Hello all, just joined today. Been lurking for a while and learning a lot. Had to finally join. Thank you everyone for your amazing help and knowledge.

So, I've been vaping on and off for the past year. Started with a gravity battery with a kanger protank 3. Then went back to analogs after dunking it in water on accident. Anyways, back to vaping and enjoying it again much more than smoking even with a few problems.

I need some help though. I've been reading post after post about dry and/or burnt taste and can't find anything specific I'm doing wrong. So I figured I'd just ask with my build and problem. I recently purchased a Subox mini kit and have been rebuilding on the rba that comes with it. After watching every YouTube video about rebuilding these coils. I've done 2.5mm builds with 5 "wraps" ( I believe is the term, please correct me if I'm wrong), 6 and even 8 wraps for my coils. I've tried dual coils even. Now I've settled on a 3mm build with 6 wraps running at 1.3 to 1.4 ohms depending on the build which I've done about 20 times. But I still haven't been able to get past 16w comfortably with half my air restricted trying to pull in more juice. Without getting a seriously disgusting burnt hit and taste. I'm running it just above 11w just to be safe so I'm not getting a burnt wick half way through the work day. I do tend to chain vape which might be one issue. Sorry this is so long but any suggestions are appreciated.

materials used for builds:
28gauge a1 kanthal
Organic cotton
70/30 vg/pg juice

howdy - and welcome!

any chance we could get pic of the build? I currently have a twisted 6 wrap (2.5mm, i think) in my kanger rba, running 30 watts at .4ohms and it is wicking like a champ (using the organic cotton pad wicking)... my first thought would be it is a wicking issue (maybe too tight in coil, restricting juice flow?) - pic would help

I've tried multiple different types of wickings. But if I use too little I get flooding. Hopefully the picture will help.

You all had vey good points and helped me fix the problem. I was using this "bunny ears" method I've seen used on majority of the YouTube videos I've watched. You pull the wick through, cut some off then shove some down in. I do believe that was the root of my problems. I used less cotton inside my coil as well as what is sticking out. I did my best to duplicate your build Boden. I don't have the ability to do a 2.5mm coil since I lost my screwdriver. But a 3mm seems to work for the time being until I get my coil building kit in the mail.

Please understand I'm a noob compared to most of the people on here so someone please correct me if I'm wrong. But to my knowledge "flooding" is when your juice basically drains out of your tank and/or into your mouth while trying to vape. I had it happen on a couple of my builds where I didn't completely cover the holes with cotton in my rba. I lost roughly 4ml from it leaking out of my tank.

Hey got a Problem too, my kbox mini fires at 50w only with max 4.4volts 50w feels like 20watts.. Someone here who knows this issue?
.5Ω coil probably, higher ohm coil will result in more volts. Many people around here have been trying to make the point for some time that vaping on higher ohm coils is superior to lower ohm coils when used on regulated devices. If you want more volts, put the 1.2Ω coil in there and vape it at around 25 watts (5.5v).
