I think it's a good idea, more likely to minimize thermal runaway if you ask me.

If it blows up, well you can replace frozen broccoli and it's in a contained space. That may or may not stay shut.

But, I'm far from a battery goddess so don't take my word for it that was my more commonsense notion than the neighbor... I think.

It's very frustrating at the moment as the only place I can put it is in the shade in the driveway in our backyard because any where else is going to cause huge problems if something happens. I want to get rid of it but don't know my options too well

You could try giving it to a place that recycles batteries and let them know it's still active. They might accept it.

Then again it's been awhile. I'm sort of doubtful it will explode at this point. Sort of. You never know.

Can you shove it in a closet some out of the way place where if it vents, it can at least be sort of contained? IDK, I think eventually the green light is going to go out and you will be happy.

Again, I'm not battery guru but it seems to me if it was going to go into thermal runaway it might have done so already.

I'd probably take it to the range and use it for target practice...
