Basic ego's are just fine for starting out, although it is universally recommended that you have at least one other battery so that you can continue to vape while the other is charging. With regard to your tank, I have no experience with the Kanger Unitank, but I started out with Kanger MT3S which, at least, use the same heads (coils). They worked fine for me (in fact, I'm using an MT3S right now). You did not mention how long you've been using the device, but please be aware that the coils last for 1-3 weeks before needing to be replaced (cleaning/rinsing them each time you refill your tank can help prolong their life). When I started vaping (and still smoking) I found that the vaping wasn't as satisfying after a week or so and that I was smoking more. Changing the coils made the difference.
With regard to liquid, part of the satisfaction comes from the varying level of throat-hit you are seeking. Throat-hit is the sensation you get at the back of your throat when you inhale (kind of what go most of us to cough when we first started smoking). Each person is different in their preference in this regard. Generally, more PG and more nicotine increase the throat hit. If you want less, try choosing liquids that are more VG-based; conversely, if you want more, increase the PG ratio. Another important aspect is flavor. Many people try tobacco flavors in an attempt to recreate the smoking experience. This works for some, but many others say that using other flavors like fruit or sweets helped them to ween off of cigarettes faster because the taste contrast is increased.
The process. Inhaling is another personal preference that comes from how you used to smoke. In general, most people either did a straight-to-lung inhale (lung-hit) while others would suck smoke into their mouth and then inhale from there (mouth-hit). Vaping by straight lung hit tends to be a little more difficult because the draw on your PV is different than that of a cigarette. With vaping, you want to take longer pulls into your mouth (sometimes using several pulls) before inhaling. (To complicate matters, technically inhaling the vapor is not necessary, as the nicotine in vapor is absorbed through your mucus membranes more effectively than through your lungs...) Nose exhales help with the flavor, too.
When you vape is also different than smoking, due to the absorption rate. When I first started vaping, I would follow my normal smoking routine: go outside every hour or so for about five minutes and then come back inside for an hour, etc. This works with cigarettes because the nicotine will hit your system in about 8 seconds versus the approximately 30 seconds from vapor. Also, you will absorb less nicotine from a single inhalation of vapor than from a single inhalation of smoke. Thus, vaping for five minutes at a time will satisfy your body much less than smoking for five minutes. So maybe a change in your routine might work, as well. For me, I found that what worked best was to vape a lower nicotine level (12 mg, for me) more often (sometimes even chain-vaping) and then switching to a higher amount (18 mg) for short periods of time. I only offer this as an example--your mileage may vary. The point is to get your body used to accepting vapor in place of the smoke and sometimes that means breaking the habits and practices that went along with smoking.
I hope this helps!
