After 3 tries, I have successfully mixed up my first working batch of juice!!

For now it is only VG, nicotine and water, but I have flavors on the way and the unflavored VG isn't all that bad once you get used to it!

My successful recipie (with vapor production similar to V4L prefilled cartos):

359 Drops VG
133 Drops 36 mg/ml VG nic juice from americaneliquidstore
108 drops distilled water

Many thanks to Scubabatdan for his handy .xls calculator. No more longhand arithmetic for me :)

That many drops did take me almost 30 minutes to count! It made about half of a 60ml bottle's worth.

I used Scubabatdan's calculator - see the top sticky post on this board.

LOL you killing me here, I had to jump in. The drops are typically for small batches say 1-2ml, once you have the ratios you want then a 60ml amount you would switch to ml's. Much faster than counting that many drops. If you were diligent in counting the # of drops to = 1 ml, and I alway test by dropping up to 5ml and then diviging by 5 to get the average. When you switch to ml's the amount used will be consistant. Mind you the drops per ml come into play mainly for the flavoring. Everything else should be measured in ml when making larger batches. Just more consistant IMO.

Yes, Scubabatdan, ml measurements would be much more accurate AND efficient. I would be using a graduated cylinder for these measurements if I had one! I also would be testing for nic levels if I had the appropriate materials. All in due time...

And don't worry, Switched, I will provide all the juicy (heh) details as soon as I create a good finished recipie.

My flavors are here! So maybe later today I'll find a good one? I'm going to start by adding flavor drops to the mix I have above.

A baby dropper and ml spoon for medicine works great at measuring 10ml and below, can be found in the childrens medicine isle at walmart or any pharmacy.

Thanks for the tip! I actually went to a pharmacy looking for a few graduated cylinders... they had none. That device might do the trick though.

Congrats on your first e-juice! And I agree, unflavored VG nic juice is fine sometimes. I would suggest getting a syringe for 3-10 mL batches. Fast, easy, and very reproducible.

Syringes/Pipettes/Tweezers : JuicyLiquid.com, DIY E-Liquid and Accessories!

Or as Dan said, there might be something reasonable at the drug store. Some stores will sell you dispensing syringes with blunt needles. Some. Others will get weird about it.

This place also has many various syringes for cheap:

Sign In - Discount Pet Supplies, Pet Supply, Online Pet Supplies

mL are always better than drops, especially when dealing with very high nic juice, like 100 mg. Small variations in volume can mean big variations of nic content in final juice.

Good luck, and have fun with the DIY!

This is what I ment, childrens measuring spoons:

Or these, oral dispensers:

These can be found at just about any pharmacy, walgreen, CVS, Walmart or Target in the Childrens medicine section.

Thanks for all the tips, Kurt!

I did have fun today: I made my first full flavored juice!

Recipie:
22 drops VG 36 mg/ml
60 drops VG 0 nic
18 drops Distilled Water
2 drops FlavourArt Lemon
2 drops FlavourArt Lime
1 drop FlavourArt Orange

Result:
8 mg/ml Froot Loops flavor?

It isn't what I set out to make, but it is kinda tasty.

Nice! You are clearly into the chef-side of vaping already! And the proportions seem ok if the drops are the same size between juices. looks like about 15% water, which is about right for VG juices. Hard to tell though without vaping it a while. Too much and it will not vape well. Too little seems great initially with billows of vapor, but ends up clogging the atty more after a bit. You start to learn to judge this by how the juice flows in the bottle.

Keep beamin' in that vapor funk from the mother ship...in yo airhole. Maybe you will design a new Flashlight mod! Owww, we want the funk...gotta have the funk...:D

If using mostly PG, is water necessary? Or is the PG enough to thin down amounts of VG less than 25%?
If you read correctly, he is only using VG and no PG what so ever. Distilled water will not change the taste of the liquid whilst alcohol will.

However, a 75/25 PG to VG is a good ratio

I just created my first menthol recipe today using that ratio. Good TH and Vapour. 5 drops Flavourart artic mist per ml in 24mg pg tobacco.

Those who have smoked cameo and Craven a, this is darn close.

Thank you. I did read correctly, which is why I asked if the water was necessary for a mostly PG liquid with a little VG, because that's what mine will be.

Most people that use a 20% VG ratio do not have to add distilled water as they add 10-15% flavoring which helps to thin out the VG. I personally pre cut all my VG in bulk with 20% distilled water. Havent had a problem with to thin or to thick juice yet, going on 8 months now :)
