Tucson, it's a dry heat
Been at this for two weeks now. I am starting to have power struggles with my EVODs (which I use exclusively and used to adore.) I have 5 that I have been rotating. On all of them, I have been getting dry hits or little to no vapor and then sometimes a burning taste. I replaced the head on my oldest one, but the others should not need a new head yet. I am using them on 2 eGo-C upgrades - not sure of ohms, wattage, etc.? My juice has been mostly 50/50 blend.

According to what I have been reading here, there are several suggestions about EVODs:

1.) Something about a wire that can be removed, jiggled or somehow adjusted. I don't see a wire or coil anywhere on this unit - does anyone have a diagram of these things?

2.) Washing out with vodka -how long do I let them soak?

3.) Where is there a wick on these things?

4.) Am I supposed to dry-burn these - if so, HOW?

5.) One of them (a new one) worked for about 3 days and now, it won't burn at all - no sizzle, no pop, no vapor. I have tried taking it apart, cleaning it out, drying it, rescrewing it - nothing. Is it a bum EOVD?

6.) I ordered replacement heads and was asked if I wanted 1.8 or 2.2 - I got 2.2 - not sure why, but did I screw up for my eGo-C upgrade batteries??

I don't want to switch to other clearos with wicks or carts or anything right now - it's just too overwhelming. I was perfectly happy with these EVODs till the problems started :(

Thanks in advance for your advice - I really appreciate everyone's help here.

Ahhh Evod maintenance! They are great little delivery devices when functioning properly. Other then a cartotank i use these as well. I have a few Protanks, but they are more hassle. This is how i clean my evod heads to get em burning back the way they should. It's fairly easy to do and pretty hassle free. I'm not a super sanatizing type guy when it comes it to this stuff, pretty much rinse n dry burn for me.

1) unscrew bottom from tank, rinse both with warm water. Be careful not to loose the little silicone cap thats on the post!
2) Take all your goodies on a paper towel to a desk or table, remove the silicone cap set aside.
3) Gently pull the post off the bottom carefully. Rock it back and forth slowly while applying pressure it will pop off.
4) Once the post is out you will see a couple of wicks that will be all gooey and gunked up! On top will be the flavor wick. Remove gently and set aside on said paper towel.
5) Screw the base onto battery of your choice, and pulse the fire button until your heads start to glow. You will notice it starting to smoke, eventually you will see it glow red!
Continue to do this a few times until you can clearly see the glowing wire. The head is now clean.
6) Now you need to replace your flavor wick, Sometimes there are two, depending on your juice you can replace both or just one. What i do is replace the flavor wicks with 2 small pieces of bamboo thread thats 1mm i believe. no pics sorry.
7) Put your post back on the head, ensure post is screwed down tight. Fill it up and vape! A couple of dry puffs will fill the burn wick up with some tasty juice!

Happy vaping!

The evods still have wicks...they are the little white things sticking out of both ends of the replacement heads. You also don't have to rebuild it, you can just take the wick out and stick a new wick inside the coils, which is real easy. That way you don't have to be recoiling wires or anything, just taking a wick out and putting one in. Unless the coil pops, then that head is pretty much dead unless you build a new coil, which sounds like what happened to your one head that doesn't work anymore, I would guess that the coil itself it dead, so it is never going to work again unless a new coil gets in there. I'll try to take some pictures/video to show you if you want me to.

OK, upon really close inspection (43 y.o. eyes here), I can see two white things sticking out of the head. So, if I replace that, it's saving me money vs. just replacing the head? I mean, 5 heads cost me as much as a pack of cigs and I only need to replace them every 2-3 weeks (according to the shop.) Is it worth the effort (for a technically-incapable old chick like me??)

2.) Washing out with vodka -how long do I let them soak?

I soak for a couple of hours until all i smell is vodka. Let soak overnight in distilled water. (I no longer soak for long periods with vodka bc someone said it will degrade the plastic).

3.) Where is there a wick on these things?

When you unscrew it or get a new head you see two tiny white thingies poking out on either side. That's the wick.

4.) Am I supposed to dry-burn these - if so, HOW?

I don't like to dry burn unless i can see it happening. I cant see the heating element and I'm not a rebuilder so i don't remove anything. What i have done once I'm done woth soaking and letting it dry overnight is screw it on the battery (i have ego c upgrades as well) without screwing on the body. Only the part that screws onto the battery and of course your head (the part with the wick). Press the button for 3 or four secs for 3 or four times. Unscrew. Add juice. Vape :)

5.) One of them (a new one) worked for about 3 days and now, it won't burn at all - no sizzle, no pop, no vapor. I have tried taking it apart, cleaning it out, drying it, rescrewing it - nothing. Is it a bum EOVD?

Throw the head away (the part with the wick). It's a goner.

6.) I ordered replacement heads and was asked if I wanted 1.8 or 2.2 - I got 2.2 -not sure why, but did I screw up for my eGo-C upgrade batteries??

1.8 is what i use on my ego c upgrade. For me the LR (lower resistance) 1.8 ohms gives a warmer more flavorful burn. If you don't like the performance of the 2.2 you can up your voltage on your ego c upgrade.
This is how to up the voltage.
-5 clicks to turn your battery off.
-press and hold until you see the light change colors ( it's an orange color).
-5 clicks to turn back on.
You are now on a higher voltage (don't know the number off the top of my head.. maybe 4 something.)
To lower your voltage repeat the steps above until the light is back to white again.
Hope thus helps :)

OMG - this is one tidbit of info that I have been wondering and hadn't asked yet. No one seems to mention the eGo C Upgrades around here. THANK YOU!!

Yup you could just replace that...you have to check the coil though, if it is reallllly dark and...well crappy looking to be honest, you will really have to clean it off first. I never dry burned before, but I guess you could just take the wick itself out, then put the head on a battery and dry burn just the coil to get rid of the extra juice/whatever on it. Rinse it under water/blow it off, just try to clean it lol...then you could put a new wick in. If the coil pops though then you can't do anything about that, you need a new head then. Or recoil it. I replace my evods silica wicks with cotton, I think it tastes much better and just works better. I just take the silica out of a brand new head and put a cotton wick in, use the stock coil and everything. If you want to try it here is where I get mine, it's real good stuff: Square Braided 100 Cotton Wick 6 0 4 0 2 0 1 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 | eBay

I think #1/0(2mm) will fit the best in evod heads. I originally got #2(2.5mm), and it is to big to just replace the wick in the evod, I need to make a new coil to wrap around it to make it fit. I have #1/0 on order though, I'll have it tuesday so I am going to see if it fits the stock coils then. It's real cheap to, 10 yards of #1/0 is 5.25, free shipping, thats about 30 feet...last you a while. Can also buy 20 yards for a little bit more.

Np.. just paying it forward .. i read about it and was so excited lol..
A rule of thumb about ohms and voltage.. (of which i know very little) but.. the higher the ohm (your 2.2) the higher the voltage it can handle. The lower the ohm.. the lower the voltage.

I just want to say, don't throw out your spent heads. When I first started I I couldn't imagine rebuilding anything. In the past couple months I've rebuilt viva nova's, I have an RBA(Igo l that I love). If you have a bit of space throw those the heads that won't fire anymore in a drawer, just in case you decide to start rebuilding.

Or when you have a pile pass them on to someone that DOES rebuild for spare parts

You are NOT old...43 is the new 23! I'm not only saying that because I just turned 43; age is a state of mind, not a number. Keep on rockin' those EVODs.
Ah thanks toolguy! I think its the 11-13 year olds I work with daily that tell me I'm oooolllllldddd!

I DO feel younger now that I've quit smoking, and due to my newfound vaping lost 5 lbs and stopped drinking diet soda - woo hoo! That can only help when I re-join the dating world again (just broke off an 8 year relationship) :2cool:

Hey there. I've just had a stroke a little over a month ago (I've lost about 50% of my fine motor skills, and my balance is really bad) and I can dry burn heads. I'm 47 and My eyes aren't that great either. It's really not hard. There is a video about dry burning and I think I have it. I'll look and post it for you. Also, if you're getting nothing out of your Evod at all then the head is done. Replace it and save the burnt one to practice rebuilding or give it to someone that likes to rebuild. As soon as I regain control of my right arm I plan to rebuild. It looks like fun and it's cheaper than buying new heads.

Oh yeah, you're not old. :)

Whelp! Learned something there. I thought one of my egos just had a different color light. LOL!
