So I just got some vapemail from the place everyone loves to hate , fasttech, I recieved the ss caravela mod...
So the question is do I go sub ohm? Dual coil or single coil?

I have efest 35 amp purple batteries and efest red 30 amp, ohm meter with attachment for battery voltage

I have built a few single micro coils on my pheonix v5, 1.5 ohm

So now that I have the mechanical I'm tempted to go lower on ohms

I guess the question is should I do single or dual?

Yeah I was just wondering if sub ohm is better for a single coil or for a dual coil. So like one coil at 0.6 ohms or two 1.2 coils = 0.6 ohm?

If that question makes sense...

Oh and the previous 1.5 ohm single coil was on my mvp2. Was practicing for the mech to arrive..

My fav single is 1.2 ohm.
My fav dual is two 1.2 ohm coils which makes 0.6 ohms.

As long as you have an ohm meter, do whatever you want! But I would recommend staying around 1 ohm on a single coil first, then around .8 or .9 ohms once you get a hang of that. Because it does take some time learning how long to keep the button down and how to not burn your wick and whatnot. Dual coils don't improve your vape experience, they just make more vapor. You get a great hit & good vapor around 1 ohm.

My personal preference is for a nice 1.2x2 (net .6) microcoil build with cotton. It fires fast and throws a LOT of vapor, yet keeps the flavour.

I would suggest that you start with a single 1.2 to get used to the new platform and practice your coil build technique - you'll need to be able to replicate a coil faithfully for the dual builds as they should match very closely.

Emus has pretty much covered it.

Play around a little. I'd start by sticking the stuff you already have on the mech and it will give you a baseline. 1.5ohm will work on a mech without being super disappointing.

I run a dual .8 ohm coil on the Aqua. It was better than 1 ohm. Haven't pushed lower, but I've seen a lot of people put that as their sweet spot for the aqua.

I started with a .9 ohm coil on the kayfun. Absolutely too hot. Not awesome at all. I ended up between 1.1-1.2 ohm the second time around (single) and it's just about perfect.

I now build 1.2ohm coils in protanks and such as well. And they work fine on the mech as well.

You can go super low ohm if you want. But I've found life between .6-1.5ohm to be perfectly good on a mech without VV/VW.

Okay thanks guys! Looks like 1.2s are getting the thumbs up.. Will try that single then move to double....

Yeah I think have a good start on tools but as always will be ogling more and more to get..

Yeah right now I'm hitting the 1.5 on the clone... Not too bad

I've tried to read and read... I like my face the way it is.. Ahah

I probably won't go super low ohm just for the fact I don't know if I'll ever read enough to be safe on that front.

I appreciate all the help though. You have given me a great jumping off point!

Sub ohming makes airflow a lot more important. There is a tremendous amount of heat generated.

Tight draw and low ohms aren't ideal.

Double and triple checking your builds to ensure you aren't shorted also... is basically like gun safety. (Don't look down the barrel - important)

That's the one that's really gonna get ya!

Yeah for a charger I have the nite core i4... Charging up some batteries now

I was building them in the mvp2 and checking the ohms. Firing it a few times and then feeding the cotton through and checkin ohms again.

But now I'll have to modify that to the ohms meter...

After that the coil seemed to fire from then on out.

I'm sure I'll be checking the output voltage on the batteries for a while till I get a feel of when they are down to 3.6 v or so and need changing

What Asmo said -- If I sub ohm I try to keep it around 0.9 on dual coils. Single coil I wrap 12 wraps 28ga kanthal for a 1.2 ohm.
Play with those builds. Before you know it, you will be hitting what ohm you want even before you put it on the meter.
Good Luck

My favorite single coil build, for now, is a six wrap microcoil (5/64th) with twisted 28g. Right around .6ohms. Great flavor and nice and dense vapor.

Yep -- 5 to 6 wraps on a 20ga. blunt lure lock w/28ga kanthal will give the same results. Nice vape too.
