I am new, and I would like to share and hear others stories of success and failure/mistakes you have made when you started out, here are mine:

Mistakes:

Used gas station kit to start, didn't work very well and went back to regular cigs same day.

Bought a different gas station kit on vacation and could not get refill cartridges for it when I got home, it worked ok as a sub but didn't last long and only till the kit carts ran out.

Got a blu after some research (spend 50 on the starter kit), it works well but I have to constantly puff on it to get my fix. I am using it now.

My wife is using chantix, but still misses the act of smoking, so she will sometimes get cigs on our drinking night. When she does I smoke them with her, but I always feel like garbage the next day. I hope she will take up the e-cig once I find the proper combination of throat hit and nic level, but till then I am always at risk to smoke.

Success:

Can drink and use my Blu, but again, I have to constantly switch bats out and keep it in my mouth at all times.

Have been able to cut way back on my asthma meds since I started using e-cigs.

Don't wake up with gross mouth after using my e-cig.

sense of smell is returning to normal level, and since I love food it tastes that much better. This could eventually end up in fail once I put on all the extra weight I am sure to gain from this enjoyment :)

I have been researching and it looks like it may be time to order some juice and a volt starter kit, or maybe looking into something else. Not sure yet, I love to tinker so maybe I will look at mods.

What are your success and failures?

my only success was lavatube, or lt mini with vivi nova tank ... all else was a waste of money ie gas station ecigs (ego didnt give enough battery life, and always had me worried about the battery life.

lavatube has digital readout telling me how much battery is left .. oo happppy days .. done deal ... no more looking around and spending money for me.

I have a friend who tried chantix and her opinion was that it did help a tiny bit, but she felt it was mostly her willpower that helped her quit cold turkey, no e-cig. she did say the side effects were too much for her and so she quit taking it after two months, but has been smoke free for 4 years.

My wife feels like cutting back gradually has been the most beneficial action. She gave up her favorite cigs first (after eating, while driving) and vaped instead. She cut back one at a time from 1 ppd all the way to one cig per day until she finally quit. This step down approach was recommended by her doctor.

I started with a blu, and that was fine for a start. Then I switch to the tornado tank form totally wicked. I rocked that device for a good 8 months before I got a DCT. and a mini lava tube. Soon as I got the tube, I was hooked on VV so I immediately got a Provari. The only fail I have had so far was buying a pyrex tank!!!! I had that thing for 3 mins before I dropped it and it shattered. So now I am still rocking my VPX cartomater. I got my business partner a Tripolitis tank for his birthday last week and I think I may have to get one myself!!

Started with an m401 kit 3 yrs ago. It never worked well for me. Off and on for the last 3 years I went through similar m401 kits and they all sucked. 3 yrs later still smoking. I bought a LT Vvv and the difference is amazing. Three days in and it is night and day how much better it is. I actually feel like im getting something. Drove 600 miles yesterday and didn't smoke a single cig, ( normally would have smoked 10 or so. ) I read from a few peppe that they tell people to start with a simple kit, I would say the opposite. Go for the best you can afford and do it.

I consider my experience a success.... Started on little imitation cigalike batteries, had 3 of these. bought ego type vv with battery life on display, and an embossed coloured ego a like too. have bought and tried cartomisers, clearomisers, vision ego... but my fave all time is stainless steel tank like clearomisers, that i am stockpiling now!! mistakes were smokimisers... leaks! and choc e-juice, yuk! and beware menthol mouth, also banana indigestion.... lol
Am very happy with my strawberry, cherry and tabac flavoutrs tho....

WOW my first post on ECF!

I found an ad on the local news web site for the Fifty One Trio starter kit for about $6. I should have read the fine print a little better, after 10 days they charged my account $150 and I didn't even like it very much. after a few calls to the company I was refunded $80.
After that I started buying the Finiti disposables at $10 a pop and they only lasted a day and a half. Then went on to the BLU disposables and these kept me off the analogs but was costing me more then smoking so I decided to buy an NJOY and some extra cartomizers another $40. so now I'm at about $150 and its only been about 3 weeks. I started refilling the NJOY cartos getting e-liquid from a local vendor. about this time a coworker of mine noticed I was vaping and told me about the VOLT by smokeless Image I bought the premium starter kit. I'm very happy with the volt. I have been smoke free for about 4 weeks now and can't see myself going back to analogs.

I was really close to giving up on e-cigs. I glad I didn't but wish I had found this site before I spent so much.

My name is chase, I'm 23 and have been smoking for about 6 years. Not as long as most of you I'm sure but smoking is a tough habbit to kick reguardless of age or time spent doing it. I too started with the. Cheap ecigs from drugmart and gass stations and then purchased a blu cig to keep myself off anologs, it worked for a few weeks and then I went back to smoking because it was a hassle to keep going. My interest, however, was still in large part intact.

The second time I went for it I did it the right way. I got a monstrosity of a mod and put down big money for it and the supplies I would need for 3 months. All in all I spent about $400 to avoid the real thing. I now have a provari and just ordered my s and s atom rebuildable atomizer. The more money I throw at this the more dedicated I become. It works because I want it to and because of the effort I have put into learning all about it. Teach yourselves, read, become interested and say that your health is worth more than a pack of smokes.

i never started with a mistake because i did my research before my first order and i am a electronic tec. so i started with something cheap and got everything i needed to build a mod. now i have 3 mods and a twist for my needs. that only mistakes i have made is on my juices as of right now. i have mostly cartos 10 of them but also have 2 ce3's and my 1 atty. my first juice was not all that good but got me though till i got more. then on my 2nd juice order i got another i didn't like to much but mixed it with my first one and now i like it. the mixed 2 made it nice and smooth minty menthol and when i run out of it i will mix them 2 together again. so now i am getting into the diy juices just did my first order from Wizard Labs and hope i can make some good juices out of what i get

Congrats on quitting. :toast:

it works well but I have to constantly puff on it to get my fix.

sounds like you may need to up the amount of nicotine. you didn't say what mg you were using. I smoked cigars before vaping, and started with 24mg. switched to 18mg after a few weeks.

have to constantly switch bats out and keep it in my mouth at all times.

I haven't used the volt, but I here really good things about it if you need or want the a cig look-a-like. if that's not important, an ego or ego clone will give you better batt life.

Don't wake up with gross mouth after using my e-cig.

 good luck

So Far my only mistake was not starting this sooner. I don't have any mistakes to really talk about.
I was given great advice by my cousin who researched this topic to death.
I started with an ego c twist with variable voltage. Got the 650 mah battery and also a 1000 mah battery. ordered a bunch of boge cartos, tank cartos, clearomizers, drip tips. and Im easing in to it. I started the week off just using drip tips to find the juice that I like. once I found what I liked I started to use a boge and now Im on to a clearomizer.

Im thankful for all the great advice I've received. Maybe I can take some of my cigar money and put it towards a new boat! lol.

Get your wife a girly setup from thevaporgirl.com once she gets into it too it will be easier for you both to switch over! Good luck and welcome to ECF! :)

I'm really happy I stuck with it! looks like I might have 3 more people getting off the analogs now. This was the easiest quit and I've quit 3 times before. With the e-cig I don't even miss it!

Peace

Thats great, I am looking forward to helping out my smoker friends, mainly my wife (we have both tried to quit off and on at least once a year for the last 8 years, used it all too meds, patches, the works).

I guess that would be one of my fails, I keep telling people to get the disposable ones and give them to their smoker friends, not great advice due to the fact that I dont know much yet and should not be telling everyone to check it out till I know enough to set them up with something that will work great. O well I like to hit the ground running and tend to be overzelous at the start.

And to Wabbeln, you are right I have learned that the disposables have a much higher nic content than the blu pack. Why on earth would the sell "cheep" disposables that would make me think this will work and then sell a total kit that dosn't even provide the option to order the same level once you become a committed customer? They will still work for now, and I will always pack em on vacation from now on as a last resort back up since I can pick up a 5 pack at almost any drug store.

O well, I am pricing out my ego twist now, was looking at the lava tube starter kit, not a bad price and it looks real nice, but I am probably going to go with the twist now cause I can put together something with 2 bats (so I can leave one home with the wife and maybe she will use it when she gets the craving) for around the same price, plus enough people here and on ut seem to like it quite a bit.

Success for close to a year. Started with disposables for a couple weeks, no intention of quitting cigarettes yet I cut my smoking in half in those two weeks. Ordered the Greensmoke kit, stopped smoking a week later. Ditched the Greensmokes for an ego kit - which I should've just started with in the beginning. Now, two provaris, an ego twist, to ego batts., and a GGTS on order. Not to mention all the tanks, drip tips, attys, cartos, juices, etc. Loving it!

Tips! Find a voltage and an Atty or carto in a proper resistance and a tasty juice that works best for YOU. That's all there is to it. I've gone the variable voltage route and keep going back to my GLV2 5 volt with standard resistance 510 or IO6 atties and VG heavy juices. The best thing you can do is read EVERYTHING on this forum and pick your stuff. Google yer choices; research reviews (not on the vendors site); and try not to spend as much as you did on analogs. Congrats to you new folks! It only gets better, you can trust me I smoked for forty years and it killed my mom.

I wouldn't say that. One less cigarette smoked is a victory. If starting with disposables will get you started, then it's good advice. Once you've been at it for awhile, you can give your impressions of what works and why you think so.

I have a couple of twists. A 900mah, and a 650mah. Those are my go to batteries. The 900 lasts me about 3/4 of a day, and the 650 about 1/3 of a day. When looking at batteries 100mah=1 hour. so, higher mah will equal longer battery life. Since you're going to leave one of your batteries at home, look into another charger too. Check out the deals and steals thread. vendors are always running some sort of special.

Just though of another success: no smoke blowing into my eyes and burning them, it happens when ever I would mess around with a cig hanging from my mouth so I could have both hands free, or when the wind blew in a backwards direction.

Just ran into the wife sneaking a cig, was able to pass on it altogether, so this stuff is doing its job.

As for your advide Wabbeln, I am going to use a 1000 mah battery for work, my normal routine was about 2 or 3 on the drive both too and from, and 4 - 6 at work, so I hope it will make it that far. I have already decided on getting a third battery. I am now wading through all the information on this site preparing for the big jump. The problem is every time I turn around there is something that seems safer or better than what I am looking at.

I guess I have to just make the plunge and get something ordered before tomorrow so it can process and ship ASAP. I will always be able to reuse my 510 compatible stuff if I don't like it
