Ugh, so I wrote this really really really long intro and then something happened and it all went away.

So, I'll just make this short and sweet.

I've tried 2 different brands of e-cigarettes.

One was a Chinese brand that was disposable and the other is Fifty-One brand.
IMO The Fifty-One e cigarette left a lot to be desired. (check it out at smoke51.com if that's not the site then just google Fifty-One e-cig)
I had borrowed 2 of them from my g/f's uncle while I went on a two week road trip. The batteries kept dieing because they're noise sensitive so while I was in the car I couldn't smoke and had to leave the batteries in my pocket, not attached to the digi itself. At a full charge and a new cartridge I would get probably 1-5 good/great vapes. the rest were small, weak clouds. I can't comment on "throat hit" or w/e you guys refer to it as because I don't know what it is. lol. When the Fifty-One did work right it was great. I had no need to smoke an analog.
1 week into the trip BOTH of the digi cigs FAILED! Same time, wtf? I'm guessing it was the atomizer because the light would just flash (like a dead battery, but the batteries were fine) Well I know not to get that brand. I felt bad having to return 2 broken products (at $300 for both kits, yikes!) to her uncle. I tried to find one of their stands in the mall to return it at, but the mall had kicked them out.

Anyways I've been trying to do some research on this MASSIVE forum you guys have.

I want something that produces a lot of vapor, has a decent battery life, is not noise sensitive (lol) and will kick mine and my gf's analog habit!

We've been trying to quit cold turkey, it worked for awhile, but is failing.
We're now at 1 pack a week (although I'm real tempted to go buy a pack right now) from 1 pack a day, each. The patch makes me sick and the gum leaves a slimy nasty ... taste in your mouth. I enjoy smoking, I love exhaling a cloud of smoke, I like the flavors, the tastes. But between the ever increasing cigarette taxes and the idea of what I'm doing to my health is a serious turn off.

I'm guessing the Joye 510 eGo is probably right for us? I'm not sure though. What brands/models would you guys suggest? And what is this throat hit? lol

I had the exact experience as you. I started on the Fifty-One.

It didn't keep me from analogs. It's a terrible product.
It is also ridiculously overpriced and inconvenient.

Get a Joye 510! I quit analogs the day I got mine. It actually works and will give you great vapor and taste.

Get a "manual" style so you can do "direct dripping" without worry about ruining your batttery (the manual battery is enclosed so juice can't drip into it."

If you need more help just give me a pm! I'll be happy to point you in the right direction. I'm not sure if this forum likes me to point you to specific suppliers or give links, so just give me a pm if you have trouble sorting through information.

I would recommend you to try a 801 atty with 4 holes.
(Eastmall.net is selling that product)
That atty has the biggest throat hit and best flavour of all atomizers in my opinion.
I've been using e-cigs for more than a year and I've tried all existing atomizers and about 90% of all e-cigs and e-cig mods.
4 hole version of 801 atty is the king, believe me.
You can use it with a Janty Stick or a Silver Bullet or whatever.

I just started vaping, but I would suggest the Kr-808. The one I have is called the Nebula from vapornine.com. It is awesome! I have the automatic batteries, and they use cartomizers rather than an atomizer and catridge. It is really simple, and I get great vapor, flavor, the batteries are not noise sensitive and they last for about 6 hrs. They start declining after about 4 hrs, but I can still get a decent vape. I am thrilled with this one! Check it out! vapornine.com

Ahh man, I guess I've been looking at pictures of the 510 this whole time instead of the eGo. I don't really like the appearance of the eGo, but
I want the battery life grrr. BTW What is this throat hit you speak of?

Where are some sites I can order the Joye's from? i'm looking at one ecigexpress, are they reliable?

EDIT: EDIT: What are some of you heavy vapors getting out of your battery life on the 510. same goes for you eGo users. I know the site says "5-7 hours" for the eGo but product ratings are always more in 'lab' tests than they are in real enviroments. And I can't find anything on the 510's battery life. If possible I would like to find (or be pointed in the direction) of a kit that includes 2 full e-cigs.

If possible I would like to find (or be pointed in the direction) of a kit that includes 2 full e-cigs.

The joye 510 battery lasts you about half an hour of heavy vaping, which is not a very long time, but the kit comes with two batteries. They only take about 40 minutes to charge.

The solution here is to buy a PCC with your kit. This is where vaping becomes convenient. I am able to go the whole day at work using my PCC. It will charge your battery every time you stick it back in the case. Four full charges worth, but it will last much longer considering you'll be vaping and then sticking it back in to charge every time.

It charges via usb.

Throat hit refers to that "kick" in the back of your throat you normally feel when smoking a Marb Red or a stronger cig of that sort. It's that feeling of thick smoke being inhaled. The joye 510 offers you that same feeling if that's what you want. It has more to do with what liquid you choose though. The higher the nicotine content, the better the throat hit normally.

The vapor production is outstanding on a 510. Mine offers more than a regular cigarette's output. Very satisfying. It's like a cloud of smoke.

Mixing your liquids with VG, (which is essentially glycerin that you can buy from your local pharmacy) will increase the vapor production tremendously! You'll get an enormous cloud of vapor on every hit.

So I recommend a Joye 510 kit, with a PCC. Then 18-24mg nicotine content liquid if you're converting from traditional cigarettes.

That is the biggest problem most of the time is that people buy units that don't work well (FIFTY-ONE) and they don't use a high enough nicotine content liquid.

Eventually you'll want to cut your own liquid too. They sell 54mg-100mg juice that you can cut down with vg or pg and add your own flavoring. This will save you a great deal of money!

After the inital investment of a joye 510 kit, (roughly 40 dollars) a PCC (27 dollars) and some liquid (10-20dollars) you'll break even after the first month or so of not smoking analogs.

I can now vape for as little as 20 bucks a month! That's a far cry from my 70-100 dollar a month analog cigarette cost before!

electronic-ash.com is a great site that I use. fast shipping and great customer service, but there are MANY suppliers out there. try to find one with free shipping on orders over 20 dollars, etc. Shipping costs are pretty high in the vaping world, but there are many suppliers that will cut this for you.

Best of luck dude. You won't regret a 510. It's what most people find to be the ecig that let them quit analogs and set them straight! Down the line you might want a mod or something different, but this unit is solid and will provide you all you need so long as you get a PCC with it.

Here's a link to electronic-ash that has a great price for a 510 manual kit (which is what you'll want to grab up)

Ah, yea I think you need like fifteen posts or something.. haha

VG is Vegetable Glycerin, PG is Propylene Glycol.

You can find VG at Rite Aid or Wal Mart. It's somewhere by the lotions/shampoos and such. It's safe for inhalation as long as it says USP on the bottle, which most do.

VG is thicker than PG and produces more vapor.

just to add my 2 cents...i pretty much concur with every piece of advice that JiveRock gave you...the other recommended e-cigs are no doubt fantastic performers and, truth be known, any of these recommendations that you go with will most likely be 1000% better than what you've experienced up to this point....I also have a JoyeTech 510 and think it would be a great performing starter PV

one little thing, about the 30 minutes of battery life on a JoyeTech 510...that's probably pretty accurate for heavy vaping, but it's really going to come down to what you consider to be 'heavy vaping'

i was a full blown 1 pack/day smoker (marlb. lights), and i can tell you that if i were to vape away full blast on my 510 for 30 minutes (non-stop, or almost non-stop) using say, a 24mg nicotine e-liquid, after about the first 20 minutes i'd be walking (or more accurately, crawling) to the nearest toilet to puke my guts out : ) (the higher level nicotines can really give you one heck of a head rush)....I'm being overly dramatic, but my point is, using a fairly strong e-liquid (in my case about 24mg, or 36mg if i'm feeling really brave), i find that i don't vape out of control....i take a few hits, and put it down....3-4 minutes later i take another few decent hits....after about 10 minutes of repeating that process, i find that i can sit my e-cig down and it might be 30 min. to an hour before i even reach for it again

i would suggest finding some e-liquid sites that sell tiny 5ml or 6ml "sampler" juice bottles (look in the e-liquid reviews section of this site)...pick up an 18mg, 24mg, and 36mg (this one is pretty strong)...they shouldn't run you more than about 4 bucks per bottle....that way you can test and see which one is your "upper limit" for nicotine content..

In my case, i find that my backup battery (on the charger) is usually charged up and ready to go with a green light long, long before i ever get close to draining the battery i'm currently using, so you might be just fine to start off with a joyetech 510 starter kit that contains 2 full e-cigs....

From what I understand the Joyetech Ego will definitely give you longer battery life, and probably a warmer, more intense vapor hit, but it will also cost a little more....you mentioned that you didn't like the looks of it...i didn't either, but when i saw one in person for the first time, i realized they're nowhere near as big as they appear in the pics....they're actually very cool looking

my personal approach was to start with the 510, because i thought it would be nice to have something to "upgrade" to...to look forward to...i'll probably be getting an ego some time in the future, but right now my 510 is doing just fine for me

Go with the darn Ego! They aren't very big, they are really sleek looking, cheaper than the whole PCC route, and if you can knock out a battery in 6 hours my hat's off to you! At 1st the thing never left my hand, and I was getting 10-12 hours on one batt. I promise you won't be sorry, and could always resell it if you don't like it, whereas with a standard 510 not so much so.

I agree with Bob......

You'll be better off with the E-Go and its longer battery life over a standard 510 once you've spent the money on extras like a PCC.

I'd also suggest looking into 510 cartomizers to use on it for ease of use without the hassles of intermittent atomizer flooding or burning tastes that many new users experience when starting out. This way its a two piece design that offers reliability as well as better consistency.

I'd also suggest you pick up the Ego zippered carrying case. Its a perfect holder for device, spare parts, and most importantly JUICE !! rather than keeping loose parts in your pockets or all over your desk.

As much as this is only "my" opinion, I honestly believe that it is a very reliable first starting point for you since you've already had the opportunity to try vaping out already to know that this is something you'd like to do.

VapeOn,
Greg

Agreed, ECF has gotten a wee bit big.

It gets a bit smaller if you start out in the Library and then head over to the Social Groups and check out the ECF Library Annex. Good info in both places, and you'll learn a lot.

As for a good model, I'm sure you'll get tons of advice.
Me, I use the RN4081 atty which is made by Njoy and it's stock battery is the pits but I use NicoSticks (a Mod).

Hey Lazy,

I'm pretty new as well to the world of vaping. My sucky first expensive e-cig kit broke on me like in the first 2 days...sigh. I've been looking like crazy for a day or two on what to buy and it looks like ego or riva is where it's at. The best deal I've found is at Cignot your Midwest Electronic Cigarette store. for the ego anyway. I haven't looked to much into the 510 but the 510 also looks priced well. Like I said tho that's just the best I've found could be a better deal around but I'm crazy for the pink Ego they have. I've never used cignot but I hear they are pretty good. I'm about to order my first Ego in a few days from em.

My suggestion would be either the ego or the 016 both produce excellent amounts of vapor, both are about the same size and both cost about the same anywhere you go and right now most of the sites that are selling the 016 have them on sale right at the moment. My wife uses the 016 and wont use anything else anymore.

Most of the non cig looking PV's are a little intimidating to beginners. In person, they aren't that big. Your first drag off of a nice PV will be a night and day experience compared to what you've had so far. I don't have an Ego, but I put up with small batteries for the first 2 or 3 months of vaping. I've heard nothing but good things about the 510 as well. Heck, get both! You'll probably turn into somewhat of a collector like many of us on here have. Some devices are just better for certain situations IMO. Good luck, and welcome to ECF!

The Riva, eGo, tornado, t-rex, etc..(there are more names I'm sure) are all 510 variants w/ a singular commonality based on the joye510 atomizer.
There are some good prices out there now-- everyone seems to be dropping prices. Even with a clone kit the OP should be stoked, the experience in both vapor production & batt. life should be obvious.

GET THE eGo!

I hate to just repeat what everyone else has said, but as a new vapor I have been very happy with my ego kit. I had all the same concerns when buying as you posted above.

First off if you are concerned about the size, the battery is the exact size and similar weight as a AA Duracell. So you can look at one of those to get a good idea of what you are getting into.

Cignot.com offers two complete egos for $69. They offer free shipping on the kit and its tax free if you are out of state. They also offer regular 510 kits, so you can't go wrong with their products. Feel free to use any supplier but you might want to stick with the ones listed on the forum.

I pretty much use mine constantly and the fully charged pair will last me a whole day. As for nic content I would suggest ordering up a few different strengths to start off. Many say 36mg is too strong, but I have found the 36 is just about right for me. I'm hoping that once I fully make the transition to lower that a bit.

All my buddies at work have been impressed with my egos. One guy ordered himself a kit and I've got another 3-4 looking into it.

To sum it all up I thought there was no way I could quit smoking but now its happening. After 5 days I don't get the enjoyment out of a regular cig I was used to and I really notice that stank aftertaste the analog leaves in my mouth.

Good luck to you
