I've been vaping for close to a month now. First week cut my smoking in half. Then I was back to my old ways. Not giving up I thought try smoking American Spirits for week and then give it another go. I don't know much about the brand, how much less chemicals but the carton is gone. I was nervous about quitting this time but it hasn't been nearly as hard as my first week when I was smoking. I'm wondering if this is psychological or if American spiritbrand helped me. I do know that I went through that carton alot quicker like I had to smoke more. I'm. Wondering if anyone else has tried this approach or if its good advice to give someone just because it worked for me. If I know others were able to quit using spirits first then I know there's something to it. And lastly, what day is the crappy battle feeling going to taper off at? ecig definitely helps but I'm wondering when/if I'll start to feel normal without nicotine.

I agree with Nightseer. Sounds like you need higher nic for now. That edginess is a sign of physical withdrawal, and you should be able to curb that with your PV.

You'll still have to deal with other aspects of the analog habit, and this strategy by itself won't reduce your dependency on nicotine, but there's no reason you should be having that testy, un-clear-headed feeling if you're vaping as much nic as you were smoking.

What level of nic are you vaping?

Today is my first day off analogs and my first day on the PV. I was a pack a day camel smoker for about 15 years, and I went with 16mg. Seems to be doing the trick for me.

Awesome benman....keep us posted on your progress. If you relapse a little at first, don't beat yourself up. It happens! In the event of a relapse, try a tad higher nic content. If you get an anxiety type feeling, use higher nic juice until it goes away then lower yourself down.

+1 higher nic juice.

I was down to 3-4 analogs a day before I switched completely over to vaping. What helped me was a drop of 36mg on my atty at those times when I would have smoked an analog. I was vaping 24mg at the time so if your normal nic level is 16-18mg, you might want to try a drop of 24mg. After a week or two, I didn't need the higher nic anymore but it worked great at giving me a running start.

Side note about American Spirit and other similar cigarettes: I did a lot of that, maybe 10 years ago. I purchased cigarettes with less chemicals, and even bought special tobacco and rolled my own. I can absolutely attest to the fact that I have an addiction to more than just the nicotine in cigarettes. I found that I would smoke more because I wasn't getting all that I "needed" out of a cigarette.

Vaping has given me almost 2 weeks away from cigarettes though. I vape more than I smoked - almost non-stop. I still feel the withdrawal symptoms, but it is so much easier. I'm playing with nic levels. I started out at 18mg, tried a few puffs of 36mg . . . uh, whoah! . . . and a little 24mg. 18 is good for me, 24 is too much, so I'm mixing a 20 right now for those "harder" times. I fear that I may sound discouraging, but it can take some people a while to get around the "crappy battle feeling". I come from a long line of people with addictive personalities, so I'm gearing for the long haul.

Do some reading on what happens to brain chemistry and general stop smoking information too. It can help you understand what is happening while you are going through it. A lot of people here have said it "just happened" even when they weren't trying to quit. Keep reading posts here at ECF and you will see different styles and transitions. It's a personal thing for everybody, and you'll find your own special way.

Strangely I have been looking for american spirit before i found e cig, but i couldn't remember the brand. I know what the package looks like from magazine but never found it on the shelf behind the clerk. Wonder if they hid them behind the major brands.. hmm.

Im using 24mg mostly, have alot of 36mg on hand. I still smoke 1 analog every 2 days or so. This morning lit one up because the 36mg couldn't make the cravings go away. Only had 3 puffs and felt nausea and dizzy. I wasn't plan on quitting but I guess I've been vaping too much. hehe

This is day 3 smoke free. I'm feeling allot better then I did on day one. I started this thread because I feel the transition from cigs to pv was allot more manageable this time around. I think the american spirits gave me the right stepping stone down to pv use vs regular cigs to pv and I still was smoking. Any rate this is all uncharted territory for me. I've never been smoke free for this long before. So far I'm feeling positive about being able to stay clean. The cravings are manageable if I don't let my guard down by starting to rationalize why its ok to buy just one pack of smokes or maybe some snus (never tried it) for just in case. I'm not hunkered in fetal position or ripping heads off for no rhym or reason. Some things I have noticed so far, I'm drinking loads of coffee breaking world records over here. Trying to keep up on water to stay hydrated as well. I'm a bit zombie like sluggish here and there wich is fine. I'm just trying to stay positive. Like today I saw a commercial for snow boarding. That would be fun. I'm starting to think about what I want my future to be like smoke free. This is my second chance. Just got to see it through. In general terms, when is the worst of it over, downhill?

Buddy your on the downhill side right now. It just doesn't seem like it yet. My advice, stock up on gear, and juices so you don't have that to worry about. If you can afford it, buy another well liked pv as well. One day at a time man. It's nothing! You still basically get to smoke, but are getting over an old habit. It doesn't come for free, and you'll have to plow through another couple of weeks, then smoke won't even smell all that great. Just don't give up dude!
