If it smells good to you, put some in your tank or carto and taste it. If it smells and tastes good to you, vape it. If it does not smell or taste good to you, steep it for a while. All I do to steep is put the eliquid in a dark place - I used to use an old purse with zippered compartments, but have now "graduated" to a small, cheap toolbox from Walmart. With 3 cats and a dog, I just do not have a good, safe place to leave uncapped bottles. Check it every few days or so. Some eliquids are good to go right out of the mailbox, some only need a few days, and others need a few weeks before they taste right to us. A lot depends on your individual preference.

Remember to shake your eliquid every time you fill or top off your tank or carto.

I used to buy juice from my B&M almost exclusively, but it was always very (read too much) sweet tasting. Trying to nail down good juice you really like is one of the most difficult aspects of vaping. This was one of the major reasons I started to DIY. I can control how my juice tastes, and it is exponentially cheaper and better than anything I can buy, even over the internet. I refuse to pay $5+ for 10ml of juice that I can make for about $.50, no matter how much it helps the local economy.

Always vape your juice when you get it. If you like it, keep vaping it. If you believe it needs that something something, let it steep for a week, and try it again. What I said in my first post however, bears repeating; I have never had steeping make a bad juice better.

I DIY menthol liquid which I've found is fine to vape straight away, had no noticeable improvement with steeping. It may give more flavor, but I've found menthol is menthol, regardless of how long it's sat around.

RY4 (Tobacco) flavor I make for the mother in law, this literally *needs* a week of steeping (along with airing and shaking regularly during that week). If she vapes it right after I've made a batch she complains of a weak taste. I now stock them ready for the text asking for more, she's never complained since I've steeped it.

I think it depends on the complexity of the flavor to some degree, but I'm not an expert. I'd steep Tobacco flavors and multiple flavors for a week at least (that's just me). Simple single flavors you can probably get away with vaping as is. It depends on your tastes, too.

Premixed store bought, if it's been made up a while ago should be vapable from the off, before I DIY'd I'd remove the lid and let it air overnight in a dark cupboard in the kitchen - never had any need to steep. A good shake after an overnight "airing" was generally enough for me.
    YMMV
