Does the plastic needle actually contact the fill valve or is the pressure from the syringe or bottle pushing it in? I tried a 18ga tip with no luck, but did have success using a 20ga tip. I think the 20 did "engage" with the valve.
I understand it is best to fill the device with the valve up. How do I know when it is full?
I've been leery of using the fill valve since I've yet to see anything about repairing or replacing it. I really don't want to damage it then have to jam something in the port to block leaks. That would bug me knowing the device is jury rigged...lol.

Had my Russian torn down for a juice flavor change and re-wick. Took the opportunity to fiddle with the plastic tips attached to a 5ml syringe. Held the base in my hand and tried the green tip (18ga, I believe) but no joy. Then I did get a pink tip (20ga) to work a few times, but it wasn't reliable and I had juice leak around the tip.
Between not being able to consistently get the tip to work (I'm sure it is operator error) and the familiarity with top filling I am going to leave the valve alone until I can get definitive answers.
Are there any videos showing the fill procedure with the plastic tips? That sure would help me understand how this all works.

Only vid I know of is the one pbusardo did on the Russian, about the 16 min point is were he talks about filling it. Seems to be finicky about hiving the right tip for success. I've only got the KFL style so I've never tried that port but filling from the top really is easy. If you do go from the top remember to put your finger over the air hole before you remove the top, I was doing it after and got a few drops leakage with each fill, since I've been putting my finger over the hole before I removed the cap and keeping it there till the cap was back on I haven't got any leaking at all.

Thanks, Nomoreash...... I appreciate the tips. I remember thinking "I'm glad I DIY my juice" after watching all the drops come out the drip tip.....lol ..... I wasn't keeping my finger on the air hole long enough. Just tried what you suggested and what a difference it made.
Going to watch the vid..... again, my thanks.

I fill my 3.1 using the stock tip that comes with Liqua eliquid bottles.

I took that photo to show how the tip seals the hole but i fill it like this:

1.- Put KF with the base looking up then rotate it 45° so the fill hole is looking to the floor
2.- Instert the tip of a bottle sealing the fill hole and rotate 90° to the other side so the liquid moves to the tip of the bottle
3.- Fill until you don't see any more air(i leave a very tiny bubble)
4.- Rotate 90° to the position in step n°2 so to clear the bottle tip from any juice
5.- Remove bottle and keep vaping :p

Question for you puchox...... I've been filling mine using a tapered plastic tip on a syringe. I hold the KF perfectly vertical and fill to the top (guess it's actually the bottom) of the clear ring. Are you able to get more juice in than that with no problems leaking?
I also wanted to clarify about the positioning of the fill hole. I start with it facing the floor @ ~45° then make a 90° so I'm more or less facing the fill hole? I was not sure about that because you mentioned the juice filling the tip of the bottle. I was wanting to turn it 180°.
TIA....
