Been doing .7-.9ohm dual coils for a while now as i like the way they vape. (using the ody on the GGTS)
2x 1inch 0.16mm kanthal does the trick for me. Up until now, i've been using single 3.5mm wick, and the juice control had to be cranked up to the max in order for the wick to feed the coil and avoid dry hits. I've been getting dry hits sometimes anyway, especially with a fresh battery, and the coil would gunk up at a very alarming rate, all while it appeared that the heat was focusing in the middle of the coil. The middle 2 turns (out of 6) was the only part to glow during a dry burn, while the rest of the coil didnt appear to get as much heat as the mid.
Now, i did a couple of things differently yesterday, and it appears to have transformed my vape. Am i correct to assume the below?
After wrapping the dual coil around the 3.5mm wick (comes out to 6-7 turns total), i removed 2 strands for the positive (ceramic) side, and 3 strands from the solid (negative) side. I noticed that the wick needed to be forced down the channels otherwise, and i think the 90 degree bent going into the channel was making the wick very solid at that point, which didnt leave any room for the juice to flow comfortably to the coil.
Before wrapping my coil, i tossed the wick into the microwave with some water and boiled it. Then, removed the water and left the coil in the microwave to dry. Some posts indicated that it helps the wick do it's job better in case it was dried out. Not knowing whether that was the case, i did it anyway. Not sure of the effect, but i'll be doing that from now on anyway

The end result, was that even on a fresh battery, i am vaping with no dry burns even with the juice control opened up just 2 turns. The fact that i had to crank it up before, can only make me think that the ends of the coil were being flooded, while the middle was not getting enough juice, which resulted in less vapor/bigger throat hit (which indicates flooding), but also combined with a moderately dry/burn hit, all in one. Not to mention the huge gunk ball formed, but only in the middle of the coil.
It was very puzzling indeed. Am i thinking all of this right?
