So for those of you who found this forum prior to ordering your first e-cig I just want to make one suggestion. By finding this website I'll assume that you have enough info to be purchasing a quality PV so think positively and order a bottle of e-liquid along with it. Last thing you want to do is be in my current position of having to ration your current cartridges and supplement with analog's until you get the rest of your supplies! Can't even tell you how bummed I am every time I spark up an analog and honestly not because I'm trying to quit but because I genuinely have preferred vaping from the first day I got my 510! (after 24 years of analogs no less)

Incidentally I must have called 50 local smoke shops yesterday looking for one that sells e-liquid and while many sell cartridges for various brands there was not one that sold 510 cartridges or e-liquid!!!!!:(:(:(

I'm still pretty new to vaping myself, but if you are that desperate to vape instead of light up an analog, wouldn't you be able to take the filler out of pretty much any cartridge and use in your 510 cartridges? Sure it's expensive and a little work, but any reason why it wouldn't work?

Unfortunately I'm new enough to this that I'm not sure if that could be done without losing most of the liquid or not. I suppose it could. I'm just whining though cuz I should have 60ml of two different nicotine strengths by tomorrow afternoon. I do however regret not ordering a bottle sufficiently large enough to carry me through to the next order upon my initial purchase so thought I might suggest that to others.

That seems to be a recurring theme in the posts here: Stock up!
Folks who JUST order a starter kit seem to go into thinking it's like buying
a whole carton of smokes... it should last a while. Problem is, without any
experience vaping you just can't know how much liquid you'll go through-
not to mention equipment failures, ect (replacement atomizers, batteries, etc).

Once I finally decide on what I'm getting I'll be ordering quite a bit to make sure
I have enough time to really get a feel for what I'm getting into.

I guess I got lucky or was just more determined to use ecig only.
My first order was four batteries with four atys., and two 10ml flavored 24mg. worked perfect. left enough time to reorder. I came home home from work one day the package was already here. I opened it up and haven't had a cancer stick since. I think it's been 14 weeks now. very determined not to smoke any real cigarets. I even ordered a huge order of Juice just in case it was banned in California. good luck and dont give in.

To follow up on your question. Im using a 901. from vapor kings. this seems to be a very reliable unit. not fancy, just dependable. the filter is easy to use. I went to the store and got some fish filter foam to replace the old foam inside last weekend. this stuff holds more juice than when it was new. I've cleaned the atty's a few times. lemon juice and hot water rinse.

E-cigs ARE a little different than analogs. I don't know how anybody can pre-determine how they'll use them or how many carts or liquids they'll need, in addition to the "starter" kit, to get through a day or week or month.

As a 40+ year 2-3 pack 100mm full flavor smoker, I had no idea.

I ordered the V4L kit, based on a friend's recommendation (he'd tried a couple of other brands) and all the info I learned here on the forum.

Steve (Milin -- President of V4L) called me the day after I placed my order. He's renowned on the forum for his personal service. He just asked a couple of questions about my smoking habits and "customized" my kit for me with what he thought were appropriate nicotine levels. Then he mentioned, "You're gonna want to order some extra cartomizers."

I thought, "He's trying to sell me more stuff." But no. He was right.

He sent a lot of free extras with my initial kit -- extra carts, extra liquid refills.

After a few days I realized how much I was vaping, what the various nicotine strengths felt like. Tried my hand at refilling (per helpful YouTUBE videos). Easy.

THEN I knew what to reorder. For ME, anyway.

Next, I guess: How many times, based on MY usage, can I refill a cart?

The rechargeable batteries, apparently, last about 3 years.

The V4L Ultimate Kit seems thoroughly thought-out. Heavy-duty portable rechargeable case. Heavy-duty carrying case. Passthrough e-cig (connects to USB, requires no battery, great for vaping at computer). A variety of carts and liquids to try. Wall recharger.

Bottom line?

I haven't smoked an analog since I got the kit. Don't want one. Saving $4 (at least) a day. Same thorough satisfaction. No withdrawal.

What's not to like?

I think this is a good suggestion. Like the OP, I didn't order enough when I started. Spending the money that I did was a sacrifice. Its easy to forget how much we spend when we were smoking because it disappears gradually. With buying e-cig products, it takes a nice chunk right off the bat and that's scary. You only have to get caught without juice or carts and end up having to smoke regular cigs once to make you realize you have to order more stuff at one time.

And like another poster mentioned, you don't know how quickly you'll go through your supplies until you start using them for a few days and get a sense of how long it'll last. For me, I now know that I will run out of 30ml of liquid in about 15 days. I didn't need to use the whole bottle to realize this, just a few days, you can kind of guesstimate how much you are using daily.

I didn't get enough stuff with my first purchase, but when I ordered for my sister, I ordered her the standard stuff, plus the stuff I've come to realize I needed myself (such as a PCC and extra liquid). When she gets her order, she'll be set and will just have to be aware of when she needs to order more juice.

Buying all this stuff adds up, so I understand firsthand why at first you don't want to go "overboard" and get all this "unnecessary stuff".

I'm a newbie myself, but here are some suggestions based on things I've already learned:

Get extra batteries. If you plan on hanging out at someone else's house, or you have a job (you lucky people) or are going to be away from the wall charger that came with your kit, get extra batteries.

Get a PCC. Again, if you are going to be aware from the wall charger that comes standard with the kit, you will need this, especially if you have a 510 like I do. Wish I'd realized this before, but have corrected this and ordered one.

Get liquid with your first order, and not just 5-10ml. Five cartridges will not last you long. The average usage of liquid is 2 ml a day (from what I've heard on the forum - I use about the same myself). Either get yourself samplers, or get yourself at least 30 ml of something you are pretty sure you'll like. If 30 ml lasts around 15 days, you will want to get more than that.

So, bottom line: get extra batteries, extra liquid and a PCC. Others on the forum have suggested getting extra atomizers. You probably should get those too, but if money is tight, the extra atomizers might be able to wait (if you got 2 attys already). They are supposed to last from a few weeks to a few months, but you never know if one might take a dive on you early. In good conscience, I should recommend that you have more than 2 attys, even though I don't yet because the money is just not there for it...in a couple more weeks, so lets hope my attys don't fail.

Alright that's it.

Fluid usage is mostly dependent on any cart mods you use. Going from polyfill to the blue foam plug I increased consumption three-fold. I always leaked with poly and never leak now, which means I am actually GETTING more nicotine into my system. Although, it is worth noting, I dropped from 36mg/ml on the poly to 12mg/ml on the blue foam plug and get better hits and more nicotine. It all comes together with time and experience. There should be a "golden rule" sticky, things you should NOT do.

I am really interested in using an ecig but not sure where to start. I have been trying to quit for about 3 months but I miss the action and taste part of the smoking more than the nicotine so I end up cheating:(

Why not start by reading the stickies in the New Members' forum? Here's one:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ed-questions-about-electronic-cigarettes.html

There's a ton of information on this site. I know it can be confusing at first but it's worth having a good read not just to learn what you might like but more importantly what to avoid. Good luck! :)
