Hi guys, I have bought several ego and riva batteries. My question is should I fully charge all of the batteries that are not in use? It could be a few years before I need to use them. This might seem like a silly question but I know there are certain types of batteries that are made that must be charged every month or so, or they will eventually go dead. Does it matter? Should I give em a charge every other month or........what? Thanks and Merry Christmas

Hi. According to this article on Battery University (which I'd suggest reading, if only the bullet point guidelines at the end), to prolong lithium ion batteries they should be stored in a cool temperature (ideally close to zero degrees celsius, but NOT in the freezer), and partially discharged (40% recommended). The worst case scenario is stored fully charged in high temperatures. On a standard lithium ion cell, 40% charge corresponds to 3.75v measured at the battery terminal. You might have to guess at this with an eGo, because the battery has a regulated output, that could lower the voltage that will be measured.

I don't know of any requirement to give maintenance charges to lithium ion batteries, and they are known to have low self discharge, although it may be an idea to periodically check the voltage of them, and if necessary, give a short charge to top it up to 40%/3.75v . They should not be stored fully discharged, as that could result in over discharge and then it will not be possible to charge them.

Hope this helps and Merry Xmas :)
