Hey!

Man, I had not performed any tests, but your message inspired me to check my nic stash. So, I ran some tests just for you this afternoon and here is what I have:

All my batches are mixed at ~50mg/ml with PG

December 2011 nicotine: test today was nicotine content 49.01mg/ml. Slight (like super diluted urine, so not much) yellow tinge (unchanged since last check). Nic has been in freezer the entire time, but I do open it to put into smaller bottles for use. It has been opened maybe 4-5 times during storage. Odor unchanged.

June 2012 nicotine: test today was 49.86mg/ml. Faintest hint of yellow if I look really closely next to a white piece of paper. NIc has been unopened in the freezer for the duration. Odor unchanged.

December 2012 nicotine: test today was 49.98mg/ml. No yellow at all to maybe a super faint slight hint. Also has remained unopened since put into freezer. Odor unchanged.

May 2013 nicotine:test today was 49.86mg/ml. No yellow at all. Unopened since put in freezer. Odor unchanged.

August 2013 nicotine: test today was 49.93 mg/ml. This one does have a slight tan tone, but it did when I received it as well. My Freedom Smokes said they no longer "bleach" their nic liquid so the tan was normal. Odor unchanged.

All of these samples are from My Freedom Smokes. It has stored in the freezer super well, huh! I have 9 750mL bottles in the freezer, and contemplating purchasing another liter of nic. I *think* I have enough for nearly 10 years right now, but you can never be too prepared, right?! :)

If you ever want me to do a test, just holler. I would be happy to do one! Also send me the link to your blog. I would love to read it!

That's awesome!

Thanks for doing that. It's very encouraging.

I hope you don't mind if I quote this message in a few threads.
It's great news that will be good for DIYers' peace of mind.

I don't plan on putting "plumber's anything" on my otherwise supposedly clean e-juice. I don't even like having to transfer it to other bottles. And I certainly won't cut it before storage.

Yes, I'm aware it's anti-bacterial and such. Still....

Since it won't freeze, IDK how much headroom I'd need in the bottle if any.

You need some headroom for thermal expansion.

So my question is about the caps, there are two different types talked about between this tread and also the blog that is linked here. Does it have to be the PTFE or are the Phenolic Poly Coned lined okay to use?

I use poly cone caps on my freezered nic bottles FWIW

I filled mine to the top to avoid any air.
I haven't run into any thermal expansion on opening any yet.
I filled them and know that they might splorch out a ml or two on opening.
It hasn't happened yet but I'm ready for it every time I open one.

I nearly topped some ambient 30ml bottles with cold liquid and capped; about pea size air bubble. Put in freezer. Removed from freezer and bottle was dry. As sealed bottle warmed it got very messy w/ juice. I figured thermal expansion forced liquid past the sealed poly cap.

For freezer storage glass is glass. Unless light can get in when the door is closed it shouldn't matter what color you store it in. Make sure it has a good seal and the liquid isn't going to have direct contact with metal on the cap and you should be fine. I break my larger bottles into smaller ones and fill so there is little air, put all those into a box and stuff in the back of the freezer. That way I only remove and open a small bottle at a time.

Hey all.

OK, so maybe the sky IS really starting to fall. If you happened to read some of my posts in other threads you know that I'm recently starting to stock up on nic-base. This was even before the recent ?rumor? about the FDA internet ban.

I haven't worried about it much until lately. Something about BT getting into the expensive carto refill game everywhere just set my spidey sense off. And now this FDA thing (predicted for years, but not confirmed/rumored until now.) Anyway...

I'm short on glass bottles. The juice I've ordered is in plastic. I order 120 ml at a time of 100 mg. Blue plastic bottles from Stormy's... this last time. I do have a 250 ml brown glass bottle from another vendor (M.F.S) that I mix in...I pour the 100 mg into it and top it off with an equal amount of PG so I "store" my nic base of 50 mg strength in a 250 ml bottle.

That's fine for one-at-a-time mixing like I've been doing over the years. But now I'm looking at long term storage options for larger quantities. I have one 120 ml 100 mg blue bottle in the freezer wrapped in a freezer bag. IDK if it will hold up well...

Searching other threads shows that people like the brown glass bottles and freezing the nic for long term storage.

Do you purchase all your nic in brown glass? Do you buy empty brown glass and x-fer it? Maybe I shouldn't worry about it?

I have a year's supply right now. But if the "deeming regulation" actually hits, despite our efforts, I would like more nic base in storage. I know many have researched this. I found this post/thread to be very helpful:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...an-you-store-100mg-nicotine.html#post10200134

I'm sooooo torqued off that I may have to spend $$$$$$$$ on expensive glass bottles because the FDA has it's head up it's posterior.

So my current assumptions are:
1) I need to use a vendor that provides brown glass bottles -or-
2) buy empty brown glass bottles and x-fer what I have -or-
3) risk it.

OTOH some people in that same thread and other threads have said they have 3 year old juice and it's fine (but didn't say what bottle).

Do I risk it and just store the blue plastic bottle in a freezer bag wrapped in a paper bag in the freezer?

For long term storage of my excess e-liquid, I started using my empty 15 oz. A-1 Steak Sauce bottles. I think that's close to 450ml. They're dark brown glass. Wash them real good and peel the labels off. Look nice! Lol.

I also peeled the name labels and mg stickers off my small e-liquid bottles and transferred them to the top of the white cap on the A-1 bottles. I've got one for my Hangsen USA MIX, and another for my Hangsen RY6.
