Switching first from 510 pre-fills to Egos to the Vamo with the AGA-T

So I've been smoke-free for almost two months now, I follow this forum quite a bit, but since I'm a new member here I gotta get past the "five posts" rule to post anywhere else but here. I'm a web-dev/programmer and pretty savvy around search engines 'n'stuff m'kay, so I pretty much found out all there is to find out about vaping, safety, hazards, liquids, mods, attys, cartos, tanks and the like. I have my doubts on true safety of the SS mesh, the silica wick, the cotton (wouldn't try it if my life depended on it, also no hemp for me), I'm pretty skilled now in rebuilding coils, making my own wicks, and like to try out new stuff all the time. I really began vaping a few years back ( about 4-5 yrs ago) and have been vaping on and off whenever I felt like it, although my Smouchi never did cut it. When I got the Ego, it was like something out of a sci-fi movie. The taste, the amount of vapour - really amazing. I did that for a while, then the Egos started acting up, producing shorts and what not. I kept fiddling with the center pin (OF THE BATTERY, YES) and eventually managed to destroy an Ego battery (the pin broke off). Suddenly, I wasn't that impressed with Egos anymore. Luckily, my Vamo was in the mail when this happened along with the AGA-T, two A5 sheets of SS mesh and a mile of kanthal (sampler pack, three different gauge wires). I never quite got the hang of PG, I like the VG better for the cool feeling, less throat hit and general happy feeling throughout. I'm still in the midst of trying to find the ideal wattage for myself, but that's about it learning-curve-wise. Thanks ECF for all the info on the subject, now let's see how fast I can get five posts in ;)

To answer about the wick - I'm using 316 grade 400 SS mesh.
Why so against natural wick materials? I started messing with cotton and hemp after SS after silica. I got a irritated throat and headaches after a couple days of use of SS. I now use hemp twine in everything. Wicks well, durable. Have it in all my EVOD heads and my AGA-T2. Also using a vamo v2.

The silica wicks have a bad name for the possibility of fibers becoming loose and entering the throat and lungs, but I really don't think that's a problem with wicks that are wetted with juice. Anyone have testing that shows silica fibers actually make it up through the mouthpiece? Silica issues are usually with dry material during mining and processing from what I hear. You definitely don't want to dry sand or grind anything containing silica fibers.

I think you're right but, why even chance it when there are options. That's how I look at it. 100% cotton and hemp ,natural and un- impregnated by treatments is relatively safe when burned. It wicks well, not as good as silica but zero dry hits on my gear. Just have to give a new wick a little more time at first. Still have to tip my AGA-T2 but,I had to do that with SS wick too.
