how does one embed the video into a message board post instead of just linking to it?

I'm sorry but I don't know what you call the things but ---- right below the Quick Reply heading is a row of formatting options. (avail in Go Advanced as well)

The next to the last one = insert video. Click it, a pop up appears. Copy and paste in the address from your address bar from you tube etc.
