Hi,

I hope I don't sound like a hypochondriac but I seem to be more nervous after a month of vaping. I am not sure if this is a result of quitting smoking or picking up vaping. Oh yeah I quit drinking alcohol about 2 months ago.

Some background. I smoked 1 1/2 packs a day of American Spirit yellow. These are mediums without chemicals that BT uses in their tobacco products.

I have heard that BT uses MAOI's in their cigs but American Spirit is not supposed to have that crap in theirs. So I don't expect that would be an issue.

I just wanted to know if anyone else felt this way and if so did you find a solution.

I don't think I should up my nicotine cause sometime I get a headache. So I try to cut back. I started at 18mg and am now at ~10mg.

I hope this make sense to someone.

I'm not sure what the nic content of any cigarette/pack is but I'd guess that you're just experiencing nicotine withdrawal... not to say that you should up your dose but after a few weeks at your current level you might feel better. I don't know what kind of drinker you were either so alcohol withdrawal is also a possibility. On the other hand maybe it could be too much nicotine! Perhaps you are using a lower mg dose but vaping a lot more than you were getting when you smoked?

I'm no medical expert, these are just my opinions. ;) Congrats on quitting the drink and smokes!

Yes, congrats Yosam!

The problem with nervousness or anxiety is that it is very hard to trace back to the root cause. Quitting smoking and drinking could very well be the cause, but it may be as simple as these two buddies you've had in your life for so long, two of your best friends even, are now gone. You could be nervous without them.

Did you know that gastric bypass patients can experience depression and anxiety after surgery? Some of them grieve for their best friend, food, who is no longer their support. Food was always there for him, now it's not. My brother went through a depression phase. I would have never known about it if I hadn't seen it first hand.

Maybe the looming court and FDA issues and the thought of not obtaining supplies could add to the thoughts. The mind is such a powerful thing!

And, of course, it could be the nicotine dosage (too high or too low). If it gets bad go get it check out by the doc to rule out other possibilities (hypertension, etc.).

Good luck to you!

Laughterhouse,

Thanks for the response. The booze is pretty much passed history. Went through that withdrawal a while ago and haven't had any side effects for quite a while. Just thought I would add it for background.

When I start giving up my vices I know I am going to get some side effects. I am starting to think 10mg is just not enough. I'll try just a bit of some 36mg I have for mixing and see what happens.

You're probably just adjusting to the change in your body/brain chemistry... I won't make presumptions on your alcohol intake, but if it was fairly regular, sudennly stopping can make you a little edgy... and just because AS is all natural, there's still a ton of naturally occurring chemicals in the tobacco that you're no longer putting in your body.

Your body is sensitive to subtle changes in chemistry... You'd be surprised at what can have a noticeable effect.

Shivadance,

Thanks for the support. I will try going up a bit and see what that does. My cigs were my best friend for over 30 years. I could always escape for a few and relax. The one thing I just don't feel like I am getting now vaping. It's probably the other drugs that they put in cigs that I am missing. Damn big tobacco.

I know I used to smoke an analog when I was uptight or nervous and get this AHHHH... feeling. 1 month later vaping and I haven't had that feeling. Do you guys get that?

Yosam

I sometimes do but only off my passthrough! I know exactly what you mean though, I did the same thing - I'm sure most of us did. I was able to switch over from analogs to vaping in a weekend, I got my kit on July 31st and started using it - haven't bought a pack since. I had about 8 or 9 left when I got my kit -those are gone, but I've been able to stave off that "gotta run to the store" need. This is the first product I've been able to use that got me off cigarettes in no time - gum didn't work, the patch irritated my skin, I'm terrible at taking pills and lozenges on a consistent schedule... but if I smoke an analog now I regret it for hours...

Shivadance is right on about the "friends" bit, habits are tough to break. Sometimes I find myself walking/pacing around the house for no real reason and then realize that something I just did normally triggered my cigarette break mode... phone call, great meal, completed task, etc., etc. then I vape a bit and I'm cool. I went from about a pack a day to vaping 8mg juices with little trouble, I smoked lights and ultra lights though. I did have some higher nic carts with my starter kit - I really dug those but I've settled into the 8mg juices pretty well.

Well I dropped 4 drops of 36mg into a cart that needed topping off and I did get that AHH... feeling. Now I need to see how to balance this out. I don't want to go higher but seems I may need to once in a while before I get too whacky.

In truth, since I switched from straight 24mg to 60/40 cut with VG I have been eyeing people's cigarettes with lust.

In the morning I will vape straight 24mg, and once I've had coffee I switch over to my mixture. Sometimes when I'm working at night I will do the same thing.

I don't like the idea that I am so dependent on something like nicotine to "feel calm." It's interesting that when I was smoking, I felt like I was doing something more "natural." Taking a leaf, lighting it on fire, and inhaling the smoke. Vaporizing does not seem natural to me. I am ever more aware of my addiction, and it gives me the creeps sometimes (to which my response is something like "f*@k it, I should just start smoking again."

Don't know about you, but this is definitely my mind set when I've tried to quit in the past. It's interesting that this thought, and these feelings have come up now that I've reduced my nicotine levels.

Even so, and I think most of the physical side effects of quitting smoking are behind me now, this is progress.

A. I'm not smoking
B. I am mainly smoking a mixture (something like 18mg)

I hope that my speculation is correct, and this will inevitably balance out.

I agree that quitting smoking and alcohol in that short time could really change your body chemistry. Even if you don't feel withdrawl from it now, it is still affecting you. Also, I agree that you may want to get to the root cause of what is causing you to be nervous and giving you problems. If you were a heavy drinker/smoker, there was probably an underlying reason that you did those things. I know that there was for me, I quit drinking cold turkey a little over five years ago.

If you need anyone to talk to about private issues, feel free to PM me at any time. I know that not everyone can afford to go to a therapist or is not poor enough to get financial help in the situation. I'm always here to listen and help with anything that anyone needs.

Before I ordered anything, I did a lot searching the forum, and a video about vapping said there's about 1mg of nicotine in an analog. If you are using 1 ml a day of 18mg nic fluid, that should equal about 18 cigs. Maybe that will give you a starting point to compare how much nicotine you're getting now compared to when you smoked.

Today I have done a few things different. I upped my nic level to ~24 and that seems to help. I also tried an analog. Didn't taste as horrible as some have said but bad enough and I didn't get anything out of it more than vaping. I don't know if it was worth it but Oh Well.

Thanks for all the support from the group. Stargoddess if I need someone to talk with I'll PM you. I am lucky to have a good support system. My wife is a great listener and she has been a great help. I'm one of those fortunate guys in that she's my best friend.

So I'll just keep on doing what is in front of me and trying to keep off the analogs and over time things will balance out.

Thanks

Yosam

Where did you read that? I have seen way way higher numbers for how much nicotine is in an analog.

You said you smoked for over 30 years? Well, think about it. It may take your body quite awhile to readjust to itself! I would think the nervousness is due to nicotine. I've been vaping well over a month now, no more analogs and while I don't really get a "nervous" feeling, I do experience the "dropsies"! I drop everything...everywhere.
I would eventually like to stop vaping, so I'm slowly (very slowly) cutting down on the nic in my juice. But I'm expecting to vape at least a year before I try to stop. I too smoked over 30 years and I think it's going to take at least a year or two to get over it and stop 'mourning' my analog friends. But...even though I've only been vaping a short time, I just can't believe how different I feel! Everyday I'm amazed at how I don't cough, I'm less winded and I don't smell bad...food taste great, I'm using much less salt. What I'm trying to say is..stick with it. I really think the jitters will calm themselves eventually..just think about how much better you feel!
