So now that the whole family is on board with the switch to ecigs (me for about a year, and my brother for about 6months, and my mom is in the process of switching) my dad actually considering trying ecigs, with the possibility of permanently switching!

This is huge. My dad is 68 has been smoking since he was I don't know, 10. seriously forever. And here's the hard part he smokes.... UNfiltered Camels.
Im guessing maybe a pack or 2 a day. In general you really do only end up smoking about 1/2 of an unfiltered cigarette, because there's no filter to hold on to. So I'm not really sure what that all converts to in terms of regular cigarettes..

so here's where we are. he took a hit of an ego with a 24mg 50/50 pg/vg carto and didn't get much of a throat hit. Which is expected I guess, because of 60 years smoking unfiltereds, you'd probably need a blowtorch to get a throat hit.
But he's still willing to order an ecig with a more appropriate cartridge or whatever for his situation. And I would think after giving it a more thorough attempt he'll be willing to experiment more..

So in order to make his first real attempt a good one I'm looking for suggestions...BUT he seems to have a few criteria based on what he's seen

1. A pen style more like a regular cigarette, not the ego. Ideally automatic, but we'll probably order a manual version so he can really try both types.

2. Enough power for a good throat hit

3. EASY. Dripping is probably not going to happen. cartomizers that he can just screw on are the only way I see him sticking to this.

4. Mods... I have no idea what all the mods do. but if there is a one-time simple mod, like buying a high voltage battery, or low resistance this or that, that's cool. but anything more is probably not going to happen.

I can fill the cartomizers for him, if there's a high nic juice that isn't available pre filled. but that's about the extent of how much effort has to be involved with using it, or else I can't seem him sticking to it.

So, anyone have any suggestions in terms of.

Ecigs:types, voltages etc

Cartomizers:types, brands etc

juice:
High nic (how high is available? And where to buy?)
pg/vg ratio
Flavors a very long-term smoker might like (think, tar)

Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to ecf...
You can get some ejuice in 36mg. Look at vaper4life.com for prefilled cartomizers that screw onto the battery....However, the type of ecigs that look like a cig does not offer enough power to produce a real-like cig experience......would he mind something that looks like a sharpie or a small cigar
?

:)

thanks for the reply
Yeah something like a cigar would work. I think he's trying to avoid something that's too elaborate. He's seen our passthrough egos, and we don't use the cones on them, so they look all metal and tool-like. so I think he's trying to avoid that as they look too elaborate for him.
I think he's like me in that I started out with the blu, because it looks just like a cigarette, down to the pack. and once you get a feel for what's going on, and that it might actually satisfy you, then you can venture out a bit more to get something more powerful/long-term. He may very well just get an ego type down the line, but I guess I'm looking for something to get him started. (The blu is so weak he would abandon this venture immediately, so I need to step it up)

Maybe if you were to put the cone on the ego he would be more tempted to use it? vapor4life also has ecig that look like a cig but they are not very powerful, but have a better hit than the Blu did(one of my first also). For no fuss, no mess, that would be a good place to start....

if you are willing to look at mods, then the "pen style" is kind of out of the question.
my guess is that he wants a no muss no fuss kind of unit, looks like a cig, gives a tremendous th and battery that lasts all day...well, that is a dream and you can only see it at night after you close your eyes.
i have some suggestions for you:
bloog maxx fusion (i own one) 102 mm battery which is little long but gives you best battery life out of the analog look a likes.
bloogs are regulated to 3.7 which means you get the same hits every time, until the battery goes dead.
you can get BMF cartos from bloogs site but i recommend 808 signature series cartos from elitevaporworks.com 9 bux for 5 cartos and free shipping on EVERY order.

my second suggestion is a riva 750 or 900 mah battery with boge 2.0 cartos (that lower resistance will give you more throat hit compared to 3.0 carto.

the riva is the size of a small cigar and works very well (i have that one too)

(nhaler.com also sells bmf clones and cartomizers. i think they are slightly better prices than bloogs)

You're right about showing him the ego w/ the cone...but I think he's already kind've dismissed it for now. First impressions are a ..... :) I'll definitely give it another shot tho. I would like to know if there's a decent powered automatic out there though.

but as far as the ego's looks goes, I saw pics of the "screwdriver model" ecig (same thing as ego, just no cone, all metal) and was like oh that's too hardcore for me. but the ego was all sleek and nice so I went w/ that. But once the ego arrived and the cone came off... Yeah it's def. the same thing as the "screwdriver" and I still like it :)
But my dad has older habits than me, which are harder to break, so I think he'll need something a bit closer to a cig to give it a thorough attempt.

Hi....your dad sounds like mine, though mine has now passed away. I bet my dad smoked at least 3 packs a day. I'm trying to think of what I would get my dad. He loved gadgets, so I think initially he wouldn't mind dripping into something like a Riva or Ego. I don't think my dad would have wanted the fuss with the foam fillers, etc. I'm not very familiar with mods, but after the novelty of dripping wore off, I think my dad would want a mod. I think he would feel so much better being off the analogs, that he wouldn't care what his PV looked like. Just my thoughts about my own dad -

If you go with a cigarette sized kit, get the cheapest you can find. It's highly unlikely to work with someone that smokes that much and most likely nothing in standard voltage is going to cut it for throat hit either. The best you can hope for from a cigarette sized kit is that it'll open his eyes to the possibilities. So, don't spend any money on it. Get a KR808D1 manual battery kit at myvaporstore or something. When he complains about the throat hit and having to change the batteries all the time then you can look for what he really needs.

Indeed. You're dad sounds a bit more handy than mine though :) But yes I think once he gives it a go he won't care about looks, and will just want something that doesn't make him go back to regular smokes! Because after a few days analogs really do taste gross, but the nicotine cravings don't dissipate on the same level. Although at least for me, the nicotine need did decrease as well. I can easily go most of the day w/o vaping. Something I could never do when smoking.

Mickey has an excellent and very practical idea. - at first the best you can hope for is something that will open his eyes. Then move on to what he really needs. I agree.

I agree with this. I don't think he should pass up the Ego see'ing it without the cone and thinking it's elaborate because since you have one and know this as well, just explain it to him and show him that little cone just slides on and screws in. I'm sure after see'ing how simple it is he will understand. I just broke it down to my family by taking the three pieces apart and saying "This is just the tip that you take a puff from, this is the atomizer and all it does is turn the liquid into vapor, and this is the battery that powers the device". That's it, and they completely understood. Have a sit down with him and explain it and hopefully he may be enticed with the ego, because it's my first PV and I am in love with it as I'm sure you guys are too!

Now I'll show you what I almost recommended but, that would have been cruel. :)

Check this out.

I couldn't bring myself to do it though. At least, if they go with a KR808D1, there's a chance. :D

What's scary is I've seen posts from people that paid $80 for that same kit.

I've been using a GoGo and the Bloog for the last month or so and I'm really loving the Bloog. It's got great vapor and is really easy to get a good hit on once you get the hang of it. My poor GoGo has been feeling very unloved lately.

You might want to check out this PBusardo review:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...eview-contest-volt-e-cig-smokeless-image.html

The Volt e-cig is identical AFIK to the Bloog, and is cheaper. The cartos are identical, I've used both. In a few weeks they are supposed to be getting in more batteries and better tasting cartos. I think they are running a 20% off sale right now, coupon code SPRING20. As soon as they get in their new juice and battery colors, I'll be converting from Bloog to the Volt.

i smoked reds and a fair share of handrolled Burley non filtered during the times in the day when reds weren't strong enough.

I suggest a tube mod and dripping 36mg juice. It will give him the nic he needs and will help him focus on when he really needs it. Egos and Rivas are great but I would puff on them all day long. He needs a heavy dose of nic to get him away. I loved luckies non filters when I could find them myself. There's Turkish and latakia blends out there in 36mg. First time I whacked down a hit it made me loopy. I've since started to cut my 36mg stuff with PG and vg juice and am down to about 20mg. Then you could turn him onto a riva or ego tanke

Tell him I ate reds for breakfast for 40 years, tried to quit for 20 using every methods out there and now I'm off. This thing works.
He can do it. I was convinced I was the only person that could never quit. In reality, I didn't, just switched brands that's all. God Bless
