I'm semi new to vaping (couple months). I'm currently using an ego setup, but really wanting to get into sub ohm vaping. I see many interesting possibilities and pros to vaping sub ohm. My question is what would be a good tank to pick up/start out with? After looking at a few mods I've ordered a Kanger Kbox. It looks like a good one to try out, and the price is right. So far I'm leaning towards the Atlantis 2 or Subtank mini. Which one would you guys suggest and why or can you recommend another possibly?

Not that I subohm exactly, but reading around the forum(s) I would go for the one that offers the best coil life, vapor and flavor.
I use some subohm coils, but I tend to vape them at under 4.0v (less than a mech) which, to me, is not really sub-ohming. Sometimes they just get packaged in a tank 'kit'. Sometimes, I make a dual coil RDA that just happens to come out a little low. It's all good.
Take it, (or make it) and Vape it. :)

Agreed. Subtank Mini's are great. I bought one about a month ago and loved it so much that I bought two more last week. As an added bonus, should you decide you want to start building your own coils, the Subtank Mini's already come with an RBA section. :thumb:
I'm really liking it for that option. I'd like to learn to build coils for the included rba deck.

I have heard that the fixed pin in the subox mini is not a good thing. Is it really that bad to have it fixed instead of spring loaded?

I hadn't heard it had a fixed pin. There is a large thread on this unit in the forum, I'll check there. I'd probably be looking elsewhere if it has the fixed pin 510 connection. If you're just running one style tank the fixed pin may not be an issue. If it is fixed it may be adjustable with a screwdriver.

Kanger Subtank is great and very versatile.
You may want to look into the Sense Herakles or the Arctic sub tanks.

But honestly, if you want to go sub ohm, go dripping. Drip attys are great. If you're looking to go that route, I suggest dual coil or more. For that, you want a 3 or more post atty.
I'm ordering the Ivogo N22, which I can build a quad coil setup. That's a cloud chaser addy and that's where I'm headed.
This is where the fun begins!

I know this may sound stupid but I'm aware that when you vape a sub ohm you should use a lower strength nicotine liquid. I vape an 18mg now, how much lower would be recommended. 6mg, 3mg?

Everyone's different of course, but given that you're currently at 18mg, I would try 6mg.

If you discover you prefer 3mg, you can always buy a 0mg bottle to cut your 6mg down to 3. ;)

I like the subtank mini with the RBA deck, but not so much with the prebuilt coils. My next tank will be the Silo Beast. Top fill design and it can use Atlantis Coils as well as the Silo Beast coils.

Love the Silo Beast! Top fill is so much more convenient, that I can't really understand why more manufacturers of tanks don't include that feature!

While I love my Kanger mini tank, every time I have to refill, turning it over, removing the base, juice invariably drips from the coil, gets on the tank, on my hands, etc. I almost always have to get paper towels to clean up, and wash my hands.

With top fill (done correctly) simply close the air holes, unscrew the top, fill, replace top and reopen air control holes.

Done!

Thanks, that would be a pure or mostly vg liquid? If you want the big clouds. I've heard too much pg can irritate your throat quite a bit?

Yes, if you're looking for more vapor you're going to want to stick to the higher VG juices. Generally speaking the higher the VG, the bigger the clouds. That said, I've found that the Subtank sometimes can't keep up with thicker juices, especially at 90VG and above. It seems to work just fine for others, so YMMV.

As for PG, some people really like the throat hit they get from 50+ PG juice. Personally, I like a smoother and denser vape, so I stick to 70VG and up.

Hi there.
I have kbox and have it matched to Billow V2 rta. I have built a dual coil reading 4.5 ohms and vape 70/30 vg/pg at 30w and it is brilliant! If you fancy an rba, then look no further. Oh, did I mention it looks the nutz too. Take a look at the reviews on utube. Building is easy and rewarding if you take the time to research. It's taken me a month or so to feel very happy building and getting the desired affect. There are good free apps to tell you how many wraps and what wire etc. And a plethora of vids. Rip trippers is very good, if not slightly irritating. Take the plunge. If it interests you now, you can guarantee that's where you'll end up. Buying pre made coils is expensive and pointless when you can build better.
