Haven't been back to this thread in a long while....but thought I'd jump in here about working with polymer clay.....if upu can use a hot glue gun....tear little strips of the aluminum foil and secure to the wires with hot glue...it won't burn at the temps that polymer bakes at. Haven't gone back far enough to look at the pics....but I read mention of some ears.....metal mesh is available at most craft stores....cut pieces to the shape....and a smaller size than you want you finished product...cover with the foil and hot glue....thin layer....and put your clay over the top.

About tools....dental tools...like the hygienist uses to scrape and clean your teeth are excellent and are much smaller than any commercial sculpting tools. You may even have a dentist who is willing to give you old tools. I also used tools for ceramics that I took a grinding stone and my dremel to....to make tools that were to my preference.

going back in posts to find your pics....if you think I can be of any help....just let me know

edit: the fingers in all my pieces had a wire armature running through them....it just takes slow, careful moving of the clay with a small smooth tool....instead of a sandwich of clay...just roll a single piece around the wire....carefully smooth seam shut...and work excess clay to the end, where you can cut it off and then seal the tiny opening left by the wire

Enjoyed reading this thread and hope you do not mind my posting some of my crafts. I have not really done a lot of knitting since I started vaping because I'm always on ecf. heehee But here are some of the little booties I knit when someone is having a baby.

And one more of a few bowls/vases.

Those are beautiful!!!
I wonder if it'd be possible to add maybe a stopper, oring cap and turn them into vessels for eliquids?
I have several juices right now that I hate the bottles they come in and these would be so much nicer. I also wouldn't have to constantly be hiding them. They really are lovely.

Uh oh. I sense another addiction coming on.

They are absolutely gorgeous, aren't they? However.....clay on it's own is really not food grade, so I wouldn't put eliquid in it.
BUT....
If you took a glass jar, stopped the top with foil for the baking process and covered it with clay.....you very well use a cork or lid to do exactly that!

Yeah . . . see . . . that's kind of the problem -- to say I'm not good with my hands is a gross understatement. Smoothing the clay is beyond my ability. No matter what I use, I end up with ridges and/or gouges.

I can roll things out flat (rolling pin with a spacer on each side to regulate height/thickness), I can make sausages (flexible plastic used in the same way as rolling cigarettes), and I can cut shapes (but even with a template, the edges are uneven).

Everything else I try to do is a gob job.

I can encase a wire in clay by rolling, but when I try to bend it to shape, the wire breaks through.

But here are some of the little booties I knit when someone is having a baby.

Those are precious!

I learned to knit on a loom during phys. rehab to get my fingers working again. This is probably the best I've done in the last few years:

It's 4 1/2 feet tall by 3 feet wide. There are wood slats in the edges, and they're hinged at the top so it folds and stores in a 6 inch tube (when I bother to put it away).

you have to bend the wires into the final shape you want them before putting the clay on. The clay gets soft and easy to move when it's warm, so use gentle touches with your fingers to soften and move the clay. Body heat does wonders in helping to work the clay...and little pats will help to get it smooth and where you want it. Dang....wish you lived down the street from me...even with how wretched my hands are now....I could show you how easy it really is..

I miss people posting on here so I thought I would put a couple of the sweatshirts I painted for my mom. She use to love wearing them. Not because the were that great, but because I did them. Not a day goes by that I don't miss her. It's funny how a dogwood, cardinal or a leopard makes me think of her. What wonderful memories these have brought me tonight. My knitting pictures look better than these but I was trying to get people to start posting again because I enjoyed looking as what people made. Hope it works......
