No one has come forward with the fail threshold for the gold contacts. A few folks vape in and around 0.3 regularly and a couple have reported builds below that.

The usual consequence of prolonged lower resistance vaping is battery pitting from arc'ing and buildup on the contacts (firing pin in particular). Deoxit gold applied to the contacts and the bat terminals is recommended to reduce/eliminate these issues. Frequent, regular cleaning is also required - just be careful of the gold plated contacts, and use nothing abrasive.

It all depends on how well you maintain your mod . People ask me this ? all the time . How low can I go there is no one answer fits all . The only people having problems are people that dont no how to run a mechanical mod . They run the mod dry no noalox or even better deoxit . They dont ask until the damage is done . I have a couple close friends on the forum that run there grands under .2 and have for along time but they no how to maintain there mods . FB is correct you wont want to hold button down for super long draws on a .2 ohm coil .

I am so glad a 1 ohm coil works for me

This was answered in a post back when the contacts first made it onto the scene. I think it was Zmauls that did some testing and as long as you stayed above .2Ω and didn't take a very long hit, you were pretty good. Once you get below that it pretty much is too much for the contacts to handle. I had one I ran @ .22Ω for a couple days but was too warm for me so I went back up to .3Ω+ from then on...

I run point two ohm coils all the time, I maintain my mod very well and only collapsed the spring once and that was from a shorted coil.

I bathe the grand weekly and apply noalox to all the contacts and battery every week. I really haven't had any issues, knock on wood. I run hot coils because it makes the flavor a lot better. I don't care for cloud chasing, although it will chunk the vapor.

Hi, guys. Looks like my input might be appreciated here.

Yes, the voltage drop tests were good when comparing the gold contacts to homemade brass contacts and outstanding when comparing the gold contacts to the original SS contacts. The fuse mod (which, OP, as a super-subber, you should look into), yielded better results than both springs when used with any/all positive contacts. The original tests were run against 0.20 ohms.

Here is the original thread:

Even better than the fuse mod (as far as voltage drop and consistency in performance, at least for super-subbing) is the shim mod, which I'm a huge fan of, personally. The bottom fed Tugboat V2 below is currently built at 0.14Ω. Zero problems with liberally applied Noalox.

PLEASE NOTE: THE SHIM MOD WILL NULLIFY HOT SPRING/SHORT SAFETY!

If you flip the spring upside down and solder the spring were is has been pressed together you can enjoy the same improvement and breath easy knowing your spring will drop . I am totally against any modification that wont break the connection with a dead short . your playing with fire and there is no need to

Thanks, Rob. I take all the necessary safety precautions, and the way I see it, the shim mod makes the Grand no more or less dangerous than your standard tube mod, except the Reo's performance beats most tubes out there by a long shot. That soldering idea is new to me though, might have to try it out... love ya, big guy.

Doh!...of course, why didn't I think of that?...that's brilliant (which is probably why I didn't think of it )
