cafetière ????

I'm from the USA so that term is unfamiliar to me. Is it a reference to something like this

https://www.amazon.com/1M5002-Comme...qid=1485533014&sr=8-8&keywords=coffee+filters

If so that will do fine.

Many also use 1 micron filter also.

https://www.amazon.com/Whatman-1001...5533263&sr=8-3&keywords=1+micron+filter+paper

A french coffee press also works good.

https://www.amazon.com/Simple-Chef-...85533368&sr=8-12&keywords=french+coffee+press

Cool. Well the guage was too large or the press wasn't snug enough.
So I've taken the small filter.
Doesn't say the micron but it's going super slow so I think it's working.

It's too clear but it's been 8 weeks and I just wanted to taste it.
I think I put too much glycerin in. 350-400 ml with four pods? More pods next time

Yes VG is very thick so it may take a day or more to filter. As I said heating it to thin it helps.

I actually took a plastic funnel and placed the filter in that and sat it into a plastic cup. Then put it in the microwave and would give it 3 - 4 second pulses to keep it warm during the filtering. It filtered through in about 5 minutes.

By the way that filter your using should work fine.

Perfect. Thanks. You were right about the heat I had to keep it hot as well otherwise it would not drip.

Quick couple questions though.
I want to put fresh mint in the mix with some bottles. How would you do that. Any idea?

Also, I want to put coffee in with vanilla. Any ideas on that.

Thanks for the heat tip :thumb:

That does seem like too much, but it also depends on how strong you want it.When i did mine,i cut and split 6 pods and put them in a 120ml bottle, and filled with pg.Mine are still soaking in there from 2 years ago.Whenever i want some,i just use a syringe and pull the liquid from the top of the bottle, since all the solid stuff has settled at the bottom. The longer you let the beans soak, the more flavor you will get from them.Mine is almost black in color.

Right. I've taken it out, strained it and started making some ejuice.
Are you supposed to use 100% of the concentrate.
I put 10% originally, couldn't taste it at all. Then 20, nothing
Then I thought forget this, put 80% in , bit of nic and filled up with a tiny bit of vg. Actually tastes good but a bit weak.
How much should I be able to taste before I put it in to steep?

any reason you aren't trying the extraction in PG? and if i try this again I will chop my vanilla beans a bit more or only use the scrapings from inside the pod. I want to try a better quality bean like this: PNG Planifolia Vanilla Beans | Beanilla

Yes. I wanted all vg because I just prefer it and ethical reasons... bla bla bla

But I tried kind ejuice 100% vg and the flavour of some of their juices are on point.
I really see no need for pg. wicking seems fine so far...
I don't really need the throat hit when using 12mg of nic. Maybe 13/14 if I want more.

Yeah, I might chop it more. Most importantly loads more pods.

I think the type of vanilla is important too. Madagascar beans are maybe the most readily available. But not the best option. The one linked above has a high vanillan content which is the extract we are after.

Maybe vg with 2-5% distilled water could aid flavor absorption into the vg. I normally add no extra vg to mixes but do extracts in pg as it is faster. But you have your reasons. I think I would do two batches. One to sample along the way and one to steep 6 months.

I made the same mistake with my first NET, too much PG and after it was all said and done I realized my mistake. I would grind, chop or whatever then just barely cover them with your base and add if necessary but you can't take away if it too much. I have to blend the NET as 50/50 with VG and still can barely taste the tobac, lesson learnt for my next try.
I also stuffed a cotton plug into a 60ml syringe and ran it through a couple times after the coffee filter filtering, the plug works pretty good if you don't apply too much force.

The process for extracting coffee or mint would be the same. Cover just to the top of the material being extracted and wait. Having never done coffee or mint I would guess a month for both in VG. As mentioned you may want to draw up a little in a syringe and filter then taste before actually straining and filtering the entire extraction batch just to make sure it's ready at the end of the extraction period.

There is excellent information in this forum regarding extraction. It pertains to tobacco but the principle is the same for any material.

Nah (jaw drops to the floor)

6 months :eek::eek::eek:

Carpe diem - 6 months is a long way away

If you want to speed this process up try heat extraction at 140F in a crock pot. Most crock pots set to low are from 135 - 150F which is an acceptable range for this process. My guess would be 24 hours should produce decent results.

Place your vanilla pods in a jar (that mason jar you used is perfect for this) and fill to just above the pods with VG and cover with an air tight lid. Place the jar in the crock pot and fill the crock pot with water until the jar just starts to float or is at least above the VG line and monitor the water level through the exaction process to make sure the water level stays constant. Make sure to keep the cover on the crock pot to reduce evaporation of the water.

When extraction is complete strain and filter as you did before. Remember to strain and filter while the extract is still hot it, goes much faster. If the solution cools use the microwave method as you did before.

24 hours is just an estimate your going to want to monitor the color of the solution and as it darkens pull up some solution in a syringe and taste it. Stop extraction process when it reaches an acceptable level of flavor.

Wow, thank you. 24 hours? That's great. 60 Celsius will be fine for any glass jar. Won't it?
Another great tip.
So everything can be done in just over a day.
Same job with the tobacco?
