I know a lot of people say there was no change, and a lot of people say there are tons of changes. It is important to note that some treated cigarettes have been found to contain at least 50 addictive chemicals and hundreds of toxic chemicals, so a heavy smoker has a high toxicity level, and may experience extreme withdrawal symptoms.

With that being said I smoked 2 PAD since I was in high school (started in middle school), so I probably had more pronounced symptoms then others since my body developed while having tobacco constantly in my system, so my body saw it as a necessary part of the bodies system. Here's what happened to me when I quit

Side effects
-Coughing up phlegm for the first week
-Dry skin and itchiness for 2 weeks
-Acne which appeared after a week and lasted about 1.5 weeks
-Dehydration (just drink plenty of water)
-Sinuses cleared up (best sense of smell I've ever experienced)
-after 2 weeks lung function greatly increased
-Extreme energy boost
-Insomnia (average 3hrs sleep a night for 2 weeks, but not tired)
-Weight loss (just wasn't as hungry, most people experience the opposite)
-Attitude actual improved

Luckily all the bad symptoms passed and the good ones got better with time, I couldn't be more pleased.

I know this is an old(ish) thread but I thought I would add my experiance to the list

I smoked a PAD for over 10 yrs (small break in the middle) before I switched and there were a few that surprised me.

Constant thirst (I panicked a little at first as I have diabetis running in the family, once checked and more reading on here I understood why and ensured I kept hydrated)
Coughing - this only lasted a week and at first was worse than the smokers cough, after that I was fine
Heavy head cold - could have just been a coincidence
Insomnia - I suffered before but not too bad but for about 2 months it was really bad, this then cleared up and in the last 6 months I have only had 2 bouts, each lasting only a few nights, best I've ever been.
Full of energy - it's amazing when your lungs aren't clogged up how energised you feel
Improved self confidence - as a smoker I always hid away and avoided others, now I'm out there and proud and generally more confident.
Tastebuds - Mine went on a shut down about a fortnight in but when they cleared, OMG everything was so full and rich, good for nice smells but then I went through the house cleaning, there was so much I had never noticed before that had to be eradicated!

So there you have it.
