Hi all, I'm new here. First post on a great forum.

I've been vaping for about two weeks now with no smokes and I don't want one at all.

My question is, since I switched from smoking to vaping with no time in between will I still get all the benefits of quitting smoking (lungs cleaning out, better taste and smell, more stamina etc) or will vaping hinder, or slow that?

Thanks,

Grant

In my personal experience I did just like you did and went right from smoking to vaping. I experienced the hacking up nasty stuff (Leftovers from smoking) and my sense of smell returned, things tasted better almost with no delay for me at least. I am not out of breath right away and at my last check up Dr. says my lungs sound great! So I would say vape on my friend :toast:

I found when I first quit smoking and started vaping that I had more trouble with shortness of breath for a little while. However, after a few weeks that went away completely and I definitely vape way more now than I did when I started so I say go for it. Your body needs time to recover from all the crap you pumped into it :D

You do get pretty much all the same benefits of quitting smoking, because guess what, you've quit smoking. :D

For myself, although my lungs *cleared* out, my asthma has gotten worse; now I need maintenance drugs for it, though before, as a smoker, all I needed was a rescue inhaler. It seemed dumb to me, to go back to smoking to make my asthma better??? So I kept vaping, went to the doc, hollered about quitting smoking, accepted hi-fives all round, and got a prescription for Advair. Now I can vape to my heart's content. :thumb:

I do have to stick with high (80%-85%) PG, but that's just me; apparently my lungs don't like VG. When my doctor asked if I had any plans to quit vaping at any point, I just laughed at him, and said "I smoked for 39 of my 53 yrs... what do YOU think?" And he laughed too, and said, right, silly question. He and I both know that to quit vaping would almost certainly mean I'd go back to smoking. Now that I'm finally free of coffin nails, I really don't want to go backwards.

Once, ten years ago, I quit smoking cold turkey for 6 months. Why I started again is a story for another thread, but when I quit through vaping I felt the benefits just as quickly and thoroughly as I did cold turkey...without the cold turkey downside. As is always the case, though, YMMV.

Like Andria, however, too much VG makes me feel...icky in my chest (yes, that's a technical medical term...hehe). 50% is my absolute max, while 70/30 PG/VG is ideal for me...and nicer on my tanks.

Welcome .I quit smoking 6 months ago in august around xmas I did pick up a nasty chest infection .my doctor said some ex smokers are more prone to infections initially anyway. I was using some crap ejuice I bought at a local store up till then which I don't think helped a lot .I also think to high a pg content doesn't agree with me ,so have just switched to 20 % PG 80 % VG juice I get from My Baker which is very nice ,will see how that works for me. Id recommend seeing your doctor regular for a while anyway, better safe than sorry eh. It also seems that vapors experience all the same things as people who quit cigarettes without vaping just mostly minus the cravings.

I have smoked for many (too many) years and never noticed any bad consequences. I just knew it was bad for my overall health and so I have switched to vaping. No difference in sense of smell for me - with one exception: I do not smell of smoke anymore. Sense of taste is worse because of vaping (it is somewhat tough on taste buds), but I can live with this knowing my chances of not getting cancer have improved.

Thanks you all for the responses.

I guess here's the nub; I've been pretty athletic all my life (52yr) but just stopped bothering about 5 years ago because my lungs felt shot. Any data on lung function between vapers and just clean air when under stress? Of course clean air is the best and smokes are the worst but curious how much vaping hinders lung function.

to ecf Grundy . Nice to meet you and so glad that you are here. Congrats on the vaping. I think that is awesome. It's a nice feeling not to want a cigarette. I began noticing the sense of smell coming back as soon as I stopped smoking. I also started feeling better like so many others. I think it is just an individual thing. Whereas vaping has not been proven not to have some side effects, I still feel it is a healthier alternative and one that I enjoy very much. Look forward to reading more about you. Have fun and make yourself at home.

I switched from smoking to vaping over the course of four days. Immediately I began to feel better. I'd wager any unpleasant effects you're experiencing are the bad yuck of no-longer-smoking. I'm not much of an athlete, but I can breathe more deeply AND it sounds silly, but I can sing better (always loved to sing); I can hit notes that went away over the years and hold notes longer. Yay for me and my Steely Dan CDS. Oh, and my sense of smell has come back.
Only other issue is for you to find your VG/PG balance.

Buried in books
Can't remember who it was but when I was first researching vaping and its effects I ran across a youtube video where the guy (a vaping proponent) compared his xrays from when he was smoking and then a year or so after. I'm no xray tech, but even I could see the improvement.

Some seem to be sensitive to PG while others do better with VG. I seem to have settled at 50/50 since I also noticed that at 70VG - 30PG I was getting that funky feeling in my lungs. Haven't tried any higher PG juices yet...

However, at 55 and facing shortness of breath even going up one flight of stairs, after 9 months smoke-free I no longer have that issue. I can even run around chasing kids and dogs without running out of breath.

It will take a bit of time and experimentation to find the kit/juices/formulations you prefer, but isn't that clean feeling fantastic?

I have been totally loving being able to caterwaul along with Robert Plant and Ann Wilson -- both of whom can reach notes that for me disappeared a good 30 yrs ago -- I thought I was doomed to "whiskey tenor"-verging-on-Suzanne-Pleshette for the rest of my life. :D

What's odd is that although my high notes have come back, I haven't lost the low ones I could reach before! :D
