In the land of no hills and red dirt
Well, I was able to announce that I was in on the beta of a new product, the Kick by Evolv, on the Super T thread announcing it. Despite being asked on the thread what mod I was using it on, I initially tried to duck the subject: I just don't believe in jumping on a supplier's thread to discuss a competitor's product. Forcedfuel50 from SuperT himself commented that he'd like to know, and complimented my setup. It's nice that some suppliers still have a sense of community and camaraderie instead of unbridled competition.

I had initially thought about Super T mods when I first started vaping, but chose not to go that direction due to their price and unavailability. Eventually, i went with GG's...go figure. Realizing that I had a brief window of opportunity, I was able to connive, beg and nuisance my way into buying a bit of a special edition Precise Plus 18650 mod. A slant top, it is a bit of an oddball, part of a limited run having no vent holes on the side, it looks like the mod to the right of Forced's own avatar. I did buy this mod at full retail price, and am under no sort of obligation to him or Super T as a result of the sale, except to give my honest and unbiased feedback once I'm allowed to publicly discuss my findings at the end of testing. However, there's nothing to keep me from discussing the mod in it's default configuration now.

The Precise Plus is an impossibly small, light and well made 510 stainless steel battery mod made to accept a limited number of mainstream AW 18650 batteries.

Like the rest of the vaping community, I had read other reviews of the Precise, and caught myself thinking ("Duh!") when half of them started describing the fit and finish of the Precise, as very-for lack of a better word-precise. I understand what they meant now. It is so well made that it looks like it's made out of a single piece of metal; my aging eyes can barely make out the top and bottom caps that screw onto the mod. It has a matte silver finish that appears to be resistant to fingerprints and scratches, and a stainless steel recessed, locking switch on the bottom of the mod.

Now, I have to confess that I almost felt a sense of anticlimax and disappointment when I first opened the package this morning. The mod, enclosed in a velvet satchel and accompanied by a bag of spare o-rings and washers, looked too small, light and perfect to be taken seriously as a precision piece of vaping equipment. It almost looked like a prop or well made children's toy. This feeling dissipated entirely by my third hit of the switch.

I also had some reservations about the switch being on the bottom, and concerns about it only being able to accept a comparatively small selection of batteries. Moreover, switching to one battery to another required switching o-rings and adding or subtracting brass washers to the switch. Thankfully, the process is simple and straightforward and took only a little bit of time of effort in even my addled and sleep deprived condition.

Getting used to switch position required a little bit of effort, but I was able to master the action in less than five minutes. Like the rest of the design, the switch is ingeniously designed and made to the point of using it seems intuitive. The same goes for setting and unsetting the locking action.

The switch, as well as the atomizer connection, has a feature that intrigued me the most about this mod: both are covered in what is supposed to be an incredibly rare, precious earth metal, Rhodium, over gold connections. Rhodium is supposed be impervious to heat and oxidation, which means that the switch will never, ever need the routine maintenance that other mechanical switches routinely demand, such as cleaning, polishing, sanding or coating in vaseline or noalox. At most the connections will only need wiping off with a clean piece of cloth if they happen to get covered in juice, or other liquids. And so far, the switch has fired each and every time I've used it, with no exceptions. Not a single misfiring after a whole day of usage. This Super T. secret sauce also appears to deliver a bit more punch than my other mods even using the same battery and atomizer. Impressive. I'm normally swapping batteries by this late in a day of heavy vaping, but don't feel the need to just yet. Fascinating. A few weeks of this may break me of the mod veteran's habit of instinctually holding a mod to my ear and listening to it fire before I attempt to inhale.

You're probably tempted to ask whether the Plus or the Stainless Steel Golden Greek Telescopic System (GGTS) is the better mod. Accordingly, I'm tempted to tell you that: a.) that is an unfair question, and b.) you suck. No two mods are the same, and a statement that one mod is 'better' than the other tells probably more about the declarer's needs, preferences and biases than the rigs themselves. But I'm drawn toward the analogy of comparing the GGTS to a good swiss army knife, and the Precise Plus as a trusted folding penknife. Like the Swiss Army knife, the GGTS is bigger, bulkier, heavier, and thanks to its telescoping action and multi threaded connection, does a larger number of tasks tolerably well. The Precise Plus doesn't do as much, but carries out its limited tasks perfectly. Accordingly, if your priority and preference is to rapidly change your vaping setup more than once a day, the GGTS is probably the vape for you. On the other hand, if you find that despite having a tackle box or two full of gear, you primarily use one type of atomizer and battery throughout the entire day and value reduced weight, size and maintenance, the Precise Plus may better serve your needs. It's a still a bit too early to tell, but I suspect that I may end up treating my GGTS like my Swiss Army knife: I'll never get rid of it, but will probably end up keeping it with my camping supplies until I need it, usually when I go camping. The Precise Plus may end up being my penknife, except it will be a hell of a lot easier to get through a metal detector.

Once I get used to the default configuration, I'll try the Kick on the Precise Plus and see how it compares to the GGTS. But again, I'll have to withhold the results of the comparison until I am notified that testing on that mod has ended.

The PrecisePlus 18650 is sold by Super T Manufacturing for $179.99, if you're lucky enough to find them in stock. More are expected to be released in Mid December.

Behold, I am the Vape Pharaoh!

Thought I would never hold the cup on my chin to do the Pharaoh beard long enough to take the snap!
Oh, and now you know why I'm so reluctant to post pictures of myself these days!

The people that I was able to show the Precise+ to yesterday have seen me come and go with a few mods over the last couple of years. But the common comment seemed to be..."Wow, this thing looks professionally made." Meaning that even the casual observer could instantly identify the great fit and finish of the mod. One, a self-described "biker chick", even stated further that she "couldn't tell that it just came from a machine shop."

I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I came across some information while initially researching the Precise Plus that Super T has its roots in manufacturing high grade aircraft components. And this seems to somehow make sense...an industry that has such exacting tolerances would be a good place to make such a-hate to use this word again, but-precise mod.

I'm going to do nothing but tote the PP today in it's original configuration. Tomorrow will probably be 'fun with adapters' day, where I'll try it with my LR 801's and 901's. The only bad thing about it is that I'm enjoying it so much as is that I'm almost hesitant to try it with the Kick, the reason I originally bought it in the first place. Then again, there are worse problems to have with a mod.

That means a lot coming from you, Rip!

Now, to just take the time and put my toy on my new toy!

P.S.: Starting to appreciate the action of the switch on the P+. I had some sort of hangup that I had to have a finger precisely lined up with the groove on the bottom of the tube mod. Thankfully, this is NOT the case. If you follow the instructions and rig up your plus to match your battery, it doesn't take too much of a depress at all to activate.

I'm starting to appreciate this mod in general the more I use it, which is rather a lot!
