I haven't been around here for a while as I've been quite satisfied with my cartotank setup and haven't been interested in any new products.

However, my fiancee wants me to purchase a kit for her 78 year-old grandfather who has chain-smoked his entire life and is actually in reasonably good health considering. He and her grandmother have recently moved into a new retirement home that doesn't allow smoking indoors and no balcony.

So far, I'm thinking of getting him some eGo twist or similar batts and some single coil cartos and just have him drip to refill the cartos as a tank may be too fiddly for his old hands to handle. I know stardust-type setups are also quite no-nonsense, but I've never had a good experience with their performance, myself. However, I haven't tried one since the Viva Nova first came out.

Are there any new no-nonsense products appropriate for the elderly you can recommend?

As well, I ordered him a few bottles of 36mg juice. I hope this isn't too strong, but he's an indoor chain smoker of regular smokes and has been for....oh...65-70 years or so. Is 36 still too strong for him? I doubt he'll quite smokes, but if he can cut down the amount of times he has to make the trek outside, it'll definitely help.

geeeeeze, 36... i would go 24 tops....

nic thins out the blood, i wouldn't recommend 36 to anyone. especially not at that age.

In door smoker.... just hacking away... not tech savy.

keep it at low res cartos on a regular ego.... twist may confuse them, but that is at your discretion.

i would suggest auto if that is a possibility. at that age, the arthritis may be kicking in, and pushing buttons would not be comfortable after some time.

:toast: to good health.

Yeah, perhaps 36 was a bit of overkill. I only ordered him 2 15ml bottles of that, I plan on getting him another couple bottles from somewhere else soon, perhaps I'll go with 24 so he has a choice.

My only concern about a low res on a regular ego is how annoyingly tight boges are for filling and drip refilling......and 1.7 smoktechs are too low for an ego. I was thinking 2.7ohm smoktech single coils on a twist is a good compromise. At that res, he should be fine just leaving the twist all the way up at 4.8 and forgetting it.

Good point on the auto. Perhaps I'll get him a small auto and some LR to see if he'd prefer that too.

for me, 1.8ohm h-coil cartos are what i have experiance with, so that really all i could have commented on.
but, if you have a sit down, and explain the twist, he should be fine.

36 is really high, but if that's what his body wants, then he will crave.
bring both or some PG/VG mix to cut if it's too strong.

on refilling, i really cant comment. something in the lines of a vivi might help, but cartos are just the simplest "throw away" option.
it's really how comfortable the user is with either option.

+1 o nfarmer-brick's comment of a REDDS kit.
lightest/smallest 808 i've used, may make for an easier transition to an analog equivalent.
i know how them older folks don't like change.... i still cant get my dad off the stinkies :(

I too think 36 nic maybe to strong, Plz make sure no maguire heart problems as if he vapes the way he smokes he could be in BIG trouble. We all i think over vape at first :?: So a 24 nic would be good to have one of them as well.
If he don't mind the size a eGo C as long as using a button is not a prob, would work just fine i would add a Kanger T2 as tip size is bigger easy to open, and easier to fill and not fluid. As the tip sits high on the Kanger T2. Kanger T3 may be a lot of a problem with flooding IMHO, some love bottom feeders some hate them i am one of the haters. I had 3 different ones spent more time with flooding and loss of liquid then i did vaping. My :2c:

Another vote for 36 being way to strong. I smoked regular smokes for 35+ years and 24 mg juice was fine for me.

I suggest the Kanger T2 also, because they are so easy to fill. Dripping into a carto is a PITA for older eyes. As well as more fiddling. That on a 650 eGo battery.

Because the auto batteries have to be charged so often, I think it may frustrate a chain smoker. To tell you the truth, a 650 wont last all that long either, but I think a good starting point. If he's in good shape, the button shouldn't be problem, they're easy to push.

Another reason I suggest Kanger T2 for older folks is because the female fitting has a more stable base for filling.

I too think that 36mg is probably to strong. I smoked for 46 years and the last few at a carton a week and I started at 18mg and had to lower to 15 right away. Once I got over the needing it to look like a cigarette and got my 650 mha Twists I actually quit smoking and was not even intending to when I started vaping. My original plan was to just use the vaping to help me cut down

Now I like to research and don't have a problem with figuring out how to make things work for me. However, my best friend who has been trying to quit for that last 3/4 years since she has COPD cannot be bothered with any fiddling. She just turned 66 and there is no way she would even consider trying something like a twist.

Now - I bought myself an eRoll to take with us to Vegas at the beginning of April - now that was something she was willing to try and in fact she had me order her a kit (said she couldn't figure out how to order :() that she has now been using for two weeks and says she really likes it

Anyway - just my :2c: and good luck and I hope you can find something that will work for the grandfather.

IF he will still be smoking outdoors, I'd go lower on the nic at first.
I dislike high maintenance and fussing, so I completely agree with a T2 or T3 with an ego battery.
The atty's are larger than the vivi nova's for easy replacement too. They also just look better fitted
to an ego. For the amount of juice they hold, compared to a carto, they are a better investment.
I also suggest using one first, so you can easily explain the refill, replacement process.
Good luck.

Thank you for all of your suggestions. I think it's too late to change the 36mg order I made already, but it's only 2 15ml bottles, so no big deal. I actually have some 12mg of the two flavours I ordered, so I can probably cut them with some of that to lower the nic a bit. And I'll definitely just grab some 24mg for him later.

The consensus seems to be that a Kanger T2 or T3 is a good idea. What is the difference between them?

Edit: Emailed Heather at HHV and she's going to change them to 24, sweet.

Your sincemylastcigarette calculator is crazy.....is that using Native smoke prices??

LOLLLL how did you guess. Was buying loose tobacco and using the filter tubes from Rama near Orillia. Now if only they'd start selling juice and vape gear. Have only saved about $600.00 but it was more about my health.

Somewhere out there
24 maybe too high for all chain vaping, I say 24 for morning, 18 for after lunch and 12 for after supper. He can overdose on high nic if he is going to be chain vaping as well. Halo G6 and Halo Triton are great for new users, I would say the Triton batts will last longer and a bunch of cartos. They have some clearos too but probably too fiddly to start with. Have him use a drip tip so he can add 3 drops of juice for every 10 puffs for so so he doesn't burn cartos. Good luck! bnrk

I seriously doubt he'll actually quit smoking completely. If he just doesn't have to go outside as often to smoke and can fill it in with some vaping we'd all be happy.

Thought so....I could never handle drum or natives....blech.

Also, 15ml per week? I think I'm a really heavy vaper considering others' posts I've seen. I'm at pretty much 5-7mls per day.....Though It's hard to tell because I take 9 DCTs around with me and constantly switch them...

LOLLL when I first began vaping was using 36 mg X 50-60 ml per week. My plan is eventually quit vaping completely but I'm in no rush- when the time is right. When I was at 12 mg X 25 ml per day went out of town overnite and forgot my gear. Wasn't that bad at all but I will admit I ate lottsa junk food :D

As said a Kanger T2 tip size is bigger easy to open, and easier to fill and not fluid. As the tip sits high on the Kanger T2, Also mentioned it has a female end so can sit flat on table while filling or opening liquid. As well as the middle post sits high so makes it also easy to replace the coil/wick

Kanger T3 may be a lot of a problem with flooding IMHO, some love bottom feeders some dislikes them i am one of the one who dislikes them. I had a Kanger T3 and 2 different ones spent more time with flooding and loss of liquid then i did vaping. It was extremely frustrating and though it in the garbage same day !! :nah:

Put back on my Kanger T2 and have been happily vaping that and my Viva Nova Mini. Its is a little more work with a male end for elderly as filling may get some liquid in center as it sits low, but easy blow out and its all good for me.
