it's all about triggers. obviously drinking is a big one. you seem to have the discipline to stay strong so far. so forget "the pull" from the stinkies. commit to the path. no backsliding. no excuses. every day gets easier.
What I've done, and have done in the past when quitting stinkies, was to only have one and just vape/patch/whatever so that I could disassociate smoking with drinking. Did that for about a week, and next week, I'd have a couple days where I'd have 2 beers and just vape/whatever and after that I seemed to be golden. Now when I mess up and get sloppy drunk, well, I just vape.
I'm not sure this is a sign of progress, but, I went to a cookout Saturday and vaped the whole time, never smoked a real one. Tonight, I went to the local watering hole and had a few beers and vaped the whole time. I think this is a sign that I am about to make the transition. It won't be easy but it is possible!
I had the best luck with a tank type e-cig that produces a lot of vapor. My wife and I have been cigarette free for over a year now and have no cravings when I drink. Currently I like the Mini Nova and I got that from gotvapes.com.
I have the very same problem when I am drinking coffee or having a long phone conversation. Both of those activities were when I always smoked the most and I knew it would be tough. I usually vape 18mg in daytime and 6mg at night but I keep bottles of 24mg around just for those times and it works for me. I even have one bottle of a pretty rough tasting tobacco just to really kick in the realism. It sounds kind of silly but it has kept me from smoking so don't judge.
I think most of have triggers and we just have to recognize and accept what they are and find ways to work with them. You can pull this off just keep trying different levels, flavors and, as some others have mentioned, vapor production. Whatever works for you is all that matters.
Hey guys, just an update from the other night. I made it through without lighting one up. I did have a single drag off my wife's cig and it tasted like a freakin ashtray! It also felt like it coated my mouth with a nasty oil or something. Yep, I think I got this now. Thanks for all the great suggestions! I need to find a juice that works for me. I've tried about eight different flavors, and I have several more bottles on the way. The bourbon suggestion is great. I have rum tobacco from MBV and I really like it. Thanks again all!
I was 18 mg for months and found 24 mg was the only strength that hit the spot while drinking. I now use 24 mg exclusively, and I vape much less than I used to.
