Ok... I've been on an EVOD setup for 2 weeks.... only slipped up once with a real smoke

Here's my question... I went in to my local shop to get a new flavor because after two weeks I thought I needed something different. I got in there and started talking to the "pros" and came out with a variable voltage 1350 battery setup. What's the variable part supposed to do? I was fine with the EVOD like it was, but now I have this new battery and I should probably figure out what it does. I know I sound like an idiot and I probably am but I have it so I should probably learn what it does. I mean they make them variable so it must be for something right? Anybody have 2 cents worth about basic variables? Thanks in advanced.

first i wouldn't say your an idiot, I would call the sales person that help you one. They should have explained it to you before you left.

in a nut shell what the variable voltage does is allow you to fine tune your vape by changing the voltage. evod batteries are a constant 3.7v's as where the variables usually range between 3.3 and 4.2 volts with settings in between. the higher the voltage the warmer it will be and can give off more vapor. the lower the cooler and lighter the vapor will be. everyone has a preferred setting so start at the lowest setting take a few puffs and go up one setting. do this till you find the best setting, that will be your preferred setting. The preferred setting can also change based on the flavor, not everything taste great at the same setting.

I have a vv battery coming in as well. Essentially you can improve the flavor. From what I understand, you should start at a lover level and tweet until you hit the sweet spot for that liquid. Each liquid would have a different setting to your liking. I know that you could do more with different cartos/clearos but for now, experiment. I do know that if oh have it too high you will get a burnt taste and eventually possibly damage the coils. I can't wait to experiment with mine.

Variable voltage does just what it sounds like it does. Your evod battery puts out a voltage of 3.7 volts. Variable voltage batteries allow you to vary the amount of power being supplied to your atomizer, higher voltage runs more energy through your coils and less voltage (you guessed it) puts out less energy. What set up did you buy? Do you know the name? In any case, play around with the settings, see what you like.

Everything said so far is spot on. I can only add that each coil/head or whatever you call it comes with its own resistance. On a similar battery, I try to get 1.8 to 2.0 ohm. That resistance will be etched on the metal replaceable head, especially if you have very good eyesight or an illuminated magnifier. If you ever have to change to a coil with a different electrical resistance, you will have to readjust the voltage by rotating the marked knob at the end of the battery. As burnnoticefanny mentioned, just dink around tell you hit that sweet spot.

I'm not sure of much with the setup. I know it's a 1350 and it says SMOK on it so I guess it's the brand. I've been playing with it some and it seems like lower (3.5 or so) is better with lighter fruity flavor and higher (4-4.2) seem better with like the chocolate vanilla I have. I guess I caved to peer pressure.

Seems to be answered, but in case you're still not sure - basically you now get to turn the "power" up or down a bit, so it'll vape the way you like it. You are used to something that puts out 3.7 volts until it can't anymore, and then slowly gets weaker and weaker til it's done. Now you can vape at 3.9 if you prefer it, or 3.6 if you prefer it. Totally your choice.

It also gives you leeway to adjust for the COIL that's in your EVOD clearomizer. Even though those coils SHOULD be 1.8 or 2.2 or whatever it is you bought - they really vary quite a bit. I can check mine - and many that are supposed to be 1.8 are really 2.0.

So let's say you're happily vaping a coil that's 1.8 ohms with your 3.7 volt battery, and then switch to a new coil and it's actually 2.1 ohms, it's not going to produce as well. But now with your new battery, you'll be able to just turn up the voltage a little, and get what you want.

It is really Regulated Voltage.

It keeps the voltage constant.

What exactly is it though?
Smok ego winder? 1300 ?

Sounds like it's probably a Smoktech "Winder".
I've got one of those.
I've got several bigger mods, and tanks and such - but I still use the winder all the time as a backup (or just to have an alternate flavor in a different pocket :)), and it works great.

Yup - that would be made by Smoktech and they are good batteries. It's a good way to upgrade because it can use the same charger you already have for the EVOD batteries.

You already figured it out. :) That's the whole point of being able to vary the voltage: Higher voltage makes your coil get hotter, drop the voltage and it doesn't get so hot. Most liquids flavorings work better at different voltages (heat levels) as you are figuring out. If you have low resistance devices they don't need as high a voltage to deliver. Get some higher resistance coils and you can move the voltage higher to get them to put out the flavor and vapor level you want.

It doesn't make your fixed voltage batteries obsolete, so long as you find the right resistance device that you like on those batteries. With a VV battery you have much more latitude and getting the "exact" resistance device now doesn't matter so much.

If you caved to peer pressure on this one it was only a little cave. And a good one.

Welcome!

Well it wasn't a complete cave. I went back and got another tank for the old battery because my girl is always wanting to puff on mine. I don't mind if she puffs mine but shes not a smoker and I wanted her to puff 0 nic Im on 16mg. No sense getting on nic if she wasn't before. Got her some French vanilla she likes so all is good. I'm really digging this site!! I just wish I had found it about a week or two earlier.
