suggestions on RBA's & coil building

Hello everyone. I've been vaping since January and feel that it's finally time to get a RBA and still making coils. Unfortunately, my left arm is paralyzed and building coils will be a little trickier than it would for most. I have a VaporShark DNA 30 on the way (I'm in Miami, so I gotta support locals) and will be buying a Kayfun or Russian clone, because those seem to be most people's recommendations for getting into RBA's.

When it comes to wrapping my own coils, I was thinking of using a fly-tying vise to help me out. Do any of you have any suggestions or ideas?

I would probably advise against the kayfun as much as I love mine. Getting the leads around the screws and tightening them down would be quite challenging with one hand. A dripper of some sort with holes in the posts would be a lot easier. Actually wrapping the coil shouldn't be too difficult as long as you have something to hold the drill bit and one end of the kanthal.

Answered your own question IMO the kayfun is the top RBA easy to build on and vapes insanely good. Having one arm/hand is tuff with any build. A vice holding your drill bit to wind the coil around may be useful I wish you all the best, I believe if there is a will there is a way. I'm sure you will find the answer

definitely holes through the posts, and may i suggest getting a rda with a split center post such as the Helios, Brass Monkee or Rajui .. it has really helped me and and age and poor eyesight are my stumbling blocks.... best of luck and vape on Bro.

plant, I was thinking of getting a fly-ting vise (used for tying flies for fly-fishing) to hold the drill bits and kanthal for me.

epicdoom, you're right. When there's a will, there's a way. Since I lost the use of my arm, I haven't let that stop me from doing anything. Like they say, necessity is the mother of invention, and I, like anyone else in my situation, figure out ways to get things done.

2naphish, thank you for the suggestions. I"ll look into those RDAs. I've watched a bunch of builds on the Kayfuns and Russian 91% and feel confident that I could use them, but I'm open to all suggestions, because anyone that has built their own coils and used an RDA before has far more experience than myself, so thank you.

very true a hole through post type atty would be easiest, but its not as hard wrap around the binding posts on the kayfun as some think. I usually pre-bend the first lead into shape so it hooks on and can be tightened down rite away. The other is just a simple wrap.
I figured you were the type that wouldn't let any limitations slow you down just by you wanting to do some coil builds. I salute anyone who refuses to be limited. I have 2 buddies from the war who have refused to let limits dictate there life.

As far as refusing to be limited, I'm sure you would do the same. I certainly can"t play football anymore (I played in college), but I'm now 31 years old, so I highly doubt I would be playing any sort of full-pads/contact football now a days anyway...unless I was in the NFL, and I can assure you, my experience riding pine for UCF let me know that wasn't going to happen, lol. Anyway, after the about a year of losing the use of my arm, the self-pity train came to a halt and the "find a way to get it done" mentality took over. Now, I like the additional challenge of doing things even better. It certainly feels more rewarding, and that feeling is hard to beat

Your a trooper Brother and your rite, I wouldn't let it slow me down. I cant say I understand or even know how I'd feel about it initially, But I for sure know I wouldn't let it slow me down. I'm a physical type person I have to be active busy doing things. I have seen some amazing things done by folks in your position and its heart warming to see them do just as good as an able bodied person. Your an amazing human being, Keep going strong brother your will and desire are great attributes and highly admirable.

I have found that certain Kayfun manufacturers have different building strengths and weaknesses. In short, one of my a Kayfun Lites, I can not build with 28 gauge wire by myself ( or need a vice). I have managed to sidestep the problem by purchasing a SS Rocket V2 from FT. Easiest build for my shakes and old eyesight. I also have an Aqua, dual-coil which is not too bad to build. The Squape is also one to check on. The airflow is an issue on the Squape and flooding also. Almost forgot. The Taifun GT give lots of room to work but can be frustrating getting the wick just right. Hope this helps.

thanks for the replies. Somebody told me about vaping donuts, so I'm going to give those a try. While I'm trying those, I'll start tring to wrap my own coils. I think I'll be able to get it done.

well, I got my VaporShark and absolutely love it!!! I also got a Helios clone and TOBH clone. Wow! The TOBH is big. I also got some Vapin Donuts to use for now until I get a little more practice in building coils. The TOBH is perfect for me or anyone else like me. It's huge size makes it very easy for me to work with, but does look a little ridiculous on a tiny mod like a VaporShark. It would look great on my 134 if it had a beauty ring so that it would sit flush with the 134. I'm not sub-ohm, so the 134 works just fine for me. The Helios clone looks a lot etter on my VaporShark than the TOBH due to it's smaller size. I also got a Kanger Aerotank Mega to use when I'm out and about or at work. I'm pretty impressed by how well it hits. Plenty of vapor and far better taste than any tank I've ever used. Unfortunately, my has a leaking problem. It was fine the first few days, but then it started. I changed the coil/head and it still does it. The juice is leaking into the bottom chamber where the air flow strip/hole is and where you screw in the coil/head. It's either leaking through the middle of the coil/head or the threading where you screw in the replacement coil/head. Hopefully I can get a replacement from Kanger, because the few days it wasn't leaking, it was excellent, far better than any other tank I've tried, and I've pretty much tried them all

Wow, that is an excellent idea. I'm going to go to Lowes later today to buy some of those screws. That really does look like it will be an excellent way for me to build good, uniform coils. Thanks for the idea and the link.
