I have a dilemma. I am currently using an eGo and to be quite honest, am starting to dislike it. No matter what I try, nothing tastes good. I've used LR atty's, cartomizers, atty & cartridges, ce2 cartomizers... blah. I've ordered countless juices from FSUSA, PureSmoker, V4L, VaporBomb, and Halo. Before I order any other juices, I was wondering if stepping up to the voltage to 5v would help at all.

I currently am using Smilin' Special 24mg from V4L as my all day vape... and it tastes like pine needles mixed with chalk? I hate it... but it's the most tolerable flavor out of the 60 or so flavors that I've ordered. Don't get me wrong... others have tasted good... for the first 10 minutes or so. Then they just get gross. I've even let some juices steep to see if that would help and it didn't. Maybe my tongue just isn't compatible for this lol  but idk.

I was looking at a GLV2, but also am thinking maybe start with a cheap 5v passthrough? What do you guys think?

A good 5 volt PV or variable volt is definitely an improvement over 3.7 volt vaping. But the improvement is basically in the warmth (throat hit) and consistency of the vaping experience. If your issue is more "taste" oriented, it may not make that much of a difference.

The GLV2 is one of the best 5 volt PV's. But you would probably be better served to get a good variable volt PV such as the Darwin because some eliquids and definitely different attys/cartos, vape better at different power levels. Most find the sweet spot to be between 4.5 and 5 volts.

If money is a concern, a better option than a pass-through would be a good 5 volt or variable volt box mod from: Box Mods .

If you do get a pass through, you will also have to get a 5 volt/2amp USB to AC wall outlet adapter. You definitely don't want to plug it into your computer. It can easily damage the computer, plus you will not be getting true 5 volt performance anyway.

Note: you may want to try a new atty on your current PV, also to see if that makes a difference.

Best bet would be to get a vv like a buzz. No matter what your prefrence it can do it, you won't be stuck at 5v. You might even like more than 5v or maybe even 4.5. Either way you will have thrown money out the window on something you don't care for. Its also a reasonable price for a first venture into higher voltages. Simulating 5v with an ego and lr atties just isn't the same as using 5v in my opinion.

I had a similar experience, and so did my sis (we both used/use a ego) and it turned out the gross taste was coming from the carts. I switched to an Ali'i about a month ago and LOVE it. The TH and flavor is way better. For my sis, we put a clearomizer on her ego and this fixed the problem for her. In both cases getting rid of the 510 carts fixed the issue. My suggestion for you is to try direct dripping on your PV and see if the flavor and vapor are better for you.

You can do this by dripping a couple drops on your atty, then place an empty cart on top for use as a drip tip (be sure and remove the filling!!!). Let us know if this helps at all. Also, just for consistency, I would clean your atty before trying the DD method. Just my .02

To clarify,

I've used 2.4 to 3.2 ohm CE2's (Royal Smokers and GotVapes), direct dripped on genuine Joye atty's, use cartos from IkenVape [2.0 and 2.5 ohm], used GenJoye cartos, LR Boge cartos -- tried all sorts of juices with various PG/VG mixes with nicotine strengths between 16mg up to 30mg - and no good.

I've spent so much since the end of January when I started - but it's not about how much I've spent. I could care less about the initial investment, unless this doesn't work out.

I also was looking into an Infinity but I really have no idea. GLV just looks so nice and I love the form factor of it... but I can't see myself spending that much on a PV if I can't get the flavors working in my favor.

A true pt (no inline battery) plus two amp ps (either wall wart or cig lighter adapter) will run about $25.

A notcigs buzz or infinity runs 110 when you some spare batteries.

Provari and darwin run 200+, fitted out.

I just bought an infinity, like it a lot, but was pretty sure I would since I have used pass throughs for months, at work and in my car.

I still expect to keep my pts, since the light weight and compact size can simply be more convenient at times.

I would go the pt route, if you have a desk job or are in a car driving a lot, give it a couple weeks, them decide on either an hv or vv.

Just remember to get an extension cord for the pass through...the glv does look good and vapes good too but it doesn't have the options like a vv for a first jump its a win win...but that's just my opinion. Its tough and expensive finding what works for YOU, its not like you can test drive it first unless your lucky enough to know someone who has all of em.

Looking at your post I see you've only been vaping for 37 days. Don't forget that your tastebuds can still be having an effect on what you are tasting too. Took mine quite a while before they actually got over all the smoking I did for over 30 years. I now taste things much differently than I did 6 months ago when I started vaping.

You've got a lot of options. You've yet to try 3.7 VT vaping or anything higher since your Ego is under 3.7 VT. I personally think a vv mod is the way to go to be able to give any voltage one wishes. Yes, they do seem expensive to start with but not really when you consider what you are getting. Different juices taste best at different voltage and a vv mod allows you to dial into whatever that voltage might be.

My first experience with 5 VT was with a 5 VT direct passthough and I love it and still use it when I'm at my computer. For the cost of the PT and wall unit it was more than worth the abt $25.00 I spent.

@timato: I agree... I don't know anyone in CT who vapes with the exception of my girlfriend and a couple people at work that are light vapers. I would kill to get my hands on some different mods to test rather than shell out all this cash.

@grandmato5: Yes, only 37 days. I figured my tastebuds would be fine by now... everything else tastes wonderful (foods, etc) and analogs taste GROSS... and I also have a KR808 that I will use from time to time (started on the SmokeTip) and I believe that runs at 3.7v. Now if only the GLV was a vv mod... then I wouldn't mind experimenting with it.

Loft,

I bought the 5volt Passthrough and wall adapter from MadVapes and love it! REALLY love it! Now, when I grab my Riva/Ego to go to work, I feel mad because the passthrough is so much more satisfying. A 2 second drag on my PT gives me more vapor and heat than a 6 second drag on my Ecig. It *feels* like a real cig to me the way it feels in my mouth and the way it hits my throat. I love that I can puff it the same length of time that I used to puff on an analog to get a hit.

It was only $26 for the PT and 2 amp AC adapter. It's lasted for 2 months and I use it and abuse it every day for 8+ hours. I reinforced both ends of the cord with electrical tape- like the reviewers suggested on their site. I plan on buying another because if it died, I would be very out of sorts:)
MadVapes 5 Volt 510 Manual USB Passthrough

For juice, have you gotten any juices from KickBassVapor or VaporsEtc? Both are highly regarded and I love both of them. VaporsEtc has a cheap sampler pack of 5 flavors for $6.95 and you can't beat that- cheapest samples in the world:). Their Rye4 and Vanilla are excellent. At KBV, I love their Maple Frosted Roll, Warm Sugar Cookie, Snickerdoodle, Caramel Cookie. There's some people that never had a juice they loved until they tried KickBassVapor's jooses!
Vapors Etc. - Vapor Sampler (code vapezone gets you 10% off too)

Good luck Loft! Perservere and you will find a Ecig and flavor you love! It took me 3 months to try a 5 volt PT and 4 months till I found KBV and VaporsEtc and 5 months till I found the Infinity mod that I love!

The Internet
FWIW, here is a video that might change a lot of people's minds about what the GLV does. YouTube - GLV2 atomizer testing under load

It's a long video. To sum it up, this guy tests various attys and cartos on a 5v GLV. Here are the output results in volts and watts:

CISCO 1.5 306 1.22 OHM - 3.90V = 12.4 WATTS
CISCO 1.5 510 1.52 OHM - 4.24V = 11.8 WATTS
CISCO 2.0 510 1.96 OHM - 4.74V = 11.4 WATTS
BOGE/LX CARTO 2.87 OHM - 5.47V = 10.4 WATTS
SLB LR 901 1.87 OHM - 4.67V = 11.6 WATTS
??? LR 801 1.45 OHM - 4.17V = 11.99 WATTS
V4L COOLCART 3.31 OHM - 5.67V = 9.71 WATTS
V4L CARTO 2.29 OHM - 5.0V = 10.9 WATTS
MEGA CARTO 2.71 OHM - 5.27V = 10.25 WATTS

Then why don't you get a good 5 volt or variable volt PV and you would have that same good "inhaled feel" all the time instead of just when you are "tied" to your PT?

Thanks for the words of wisdom. I actually ordered a 5v PT yesterday, and am also waiting for my orders from Backwoods Brew & KBV. I'm not going to lie, at this point I am skeptical... but we will see what happens. I had a couple analogs today to hold me over just because I couldn't take the flavors that I had with me at the time... :( :( :( mind you, the analogs tasted even worse but familiar.

@FreakyStylie: That's interesting... and has only piqued my interest in it even more but I am going to have to put that on hold until I can get the whole taste thing settled.

Ohh I did! But somehow I managed to break it within the first 2 days of using it LOL! It's being repaired as we speak:) I liked the variable volt option a lot!

Make sure you get a 5 volt/2 amp USB to AC wall outlet adapter for your PT. Don't plug it into your computer USB!!
