I think it's a good idea, more likely to minimize thermal runaway if you ask me.

If it blows up, well you can replace frozen broccoli and it's in a contained space. That may or may not stay shut.

But, I'm far from a battery goddess so don't take my word for it that was my more commonsense notion than the neighbor... I think.

You could try giving it to a place that recycles batteries and let them know it's still active. They might accept it.

Then again it's been awhile. I'm sort of doubtful it will explode at this point. Sort of. You never know.

Can you shove it in a closet some out of the way place where if it vents, it can at least be sort of contained? IDK, I think eventually the green light is going to go out and you will be happy.

Again, I'm not battery guru but it seems to me if it was going to go into thermal runaway it might have done so already.
