Hello! I'm a Canadian girl who's stuck in smoker's limbo.

I know I need to quit smoking--have been doing it for way too long. I've been following the forum for a while, and got lots of great information on what's out there from this. I found these e-Health ciggies at the closest surplus store to me, and picked up some extra cartridges to go with them. With these things, I've been able to cut back for a 25-pk a day down to between 7 and 10 cigarettes per day. Unfortunately, I still have cravings for the "stinkies", and am really hating myself for it.

I have my eye on a eGo-Stardust starter pack, some small bottles of juice to get set. I don't know if this is going to do the trick, but I have to keep trying. I've tried most everything else Big Pharma has to offer, with no success.

I'm presently looking for good Canadian retailers that supply nicotine juices to help me along. Any suggestions?

Hi there, You may be vaping on 0 nicotine e-cigs.. In Canada it's illegal to sell prefilled cartomizers that contain nicotine in a retail store, at least that's what I found watching some CBC news videos regarding e-cigarettes. Does it say if they contain nicotine? and if they don't that would be one big reason why you're craving stinkies.

I used to use those Health e-cigs and I found them crap! Regardless on nicotine strength I still craved a cigarette, and ended up binning mine after about 2 weeks. I carried on smoking for another 2 years and recently bought an eGo e-cig. Now I have moved to a more advances mod and hasn't smoked, or even craved a single cigarette in over 2 months. It definitely worked for me and I hope it will for you!

While I can't speak for what or where the great white north has to offer.... (since I'm as far from that climate as possible while being on the same continent :D), I can offer the advice of each stinkie you don't smoke is a win... changing how you look at it will go to help you quit much easier. Don't look at how many you smoked, but instead look at how many you DIDN'T smoke.

If its a cigalike style of battery (I am assuming it is since you referred to the use of cartridges), many of those don't have the oooomph that you might be seeking.

Ego batts are a great first choice to start with, particularly the variable voltage ones, as that's the next logical step from a standard ego style battery, they let you change the vape more to your liking, but are by no means neccesary for a "good" vaping experience. I can't speak for the stardust style clearos as I'd never used one, hopefully someone else here can' chime in on those.

As for liquids, don't expect to find one that "perfectly mimics" your current stinkie, though there are some good substitutes out there. Perhaps the best vendor I can offer would be Mt. Baker Vapor for the quality of the juice with a great price point.

Hope my little bit of info is helpful, and most of all, remember, don't kick yourself for having a stinkie, just think of all the ones you AREN'T smoking.

I can't help you with where to get juice but as far as having troubles avoiding analogs here is my .02

I had similar troubles when I 1st started vaping about 3 years ago. I started on the cheapo starter kits (the ones that look like a cigarette) and was getting no joy and constantly wanted a real smoke.

Then I found ECF and started reading and reading and reading. Along with the reading I had to ask myself why I still wanted a smoke. For me at least it was the throat hit that I like from analogs. The cheapo e cigs along with improper juice strength appeared to me my problem.

I purchased an eGo and upped the nicotine lever in my juice. Once I found the right strength of nicotine and started getting the throat hit I desired, I almost instantly quit feeling the need for an analog.

Answer why you smoke 1st. Throat hit? Nicotine? Having something in your hand? Smell and taste? Once you nail your reason for smoking and adjust your e cig device and juice you should not have the need for a cigarette again..

I have long since moved on to high end devices but an eGo is a very nice device to get your feet wet..

My .02 and good luck with quitting. It's been over 3 years for me now and I feel like a million bucks! :)

Yah, like AshJD94 said. I tried "cig-alikes" (e-cigs that look like a real cigarette) and wasn't able to quit, they sucked. But once I found the eGo type e-cigs I was able to quit completely. There are so many vendors and combinations of hardware it's hard to say "go buy this" and give you a link to something... You're looking at $50-60 to get an eGo battery kit, either a pre-arranged one or by picking the pieces yourself along with some e-juice.

Here is a suggestion. I'm not saying buy it from this site, shop around. but this is the kind of starter e-cig kit that actually helps you get off stinkies.

eGo-T 650mAh Kit with CE5 Clearomizers (Charger,Bottle,Case)

(You might also what to browse the juice section while you're there as I've found their service to be prompt and their product to be good quality. It's not Chinese stuff, it's made in Canada.)

Thanks a bunch, all of you! I feel encouraged to carry on with my quest.

I will certainly check out the Canada Forums, and if I can figure out how to pm someone, I will certainly ask for a Canadian supplier list.
You need a certain number of posts to post outside the New Members subforum.
And you need a certain number of posts to be able to send PMs.

I have been addicted to stinkies since I was born as my mom smoked two packs a day and my gran 4. Yeah, they quit when I was 18 and I went right out and bought stinkies. NOTHING has helped kill my craving till turning to vape. I LOVE IT!!!! Seriously, love it! I tried one stinky and it sucked so bad I just threw it out. You can do it!!!

Don't hate! Vaporate! :p

As others have said, don't dwell on the ones you do smoke but think about the ones you haven't. It's best to think of it as a process rather than an overnight change. Just keep trying new devices and flavours until you find what works for you.

Think of it like getting in shape. You're not going to run a marathon until you can jog a mile. Just take it slow and think that each cigarette you do smoke is one closer to the last cigarette you'll ever smoke.

Congrats on wanting to quit, you've taken the first step! Like everyone has already said, try and stay as positive as possible. It really does help in the transition. After a few days of just vaping I tried smoking, took 2 drags, and put it out. It tasted like garbage! Once you're able to get to that point you're basically home free. Keep active on the forum, there are so many great people that are so helpful and friendly. It's like having one big dysfunctional family that has your back :p

Chipperthorn,

I'm the last one of my family and really close friends to still be smoking. I was able to quit cold turkey once before because I was laid up in hospital bed after a motorcycle accident long enough to get through the REALLY intense part. I have commitments and responsibilities so it would be hard to replicate that experience by going away some where for several days. Eventually I might, but for the time being I'm going to switch to vaping.

I'm right there with ya. Been using V2s and I have a ego coming in the mail. Do pretty good until the batteries I have run out. I haven't gone a full day yet either because I don't have the equipment to make it through. But it's good practice.... moving in the right direction. Once I have a set up enough to do that, if I slip then I'm not going to smoke my normal camels. I'll pick an additive free brand. I believe the physical addiction to cigarettes (major brands) is more than just nicotine. I'm highly suspicious some of the other crap in there keeps us coming back for more. Part of the reason you may still crave them even while vaping.

Once I'm firmly away from cigarettes for a while, I'll start dropping the nicotine levels. My intent is to quit vaping eventually too. I believe it will be easier to quit vaping than it will be to quit smoking. The way I see it vaping is a 100% improvement on the heath aspect. That's the single most important issue. If you end up vaping the rest of your life, that's still a HUGE victory. So many people here have done it and they are a great inspiration and very supportive. They all seem to agree that once you find a set up to give you the hit and nicotine you want with a flavor you like that it's a lot easier.

I realized one thing that's helping me already. YMMV. At first I quit going outside to smoke both at home and at work because I no longer had to. Which is nice, but I'm finding I do a lot better if I stick to my normal routine and just don't think about what I am or what I'm not puffing on. Unexpected, but I find that taking my breaks with the smokers at work like I always have (except I'm puffing on vapor) actually helps. Same with going out on my deck at home, rolling down the window in the care, etc. Distraction is helpful to me. So is positive "self talk" and reinforcement from others. Not sure what your situation is. This might not help you or even be relevant. We're all different.

If this road doesn't work for you, don't give up. One way or another you CAN quit.

Sorry for the long post.

Unfortunately I can not help you with where to get stuff in Canada, but I can offer one bit of advise ...... never ever feel bad or "yell" at yourself for smoking a cigarette. I would say I have successfully made the switch, but still smoked one last weekend while having an all around bad day. When I first started vaping I had a really hard time putting the cigs down entirely and I would feel guilty and mad at myself. I realized the more I let it bother me that I had smoked the more I smoked. So instead I set up a reward system for myself, if I made it through my morning coffee without a cigarette I would treat myself .... generally a piece of hard candy. After a week I went out for dinner, something I generally don't do. As far as the ego and stardust, good starter set. I did use a stardust for a little while, the only problem I encountered was flooding juice in to the mouth piece. You can avoid this by making sure not to fill it all the way to the top of the wicks and to keep it pointing a bit towards the ground. If you hold it horizontally juice could get between the coil and the mouthpiece. Also, when you are starting a new coil (when you first get it and when you have to replace it) I would fill it then let it sit for a little while to allow the wicks to really absorb the fluid, 10 mins or so. That prevents the new coil dry hits. From my experience it did provide a decent amount of vapor and flavor.

Like others said, don't beat yourself up over smoking a cig. I'm not worrying about the 5 or 6 a day I have, even though I had gone 7 weeks w/o one. Tried dropping nic level to much and got horrible cravings and gave in (went from 18mg to 12mg). I know I will get rid of them entirely but take each day one step at a time. Gotta look at the ones you don't smoke, I had been having 2 after dinner for a while now and tonight only had 1, so I'm getting there. Really didn't bother me much.

Another word of advice that I'm not sure anybody mentioned, if a craving hits and you're at home just vape your head off for a few minutes and the urge will subside. I also find just vaping for 15 minutes or so works, not chain vaping just enjoying it suppose like a cigar smoker smokes their cigar.

I am also from Canada and as a 40 year two pack a day smoker, I can tell you that it is possible to quit... several years ago I purchased a cigalike kit (looks like a cigarette), from zero-tar, they were awful and just didn't cut it for a heavy smoker like myself. About 4 months ago I thought I would give it another try..... what has worked for me (and I can still hardly believe it), is a battery called the ego c twist along with a juice delivery systems called the Evod & Viva Nova. The batteries look like this :

https://www.canvape.com/Genuine-Joyetech-eGo-C-Twist-p/twist.htm

The Kit I started with had two of these twist batteries and an assortment of cartomizers (juice delivery systems), which really helped me figure out what I liked......the kit I got is this one:

https://www.canvape.com/product-p/ultwistkit.htm

There are quite a few vendors that sell nicotine juice and while it is discouraged by Health Canada, it is not illegal to sell in Canada, however if you decide to order Nic Juice from the States, it may or may not be confiscated at the border.

If you visit a Canadian Vendor and you do not see Nic juice listed, then you have to register and log in to see the nic juice. One of my favorite juice vendors is Maple Leaf Vapes. Hang in there, you are on your way to being a non-smoker!

For several weeks I smoked and vaped and each day I smoked less, so if you have a few cigarettes don't beat yourself up, not everyone can go straight to vaping.
