switch question

so I was strolling down the aisle in Lowe's yesterday and I noticed a doorbell button on clearance for $3....and I said to myself, that's a momentary switch....and I looked at it, and it said "Not to exceed 6 volts".....and I said to myself, a box mod doesn't exceed 6 volts.....so I bought it.....

now I need to figure out, can I use it?.....

Yikes I want it. I was actually looking at doorbell switches and really couldn`t tell how much stuck out the back side. They looked rather big to me in the pictures but couldn`t tell. I was for sure wanting to check them out in the store next time I`m out.
As far as using them. I don`t know but at 3 dollars I`d for sure be sticking that into my box and finding out. Nice find.

Very interested in any thing you find out on this find.

Really, them things come lighted with an led too. great find.

I don't think that one has an LED in it, mine didn't.

That mod would make a Plumber very happy.

So how well does it work? recommend this as a good flat type switch?

My switch was actually a left over. I bought it for the escutcheon itself.
It works OK, but so do the horn button types. I like another one that I got off ebay. Haven't used either yet.

Seems a bit odd as I thought most doorbell transformers output 16V.

The problem is the current handling capability , it will most likely be under 1 amp NO GOOD , you need at a min. 3amps capability.

CHeck it ?

Probably aren't rated for the amps needed and I though Doorbell Trans. put out 12v or more. Probably wouldn't last too long. Imo.
