I bought a Wismec mod for christmas that has a Gnome tank. It has a .2ohm coil. The mod isn't working right. Sometimes the display doesn't light up and doesn't fire the coil. Other times the display comes on but it doesn't fire the coil. my question is if I put the gnome tank on a regular tube mod (unregulated) will the mod blow up since it's a subohm tank?

Which Wismec mod did you get, and what batteries specifically are you using? (Make and model batteries)

Your tank could have a coil short or the mod may have a faulty electrical connection to the tank. The mod's 510 center pin could have been pushed into the mod from over-tightening the tank onto the mod.

Do you own an ohm reader to measure coil resistance? It could help determine if the coil has a short (would read 0.0 ohm). You might replace the coil with a new one and see if that helps.

We generally don't recommend putting a clearomizer tank that uses factory made drop in coils on a mech (unregulated). Their coils tend to vary widely in ohm resistance and often have inconsistant overall quality. Clearomizers should be reserved for regulated mods.

Its a Wismec RX GEN3 with a gnome tank. The batteries are Aspire 1800mAh 40A 18650.

Are all tanks Clearomizers?

The Gnome tank indeed is a clearomizer tank. It's not rebuildable, so it can't be called a RTA (rebuildable tank atomizer). It uses factory-made, drop-in replacement coils, so it is a clearomizer tank by definition.

That may be why your Wisemic won't fire the coil. The coil in the tank probably has a short which the Wisemic detected with its protection circuitry and refuses to fire. Another reason not to use this tank on an unregulated mod.

The Wismec has a spring under the 510 connection so thats not it. It also has an Ohm meter built in and its saying .25ohm. its a three coil drop-in. if it was the coil the display should still light up everytime I pushed the fire button.

Then it sounds like your Wisemic is malfunctioning. Is it still under warranty?

Mine has the 40A on the wrapper
wasn't he talking about the one with the wrapper that Didn't say 40A?
If you read Mooch's assessment of the new unrated battery he said...

"The previous version of this cell was strong competition for the Sony VTC5A for mechanical device users and those who needed the hardest hitting cell, i.e., the one with the highest voltage when pulsed.

While this Aspire still hits as hard as the VTC5A for the first couple of draws it quickly drops in voltage as it discharges. The Sony VTC5A is clearly the better performer now, running for at least 40% longer when pulsed at high current levels done to 3.2V (about 3.6V at rest)."

The Sony VTC5A is a 25 amp battery. What's your point? Aspire over-rated the original (40A) battery, it's really a 25 amp battery as is the VTC5A. That's common practice among companies that re-wrap batteries. Are You Using a Rewrap (Rebranded or Aftermarket) Battery?

So only RTA's should be used on a tube mod?

Only rebuildable drip atomizers (RDA) or rebuildable tank atomizers (RTA) on an unregulated mech mod.

"Tube mods" can be either unregulated or regulated. Don't confuse the terminology. "Tube" only designates the form factor (shape). The same is true with box mods; they can be regulated or unregulated. "Box" only designates the form factor.
