I am a relatively new vaper. I was a 2 pack a day analog smoker for 28 years. A colleague at work intro'd me to vaping and it's been a mild (to severe) obsession since. It's taken some time and more than a little research and money to get the right setup that meets or surpasses the feeling of smoking a traditional cigarette since. I find I feel guilty when I fall "off of the wagon" and smoke an analog which, thankfully, is not very often. Analogs have become the less satisfying of the two now at this point, but sometimes the vape just still doesn't hit that same "good, old, trusted friend" spot that a cigarette does. Anyone experience the same thing? If so, how do you personally combat it?

Welcome to ECF tidayo137.

I think it come in time and finding the setup/flavors that work best for you.
Maybe NETs or WTAs.
Maybe higher nic for times you're likely to crave a cigarette.

I can tell you about my last smoke.
Pack a day for 16 years. I had been vaping about 2 months and was solely vaping, except when out drinking with friends (especially the guy that smoked my brand) I would bum 1 or 2.

We were playing poker, their kids were out of town so they were smoking inside. I bummed one, felt bad about it, made myself really taste it. Disgusting. Put it out after a couple puffs, picked up vape. Delishous. I vaped for awhile, eventually another cigarette craving. Fine, relit the one I had. Disgusting. Vaped, yum! This repeated several times till I smoked the cig down to the .... by the end of the night. After 6/7 relights, that cig was truly horrid and not at all satisfying while my vape still tasted delishous.

I have honestly not been remotely tempted to smoke since that night over a year ago.
Good luck finding what works for you.

(I still primarily use tobacco flavors when drinking).

I've been vaping for a year and I still struggle from time to time with craving cigarettes. I think I'm craving all the other toxins in the cigarettes that aren't in E liquids. I have given in a couple times to analogs but they tasted nasty and made me feel sick. When I'm struggling with vaping over analogs I remind myself of why I quit, how much better my breathing is, and that the tightness in my chest is gone.

When the urge for a cig hits I just say to myself " this too shall pass"! So, I sit on my hands and wait it out. I also use 18mg/ml. which helps. When I cut down from 24mg/ml I had some heebie jeebies and wanted a smoke, so I just vaped more. Try explaining that to someone, quit smoking and vape more than I ever smoked. I sometimes like the smell of cigs and sometimes it is yucky! Good luck to you!

I would do the same thing as mountailgirl. I feel like I have gained much more will-power and patience with vaping. When I want a cig, I think of all the investment and time i've put into vaping and the satisfaction I get from it and say "nah, blowing a huge, tasty cloud would be way better!!!" Oh and there ARE good products out there, don't be discouraged by crap from gas stations or smoke shops.

vape on folks, today marks 89 days and 17 hrs for me CIG FREE!!! Also, my vape allowance to this point has equaled what I would have spent on cigs. My purchases these days are coils and liquids.

I quit cold turkey when I made the switch and it was three or four months before I felt like having an analog for old times sakes. I don't even buy packs anymore though, which is probably a big help when it comes to thinking I might want to try an analog again. As of now, cigarettes taste so disgusting after vaping good, sweet flavors for so long that it just doesn't even seem appealing to me anymore.

I just know that smoking analogs is bad for me. My doctor showed me my better test results. My dentist doesn't know that I switched, but my gums are suddenly much stronger and better. Outside of the medical, I enjoy my new hobby.

Whenever someone feels the urge of a cigarette, just vape. Cigs are disgusting.

I have been vaping for 5 years and every once in a while I still get a craving for an analog. The last time was just the other day. I was under a lot of stress because of work and I reeeaaallllyyyy wanted a cigarette. But I pulled out my 18 mg juice (normally vape 3-6 mg) and chain vaped for about 15 minutes. It also helped that as I sat there repeating "I want a cigarette...I want a cigarette..." my son kept saying "no you don't" lol. I don't know if those cravings will ever go away but so far I have managed to get through them.

Grimwald says it well.

However, don't beat yourself up - just remember the cigarettes you DON'T smoke - those are your victories. I was smoking and vaping for about a month before I finally told myself that I wasn't going to spend any more money on cigarettes. I have thought about having a cigarette on many occasions, but I have been fortunate and not acted on it. However, that's just *ME*.

Hang in there - you're finding your own "sweet spot". Already, you can tell how much less palatable the cigarettes taste - let that be your guide :)

Cold turkey three months ago. Bought my ecig and still have the half-pack of smokes left -- stuck that pack up on the pantry shelf. I had tried three times before in the past couple years, using ecigs, and just couldn't do it. Not sure why it worked this time but it did. No cravings at all. I like looking at that half pack sitting there on the shelf knowing that I'll never take one out again. Hang in there -- sometimes it just clicks and until it does, keep trying and don't beat yourself up.
