Meh, started with a nautilus mini and a istick 30 earlier this year, and was totally fine with it.....it got me off smokes np...Then I fell into the sub ohm trap, picked up a sub tank and a 50 watt box, added a few rda's to the mix and before I knew it I was mixing my own juices because that was the only way I could afford to blow through 20+ Mls a day.....it made no sense to me...I was trying to quit smoking, not fill my lungs with 100+ mls a week.....this went on for at least 3 months and I got totally sick of my sub tank hitting lung hits and as high as the tank would let me just to get a lousy nic hit...
Then came along a clone kayfun from a local shop and I'm in heaven. I get a nice efficient nic hit with minimal vape. I get flavor, long battery life, and use low amounts of juice. Screw the clouds...

I am a lung hitter with .48 ohm adjustable wattage box mod. Strongly recommend you get an atomizer like doje competition to be able to adjust from very large vent opening to a very small vent. Then you can tune or adjust both watts and ventilation to what you prefer. Switching from cigs to vape i would suggest a 5mg nicotine content. I was a pack a day smoker and only very rarely will feel dizzy or get a headache from vaping and the nic cravings are very manageable with 5 mg nicotine content. Thats what you should shoot for... Meeting cravings and not building a worse nicotine habit while saving your lungs from the other nasty byproducts of tobacco and getting your tastebuds back. I think you would enjoy subohm vaping and i know i sure do.

There's a few trade offs with tanks. I use rtas, and every week I break them all down and clean and rewick them. I still have to fill them, just not as much as a dripper.
I clean tanks only when I recoil them. I have two tanks in rotation and I do not remember when I have recoiled/cleaned them (several months ago...). I rewicked them both 1.5 month ago when I was going on trip. Wicks still work perfect. By the way, juice is a good antimicrobial liquid.

...
When I rebuild my tanks, I wear rubber gloves.
For what purpose?

We do the same things quite differently. But it works.

I wear the gloves because I don't want to get the juice all over my hands lol

Seems to me. Like cloud chasers are lung-hitters. Ex-smokers are mouth-to-lung hitters. At least I am. I'm not sure I would like sub-ohm vaping. Am I wrong?
Most ppl when they quit smoking r mtl hitters at first cuz that how u pull on a cig. Cigs r too restricted to do lung inhales. But once they get used to it, they want more vapour, n eventually they get to sub ohm

Both my wife and I were long term (40 year) heavy smokers. I was always a MTL smoker. Frankly I thought that was the way everyone did it. When we took up vaping I learned that my wife of 40 years was a STL smoker. Always had been. Wow, you think you know someone and then...

I think a lot of this depends on airflow. With subohm and STL you usually need more airflow. Some ex-smokers (like me) really like a tighter, less airy draw. Yes, the very definition of tootle puffer.

It turns out everyone really is different.

Almost the same here, wife and I smoked together as a couple for 24 years and never noticed we did it differently. Never even heard the terms MTL or direct lung until I found this forum. Compared mental notes and watched each other pretend to smoke and discovered she was direct lung and I was MTL. 5 1/2 years after we had quit! Explains why I hated her ultra lights as much as she hated my lights even when we smoked the same brand.

Vaping zero nic I can effortlessly switch between the two styles depending on the rig. MTL with a K1 on a twist / spinner and direct lung on a larger tank on a mechanical mod. Think the size of the drip tip is a bigger clue than the shape of the device. Ruined a brand new Viking angle neck battery using a sub tank mini with a 1 ohm coil. Knew better than to try the 1/2 ohm coil, just thought it could handle 1 ohm:( While it worked was direct lung verses MTL on the smaller tank.

Your very wrong. People are different.

I smoked between 40-80 full flavor menthol's for 36 years. I did not smoke in my house. I had alot of smoke to get in and tootling wasn't gonna cut.

This is why vaping was covered in fail for me the first few years. Low watts just can't create the volume I need (want really cause nothing about either is "needed").

Vaping for me was a failure at first. Then I became a dual user. Then I switched to full time vaping with Nautilus and then Kayfun and high nic juice. I hated it. It kept me from smoking but I wasn't happy and was in fact a walking relapse just looking for some "stress".

Enter subohm and low nic juice.

From that day smoking was a done deal. Never even think of smoking unless I'm here. I'm not running from smoking now I running towards vaping.

I think whatever works is the best way. I don't understand how tootle puffing could ever work but ya know what?? I don't need to. If its working for somene god bless em'. And they need to understand that for others some else works.

My journey has led me to surprise myself and I now say,''Never say never''.

After I quit smoking a pack a day for over 30 years, I was a ''tootle puffer'' vaper -- a standard resistance, low voltage, mouth to lung vaper. As time passed by, I resisted rebuilding coils which had become the newest trend along with something called subohm vaping. After all, I was perfectly content vaping on a Provari at 4 volts or less with a 3.0 ohm cartotank.

I was forced into an early retirement and took on a part time position at a vape shop last year, which required that I become knowledgeable and proficient in rebuilding. I learned that a knowlegable and skilled coil builder can create a cool, flavorful direct lung vape with an ultra subohm/ high wattage setup which was a big improvement from my previous setup.

In a matter of about 6 months I had gone from one extreme style to the other. Never became a cloud chaser per say, I have never built lower than 0.5 ohms. Today I appreciate and use both styles. Never say never.

    @Baditude has become a Sub'ohm'er?!? :ohmy:

 Maybe I should give it a shot :?:

I vaped mtl for over 4 years. I paid no attention to vaping for about 3 years, just kept vaping as I always had. Vaping was never satisfying the way I wanted it to be, but it was enough to keep me off cigarettes and I didn’t want to smoke any more. I was/am still getting my tobacco fix from pipes and cigars.

Right after the holidays I glanced at what was going on in vaping for the first time in a long while. The ST Mini had just come out, and I ordered an iPV Mini and an ST Mini. It took me precisely two hours to go from mtl vaper to direct lung inhale. It was a revelation. It was everything I ever wanted vaping to be. Great saturated flavor, no more days of not being able to taste my vape, a core satisfaction that beat the throat hit I used to get from mtl, and finally I could actually tell there was nicotine in my vape and even had to reduce my levels so as not to get nic sick. Quite a surprise for a cigar smoker.

I smoked 2 packs a day for 30 years, started when I was 12. I am a behavioral smoker/nicotine user. For me, sub ohm has actually somewhat reduced the frequency I hit my device, and I know for a fact that I am taking shorter draws than I used to. I love it, vaping is finally a satisfying replacement for me, not just something I settle for so that I can enjoy improved respiratory health. The one gripe I have is that going through so much VG now, it does seem that when I get a respiratory sickness vaping seems to impede my getting better and prolong my illness just as smoking did. Other than that I have not noticed any respiratory impairment compared to old fashioned vaping. Still a healthier choice than smoking, and more satisfying now.

My $.02. Vape how you like and don’t care what anyone else thinks of it.

Would vaping mtl make you cough a lot when trying a subohm build at higher watts?
    A little background -
I used a ego for the 1st year I vaped and discovered the billet box (originally used a carto and then moved onto the bridge to use coils)I used that exclusively until recently trying out a Kanger subbox mini. When I 1st got the Kanger I was coughing a lot!
I switched the coils from .5 to approx 1.1ohm and that worked fairly well for awhile around 18 watts.
After reading this thread I tried a few lung hits off my kanger and was impressed that it hit even better and best of all - no coughing. I was able to up the wattage to 25 and still no coughing.
I'm excited to retry subohm builds on my rda subtank.
