Stripping wrapped cartos???

went and ordered alot of black boge's before I got a tank, now need to strip them all. Can't find the old threads on stripping w/ the search, any old vets know the best ways to strip the wrappers off of these??

Put the wrapped cartos in the freezer for a few hours. That hardens the glue/adhesive to a point were it is not sticky. Usually peels right off leaving little or no glue residue. You have to peel them quickly after removing from the freezer because the heat from your fingers will warm them back to a sticky state. Works great for me.

I tried this awhile back but didn't have any luck. Maybe I didn't leave them in there long enough. I'll try it again and see what happens. Madvapes sells a 2.5 smoketech that I want to use in my tanks but they only sell the black stickered ones.

Yeah, they need to sit in the freezer for at least an hour. They warm back up quickly, so you need to be speedy when peeling them off. I usually just leave them in the freezer overnight.

And once you've done the freezer trick and peeled them, use some acetone (not fingernail polish remover, but real acetone from a big box store) on a Q-tip to remove any remaining contact adhesive.

You can also use lighter fluid, but if you slip and get lighter fluid on the poly-fill, it will taste pretty bad. Acetone evaporates completely and quickly.

When I strip my cartos, I just use an eraser to rub the left over adhesive off. Learned this method years ago when I worked as a shoe repairmen.

I didn't have any acetone when I tried it. Goof-off worked. Now I just buy stainless cartos cuz peeling them is a PITA any way you do it.

Yea but the cartos I want to use ...I cant find in ss. Boge just doesn't absorb well in a tank for me. I use them but I have to constantly take dry sucks to get my juice to wick. I just burnt one with three holes! My juice is mostly pg.

I just peel the wrapper of the best I can and then I wipe any adhesive off with a little PGA on a towel ,,,works great oh I have also used rubbing alcohol it just takes a little longer than the PGA ...
