I Have had a tiafun for about six months and had just got a new seal set and tank. All was looking good for a great build session when I found, of the two coil retaining screws the longest will not screw up and its not cross treaded because its got about 5mm till it bottoms. shorter screw has no problem. If anyone has the answer I would be eternally grateful. Also does the bottom block come apart if so I could see whats happening.
Are you saying it doesn't seem to go in far enough ? The base is pressed together, it can be separated but it's not meant to be user serviceable.
Here is what I think you may have going on.
The brass disc has turned not allowing the positive screw to line up with the hole. Don't remove the 510 screw.
Here's what to do, pull out the sleeve that the positive post screw goes into so you can see when it is lined up. By turning the 510 screw you can get the disc to turn. When you get it line up insert the positive screw temporarily and tighten the 510 to hold the disc in place. Then remove the positive screw, insert sleeve and positive screw.
Check to make sure it's not shorted before yo go any farther with it.
If the silicone insulator is not in place between deck and brass disc it will short, see picture, opposite side from screwdriver.
You may have to use something like a tooth pick down in the screw's hole to get the insulator in place as well.
Note: for anyone wandering this is the early FT type "A" with the brass deck. They stopped using them pretty quickly.
