Subtank mini OCC coil weird taste

I've been vaping for around 2 months using an ego style device (now knowing it is garbage). It had tons of problems: leaking, dry hits, airflow too tight and battery not working properly. Because of all these problems I decided to upgrade and get a Subtank Mini and an Ego One battery wich has been a fantastic setup, lots of flavour and lots of vapour.
After my first 2 weeks of use alternating between rba(with the stock coil that comes with the kit), the 1.2 and the 0.5 to compare them I started to notice a weird flavour coming from ONLY the 0.5 ohm OCC coil.
Its also important to mention that I rewicked the coil and dry burned it(without the wicking of course). The taste i'm getting resembles the smell coming out of the coil when dry burning.
What could have caused this sudden taste change?

Try a new 0.5 OCC coil (local vape shop should have one for the $3-$5 range if you don't have a pack already). Not a big fan of reusing a coil from an atomizer head that's already spent. While you were in there, better to have replaced the actual coil, too. You likely have some crud REALLY burnt on the coil. When that happens, you can fix it in theory by torching the coil. I personally am not a fan of this... over time and with repeated use, the resistance of these coils actually changes due to changes in the physical structure of the metal. Just replace that 20 cent piece of metal while you're replacing the 20 cents worth of cotton. Again, if you're hung up on reusing the coil, resign yourself to re-wick again... after you replace the nasty tasting coil. Lots of good videos out there on how to do that. Try a new 0.5 OCC coil if nothing else, though and just keep a handful at the ready to replace them as needed when you can't rebuild.

Can ego style batteries handle anything below .5 ohms?

Short answer = no.
Most Ego batteries will not fire down below about 1.2ohms. Some may be a little lower but I've never heard of one firing below 1ohm. But, I could be wrong...happens more than I like to admit! lol :vapor:

I've been using the subtank for a few weeks now. I have found a single micro coil with around 8 wraps, using 26 gauge kanthal does the trick. Runs at about .7 ohms. Seems to fire really nicely at 10w. I have found liquid to sporadically escape during vape though. Inserted a fine layer of cotton into the drip tip today and its now working a treat. Warm thick plumes of lovelyness. Have often noticed an almost foisty taste though over the past week or so. Kind of like a wet dish cloth. This was happening before I inserted the cotton filter so that isn't the problem. It may be the luquid I am using though. Has any one else had this? It is not overpowering. Just slight.

Aspire makes an Ego style battery that they pair with the their Atlantis tank for a subohm capable platinum kit.
