Hello everyone.

Today I ran out of my 5-pack of Protank atomizers so I re-used one for the first time.

I started by popping the top off and removing the loose wick on top, which I rinsed carefully in warm water.

Then I gently rinsed the coil and fixed wick under warm water as well. I shook the water out as best I could and dry-burned the coil in 2-3 second pulses until it glowed red all the way through.

Ran a hair dryer over the loose wick to dry that.

Put the loose wick back on top of the coil and dropped a few drips of e-juice on top of it.

Put everything together and....burnt taste :(

I repeated the whole process and this time let it dry over night as well.

Still, I start to get a burnt taste after the 5th or 6th hit. It's not a heavy burnt taste, but it has a charred overtone which is definitely noticeable.

Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Do I need to let them dry longer before I use them? I'm confus

The top wick is the flavor wick and it needs to be touching the lower wick and that's how the main wick gets juice feed. You can vape that coil without the flavor wick to see if that's the problem. If you have some 2mm rope wick you can cut a short piece and insert it instead. The flavor wick that comes in Kanger heads is two lengths of 1mm wicking side by side. It usually unravels a bit and you lose some of it when you remove it and replace it. I keep a pack of 2mm silica around for when that happens.

There could also be some burnt juice underneath the coil that washing didn't remove. You also should drip a drop of juice on the wick after washing before you put the flavor wick back in.

Pop the chimney off and push the top wick down in the center and prime it just to see if that helps.

Ok update. I took a hair dryer to the actual atomizer heads and got em nice and hot, didn't bother to dry burn this time. It seems to have fixed the problem. I also dripped e-juice onto the coil and then put the flavor wick on, instead of priming it after i put the flavor wicks in. So either there was residual water that the hair dryer took off, or it was the different way I primed it. Either way I'm happy, keepin my fingers crossed.
