I know there's a great deal of anticipation with the release of "the King" but does anybody else feel that it's somewhat reminiscent of the Chi_You by Mojo?

I can agree with you there. I hope it's not similar in the fact that the chi's are pretty much getting mass produced and losing its value, to me at least. Because I plan on picking up a king mod.

Certainly looks "Inspired" to me, and that's putting it kindly.

More interesting/silly is the marketing put behind this. Seems pretty clear the shop is trying to push this as the new "It" mod.

And I am gonna put this out there, may ruffle some feathers... If you are buying these mods in hopes of long term value, might want to look into investing in the stock market instead. I know full well how much some mods go for on auction or Mod Trader, but we are talking months of data not years. My guess, most if not all these mods will be worth about retail in another year. Maybe less.

in its standard look it most certainly is "inspired" by The Chi-you, but honestly in their "bling" looks it is borderline hideous, but thats is just my opinion, I like its simple and functional.

The Chi-You and this new Vapor King are simple, elegant, basic mech mods like many out there. Some are hyped more than others; the manly equivalent of designer handbags. Again, just my opinion. :)

The is damn good advice, not just for mod collecting but for any sort of collecting you might do.

Myself, I collect a few things; comics (child of the 70's, been reading them my whole life), mods, and timepieces. Now I have some timepieces that are worth in the 10s of thousands. Did I buy them for the resale value...no. I buy them 'cuse I love to collect, and I collect what I love. Period.

It sure is nice when something holds it's value, or in the rare case the value increases, but if you are going into this expecting them to increase...well, get in early and take advantage of it while it lasts. The high end mod reselling market is still in it's early to mid stages. This will more than likely not last forever. The bottom will fall out eventually, and has already in certain segments of the market.

Like this wise poster said before me...if you are looking to invest, look to the stock market :vapor:

When you put it like that, you're right. I have no arguments with you there.

I don't get it. It's not like the chi you won't preform and feel like it did before it was "mass produced." I mean who cares about all this "loss of value"

Buy the mod for its performance and not because its whats in. IMO we're all here trying to get the best vape out there but once it's readily available, people don't want it anymore?

This social status is a bit ridiculous if you ask me.

Do people really feel better when someone comes up to them and say "ohhhh my gosh, you have the chi you?!?!!!!!"

Saw vape rev promoting this obvious chi-you copy, after being kicked out as the chi-you distributor (as a result of selling their own chi you top caps before mojo could release his official ones). After telling customers who asked about chi you that these mods are simply not cool anymore.

and yet Vape Rev is introducing a "similiar" mod to market. i kid you not, no shame whatsoever. they even banned me from commenting about it. to sum it up, a rookie modder "designs" a device that is Chi “inspired”, engraves what appears to be the great lion aslan from narnia, lol, vendor then follows up with a pretentious-VIP party, issues authenticity certs, and there you go, full-blown hype in full effect. weeks later we hear of it's "unicorn" status, flippers line up for miles and dolphins rush mod trader(s) for purchase. that sound about right?

I can't blame vaperev for realizing most people don't think for themselves. It actually really sucks for the people who wanted it for normal reasons, like thinking it looks cool or something to that effect. They'll have to wade through a horde of ...... to try to get one at normal price.

Ha! Yeah that is pretty much what I posted on FB.

BUT.... I don't blame any of them one bit. This (in my opinion) is all about slick marketing to sell a product, and I think they did rather well in that regard.

We should be seeing more really good mechanical devices made in USA ...
E cig sellers and designers know whats hot... and have more insight than the designers/engineers at the China shops that make clones, so you know its going to be as close to the "target" as possible... especially with VRev's cred on the line.

i think the promo is a little over the top... like a lot of Vaperev's super high end look to its home page and blogs... but got to admit their lineup is pretty darn good.

Should be interesting to see what the next generation of vaping devices will be; this thing evolves pretty fast... and gad, too many high end devices can be ridiculous in the long run... i mean for one person to have.

"Inspired by Mojo" is nothing more than fancy words for clone. Can't say this mod is crap because I haven't used one, but for Vaperev to have these is obviously an insult to Mojo for cutting them as a reseller. I find it stupid with the fact that it's a copy of the Chi-you (it even has a logo on it similar to the dragon) and they have to nerve to charge $230 for it. I can understand Mojo selling it for $225 due to his time and money designing the Chi-you and the importing of it. But to have a US vendor claim it's a US made mod and charge $230 for a clone. I think this is the dumbest and greediest thing so far I've seen in this vaping community. If they really wanted to offer something competitive to the Chi-you, they would have offered this at a lower price. Heck, $100-$130 would have made sense. Vaperev can kick rocks with this stunt they are trying to pull.
