Hey all,
I'm not a modder myself, and I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this but I have a question. My dad has been a machinist for 30 years, and recently (last few years) got some equipment and started doing work at home on the side. I had an idea today that maybe he could start making ecig parts, since most of what he does is round, threaded, cylinder-washer-cap type stuff in steel, brass and aluminum. Unfortunately he's not real internet savvy at the moment, but I thought I might bring the possibility up to him and discuss it some time.

My question is this- what kind of stuff would home modders (and "bigger" modders like old goat, maximum vapor, bogger boxes, etc...) like to be able to get from a home machinist, either in big or small batches?
So far I've come up with ; drip wells, drip tips, drip shields, tank tops 'n' bottoms, connectors and tubes.

What do you think? am I crazy? are there a bunch of guys doing this already?

poland, and the brassy lands of google
Most of these things are made by many and commercially, but 510 connectors that have a SS base threaded for mounting with a brass nut (easy to solder) and a brass center pin would likely be welcomed by the community. This idea has come about before, but I don't think it has ever come to fruition. The brass ones currently available wear out in the threads and render mods unusable. Just my :2c:.

Here ya go, a few tweaks and a conversion from metric and you'll be good to go.

What's that, a scubagen? /\

Would love an all stainless 510 connector for my bottom feeder. I figured out a good solution for making the connections to it without having to solder anything. I've got a couple of concepts I've been working on for accessories and whatnot, just cant justify paying so much for prototypes when I could just save up a little and buy my own machinery/tooling.

LOL. That's Michal Jansto's WillPro. He's pretty much the father of the modern Genesis.

He was also the first to espouse wrapping the SS wick, with everything from paper, cotton and various braids, which was met with a certain amount of scorn at the time.

The last one that I saw(WillPro) had a unique airflow design and I think it was a hybrid. I've been to the site many times but could never figure out how to get one.......

Well, instead of plexiglass - it's not like folks can't acquire the larger/est syringes. The issue is the top, middle and bottom "plates". I suspect something like delrin turned to allow for O-rings and at least marked (if not pilot drilled) at the centers could be sold..

Problem is that while a lot of us lack a lathe and mill, the clever chinese make this stuff on the cheap - and your father should be making something from his efforts.

Any of the battery connectors, 510 remains common; any adapters, 510/eGo is common.. All from steel. Back to cost and income. <shrug> Losing battle.

That is why you have to make something that the Chinese won't want to put forth the effort and time to replicate, at least on the cheap. When was the last time you saw a Knock-Off Penelope? Or anything with an SS wick? That is because it is too complex to put forth the effort and time to replicate - and quality must be there from the get go. Quality to the point where the people with the money are willing to spend it, the money, on the item. The Chinese can stick to there Visions, T2s and VIVI NOVA Knock-Offs because they are just plain simple and straight forward to make fast. That brings the price point down.

I am guessing you have not seen the Chinese DID then? :(
