Strange Prodigy problem the other day

So I've had my Prodigy for 5 days now and I have to say it is the best vaping experience I've ever had. It is quite simply amazing. I could go on and on, but I wanted to talk about a problem that occured with it yesterday.

So I get to work after vaping it on the way there, and after I clocked in I busted out the menthol juice to add a few more drops (was starting to get the burnt taste). Like an idiot, I squeezed the bottle a little too hard and out comes 5 or 6 drops in a split second. Anyway, I tried to vape it immediately to try and avoid flooding the atty. No vapor. Crap. Flooded it. So, I blew the thing out and let it drain for a few minutes until I wasn't getting any more juice coming out. I even got a paper towel and cleaned the adapter and its threads (which did get some liquid on it). Before adding more drops, I pushed to button to see if it was working. No-go. Too dry? Added 2-3 drops. Still no go. Blew the thing out and left it upside down. By the way, I was using batteries that I had left on the charger overnight so I knew they were fully charged. I even tried my other set which had only been charging for an hour or so and they didnt work either. However, with both sets of batteries I could unscrew the atomizer and put my tongue on the contact point and press the button and DEFINITELY feel the voltage. So , I ruled out the possibility of it being a power supply issue. However, when I went home for my lunch break and tried two other atomizers (the extra I got from Puresmoker and a BE112), neither of them worked. I was baffled. The thing was obviously putting out power but none of my atomizers were heating up. Frustrated, I took out the batteries and put them on the charger and left it alone for about 5 hours. After that time had passed, I threw in the batteries and screwed in the spare atomizer I had previously tried and it worked! What the hell?

I have no idea what may have caused this, anyone have any ideas? In any case, my Prodigy has been working like a charm ever since.

I've had a similar issue Necro.

For me it's just everytime I put the batteries in... I'll have to take them out and put them back in over and over again and eventually it will just work. Not sure what it is or where the contact isn't going but yea... everytime it worries me a little bit but they finally heat up and start going.

Anyway... not the same problem but just something I've had.

The little spring on the bottom doesn't allways make a good contact with the batteries as the bottom of the batteries have a lot of plastic on them. When this happens I just hit the side of the PV1 on my hand to reposition the batteries. If that doesn't work, pull the bottom cap off, make sure the spring is making contact with the metal part of the battery and screw it back on. Obviously you did this when you changed the batteries.

Brian

Edit. Also, if you have an early version with the white oxidation all over everything you can get a bad connection from the top cap too. Just unscrew it and screw it back on to restore the electrical conection. Had to do this myself a few minutes ago because the other methods didn't work.

for the many of us that wont ever be using 18650's in our PV since the 5v sweet spot was decided on.. someone needs to start keeping there eye out for something that could be used as a spacer that could be slipped into the prodigy and take up that slack space and keep that batts perfectly centered....some sort of plastic tubing or ??????? it would be cool to find something that had measurements very close to what was needed without modification and could be purchase by the foot ...rofl I always kinda wondered why a spacer of some sort wasnt developed in the case of dual battery use anyhow .....when mine shows up next week Ill take some measurements and see what I might come across

I've tried a 2nd & 3rd atty and, yes, the tongue test was done on the adapter while attached. So I know that power is coming through the adapter. It worked for a bit with the new atty & then just stopped. And it really didn't seem like I'd overheated the new atty, soooooo I don't know. I guess I could have killed it. But then the 3rd atty would have had to be a dud.

It doesn't seem like the center post is too high as it looks like the "after" picture in the guide in the other thread. I don't know if it's too low, but I don't see how it would have shifted lower as it's pretty well in place.

The only thing left to do, I guess, is wait until I get home & try my DSE801/RN4072 attys on the RN4072 batteries & try my other spare attys on the Prodigy.

This is worse than forgetting my spare batteries & charger at home. Wah, wah, wah, wahhhhhhh.

I guess I'll let you know in a couple of hours when I get home if it's just the attys or if it's something else.

Thanks

Got home, got a new atty, screwed it on and.... works great.

I guess I had 2 defective atomizers. I know that I'd checked them both before carrying them out with me, so that sucks. The quality control on atomizers really is frustrating. I'd say that somewhere between 1/5 & 1/4 are either duds or last less than a day. And that's not only w/ the Prodigy, I find the same is true on RN4072 batteries.

Well, that'll learn me. I guess I need to carry 5 attys at all times.

Thanks for your help, though.

+1 to what Brian stated ...

The batteries have plastic that reaches quite far on the bottom of the batteries. Because the tube is bigger than the batteries (so they also fit 18650's) you may have to adjust and take note on the placement of the spring on the batteries ...

Wow, just found this. So the Prodigy V1 will take 18650's? And does it take one or two (sorry for stupid question, haven't received my batteries or Prodigy yet), and does it need a spacer or anything or can I just pop the 18650's in? Is it higher voltage? What would the difference between using the 123a's and the 18650's be? Thanks!

It only takes one 18650. It's a high capacity 3.7v battery. The ones I have are 3000mAh. It wouldn't work well with the regulated switch, the voltage would drop too low. If you have the unregulated (3.7/6.0) volt switch, it gives like 3 days on a battery, and that's for a heavy vapor like myself. But you aren't getting 5v goodness.

I don't know what it is about you Walrus, but you're always on the ball and you always seem to be there and answer my questions. For me, you da' man! ;) Thanks! Maybe I should just book mark you and shoot my questions on to you :D

I think it's because I never sleep. Actually, I'd typically be in bed right now. I'm usually up all night, and sleep from about 6am until around 1pm. I'm screwing myself up today because I have a doctor's appointment at 8:45 tomorrow morning... so I'm attempting to stay up all day today so I can sleep tonight.

[edit] Now that I'm thinking about it, it would make more sense to just stay up a few hours later tomorrow than to stay up all day today... but I'm committed now.

Well I'm glad you're here and I sincerely hope your Dr.'s appointment goes well and it's nothing serious.

I guess 5v or higher is just to high for these atties. they need to come out with some atties that can take 6v or higher. that could help solve a lot problems just right there alone.

I don't think 5v is too high. You just can't hit it like you do at 3.7v. Instead of 5-6 second draws, you have to take like 2-3 second draws, and let the atty cool down. You also have to be aware that the atty will dry out faster and keep it wet.

Well.... it is, but it's not new. I have degenerative disc disease. I've already had surgeries for L4-S1, and C4-C7. Now they are looking a the T1 area. I'm having a EMG done to find out exactly what nerve roots are the problem now.

Sorry for the thread hi-jack. Back to your regularly scheduled programming!
